• Convicts and colonials

    March 15, 2023 in Australia

Did another free tour. This one on the convicts and colonials who shaped Perths founding. Again very interesting, slightly more what I am interested in than yesterday so that was nice.

It is fascinating how much Perth is covered in history. It feels like almost every road has a date or a plaque on it and has some historical building nestled between skyscrapers. Art is almost everywhere here aswell. Everything from stylised graffiti to sculptures. According to our guide. With every new building in perth, 1% of the total cost has to be put into some art project for the city. From a view point you can see 3 or 4 skyscrapers currently being built so the overall amount given to art must be high. And it shows. The streets are beautiful.

I am not a massive fan of modern architecture but the way it had enveloped and shaped around the historical buildings is something I can definitely get behind.
