    A boys dream

    July 18, 2024 in Egypt ⋅ 🌙 33 °C

Landed late last night in Cairo for an extended work n leisure weekend. First time in Egypt n the first time to see the gigantic pyramids n the mighty Nile river. Places I have dreamt of visiting since I was a boy. The pyramids of Giza literally touch the city but on the western side they merge with the dessert. Once i left the cheops pyramid behind I was almost by myself. Called family to share this experience. After a short rest I ventured to the Nile for dinner - another majestic place. What a day!Read more

  • Pyramids, obelisks and hieroglyphs

    Jul 19–22, 2024 in Egypt ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

What a privilege to do my morning run around those wonders of the world. The only ones really which are still in good order. I did a beautiful 9km loop around the 9 pyramids, mostly in peaceful solitude. Found the sphinx which I missed yesterday. I found out that he pyramids go by their Egyptian names khufu khafre n menkaure while we learnt their Greek names in school. The new grand Egyptian museum is still in soft opening mode. Lucky I could make it. It will be a truly amazing museum. Followed by beautiful vegetarian moussaka.Read more

  • The Egyptian bug

    July 19, 2024 in Egypt ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

I finally get to finish my trip log. Was weary to do it because it was such an ordeal. Fell sick badly the last night with fever n diarrhea n slept most of the next day until I had to check out at 3pm. At the airport I find out that my flight is delayed by 4 hrs. I shiver n sleep on and off until boarding. Arriving at tabuk I find no driver waiting for me. When bad luck strikes .... finally in bed at 3.30am. Hence I have not taken a single pic on that dayRead more

  • Walking the city

    July 20, 2024 in Egypt ⋅ ☀️ 38 °C

Today I left the hotel with the intention to explore the city. First stop was the old national Egyptian museum and I decided to reach it by metro. The green line was just opened 2 months ago and works nicely. Unlike the museum which looks as old as the pyramids. But the objects are just mind-blowing. From tut ench amun to the oldest statue in Egypt its all there.

I then walked all the way to al azhira Park passing the suk and al suleiman and al alzhira mosque. Made friends with a local and we had mint tea n with a lot of kids taking pics. Another beautiful day in Cairo
