Aomori before the festival

Comme pour Hirosaki, petit tour de la ville d'Aomori avant d'assister au Nebuta Matsuri.

C'était une journée bien remplie, j'ai pu faire pas mal d'activités avant le festival.

J'ai d'abord pris le bus pour aller explorer un site historique de la période Jōmon. Le Jōmon est l'Ere historique la plus ancienne du Japon (-13 000 à -400 av JC), dont plusieurs sites ont été trouvés dans le Tohoku. Pour être franc, je n'ai pas été emballé par le musée, par contre le village situé en extérieur est très sympa à faire.

On dirait un peu le village gaulois dans Astérix, vous ne trouvez pas ? 😁

Pour déjeuner, je suis allé dans un marché au poisson avec un concept génial: le "Nokkedon". À l'entrée, on achète plusieurs coupons, le 1er coupon s'échange à un comptoir contre un plateau et un bol à moitié rempli de riz. À partir de là, on est libre d'explorer tout le marché à la recherche d'ingrédients pour garnir le bol. Chaque ingrédient s'échange contre des coupons. La qualité des produits est élevée, et on a le plaisir de voir de très près ce qu'on va manger et de personnaliser à l'envie. On peut même négocier un peu 🤫

Après cette pause, j'ai longé la baie d'Aomori. La préfecture d'Aomori est réputée pour ses pommes, avec notemment les villes Aomori et Hirosaki en tête. Le jus de pomme est délicieux, et on trouve aussi la pomme sous toutes les formes : glaces, tartes, gâteaux, jus, smoothies, etc ...

Sur la baie se trouve l'Office de tourisme de la préfecture d'Aomori. En fait, il s'agit d'une très grande tour qui fait bien plus que cela. On y trouve des boutiques, des bureaux administratifs, des associations, mais surtout un cinéma à 360° qui projette des films sur la préfecture, ainsi qu'un observatoire.

Toujours sur la baie, j'ai visité un ferry. Ou plutôt... un musée...dans un ferry.
Bon, en fait c'est plus qu'un simple ferry. Il s'agit d'un des ferries qui faisaient le voyage entre le Tohoku (nord de l'île Honshu) et l'ile d'Hokkaido (au Nord du Japon). Depuis l'ouverture du tunnel Seikan en 1988, ce ferry n'est plus en service, et a été transformé en musée. On peut en visiter la quasi-totalité.
Mais le plus surprenant, c'est la salle des véhicules.
Car ce ferry transportait aussi... des trains !! 😱
Avec les photos je pense que vous pouvez imaginer l'envergure du bateau.

Pour finir la journée, je suis allé tout comme à Hirosaki dans le musée dédié au Nebuta Matsuri.

Dans ce festival, d'immenses chars défilent, sur lesquels des structures faites de bois et de papier sont transportés. Ce sont les Nebuta. Des lampes sont disposés à l'intérieur pour faire ressortir les motifs. Mais contrairement à Hirosaki où il s'agit d'éventails "plats", au Nebuta ce sont plutôt des scènes en 3D avec des personnages et créatures.

Dans le musée, les Nebuta des années précédentes sont exposés, et des explications permettent de comprendre la signification de chacun. C'était très intéressant de voir les précédentes Nebuta, et d'observer les chariots de très près.

Ce festival s'annonce lui aussi génial, mais ça, ce sera dans un post dédié !

As for Hirosaki, a short tour of the city of Aomori before seeing the Nebuta Matsuri.

It was a busy day, I did a lot of things before the festival.

I first went by bus to an historical site about the Jōmon period. The Jōmon is Japan's oldest historical Era (-13,000 to -400 B.C), of which several sites have been found in Tohoku. To be honest, I wasn't thrilled by the museum part, however the village outside is very interesting to do.

The village make me thinks of Asterix (the French comic book) 😁

For lunch, I went to a fish market with a nice concept: the "Nokkedon". At the entrance, you buy several coupons, the 1st one is exchanged at a counter for a tray and a bowl half filled with rice. Then you are free to explore the whole market to find ingredients to complete the bowl. Each ingredient is traded for coupons. The quality of the products is high, besides you can see up close what you're going to eat and choose according to your preferences. You can even bargain a little 🤫

After this break, I walked along the Aomori Bay. Aomori prefecture is famous for its apples, mainly from the cities of Aomori and Hirosaki. The apple juice is delicious, and you can find apple in various shapes: ice creams, pies, cakes, juices, smoothies, etc ...

On the bay, there is the Aomori Prefecture Tourist Office. In fact, it is a very big tower which does much more than that. Inside, you can find stores, administrative offices, associations, but also a 360° cinema which shows movies about the prefecture, and an observatory.

Still on the bay, I visited a ferry. Or rather... a museum... in a ferry.
Well, actually it's more than just a ferry. It is one of the ferries that used to travel between Tohoku (north of Honshu island) and Hokkaido island (north of Japan). Since the opening of the Seikan tunnel in 1988, this ferry is no longer in service, so it has been transformed into a museum. You can visit it almost entirely.
But the most impressive is the vehicle room.
You see, this ferry used to carry... trains !!! 😱
By seeing the pictures I think you will be able to grasp the size of this ship.

I then did like in Hirosaki: a visit to the museum dedicated to the Nebuta Matsuri.

In this festival, huge floats are carried, on which structures made of wood and paper are displayed. These are the Nebuta. Lamps are placed inside to make the drawings stand out. But unlike in Hirosaki Matsuri where the Neputa are "flat" floats, Nebuta are more like 3D scenes with characters and creatures.

In the museum, Nebuta from previous years are displayed, and explanations are given to understand the meaning of each scene. It was very interesting to see the previous Nebuta, and to observe them from up close.

The festival is going to be great, but that will be in a dedicated post !

もちろん、ねぶた祭り見るために青森に行った。でも、青森は結構面白い町だよね。

りんごが好きだったら、あそこに旅行したほうがいいと思う。青森のりんごは人気だから。りんごのお土産が沢山！本当にいっぱいある。

それだけじゃない、もっと楽しいことがある。例えば…のっけ丼。のっけ丼はすっごく美味しかったよ。😸

そして、フェリーに行った。普通のフェリーじゃない、博物館だ！この中には…電車！
そう、前はそのフェリーは電車を運べたんだ！
デカい船だよー😱

最後は「ねぶたの家ワ・ラッセ」に行った。ねぶた祭りの博物館だ。コロナ前のねぶた祭りのねぶたを見た。
面白かった。😌
