Today we enjoyed two cool activities at the Kualoa Ranch - zip wiring and a small ocean voyage. If you wonder while looking at the picture: "I know those places"!? You might be right as many movies have been produced here. Let's see how many you can identify?🫠

Heute haben wir zwei tolle Aktivitäten auf der Kualoa Ranch gemacht- Zipline und eine Bootstour entlang der Küste. Around Oahu

Touring around Oahu was the aim and we drove along the east coast up north - passing by Diamond Head again, Halona Blowhole, Valley of the temples, shrimps in Takana. Waimea Valley and up to Haleiwa for some shaved ice😋 and down to Honolulu we stopped by the Dole pinapple farm. Long day but we could see many amazing spots. Also saw a turtle at the beach but we couldn't stop🥴.

Entlang der Ostküste von Oahu ging es nach Norden - vorbei am Diamond Head, Halona Blowholes, dem Tal der Tempel, Shrimps in Takana weiter zum Waimea Tal inkl. Wasserfall bis nach Haleiwa wo es das erste Shived Ice gab 😋. Auf dem Weg zurück noch bei der Dole Ananas Plantage angehalten bevor es wieder nach Honolulu ging. Die Schildkröte am Strand konnte ich leider nicht fotografieren, da wir nicht anhalten konnten 🥴.Lue lisää

Yesterday and today we were exploring different sites in Honolulu like Pearl Harbor, the Iolani Palace, Diamond Head Crater and again Waikiki Beach for our first swim - by the way: water temperature is 27 degrees celsius 😎.

Aloha and here we are on Hawaii in the bustling city of Honolulu. From here we will explore the island. First thing today: Waikiki Beach.

Aloha und wir sind auf Hawaii. Unser erster Stop hier ist in Honolulu. Von hier aus werden wir die Insel erkunden. Erster Stop: Waikiki Beach. Ich habe aber auch noch ein paar Bilder vom Flug dazugeben und Dank der Datumsgrenze war ich in den letzten 10 Stunden an zwei Orten. This is our last day in Nelson and New Zealand. Tomorrow we are heading to the airport to reach our next destination - Hawaii. Can't put it in words how it was - so many nice people and places. So I put in this footprint my favorite places of Nelson.

Last full weekend in New Zealand- crazy how time is passing by. Once more we headed north on the South Island. As we "did" Abel Tasman NP already, we spent time around Takaka. We were exploring some caves, lookouts, springs, rock labyrinth and beaches. Again another beautiful day in New Zealand with a very special local tour guide - see video 😁.

Das letzte vollständige Wochenende in Neuseeland. Daher sind wir heute am Abel Tasman N.P vorbeigefahren, haben den ja "schon" gesehen und haben die Gegend um den Takaka ä uns angeschaut. Unter anderem waren wir in einer Höhle, Aussichtspunkten, Quarstquellen, Felsenlabyrinth und am Strand. Ein weiterer toller Tag in Neuseeland, auch dank einem besonderen Tour Guide😁.Lue lisää

Kaikoura seals - closing our loop

Today we are closing our loop of our South Island Tour. Close to 3500km it took us to travel once around. One last highlight we safed for last - two beautiful seal spots at and close to Kaikoura.

Christchurch Day 2 - Street Art

Walking through Christchurch feels quite different compared to 22 resp 20 years ago. "Many" damages of the earthquake are still not fixed and those who are fixed, are looking different. But what I really like is the omnipresent street art.

Der Spaziergang durch Christchurch hat verschiedene Eindrücke hinterlassen. Viele Schäden konnten bis jetzt noch nicht behoben werden. Da wo man es gemacht hat, ging leider viel alter Charme verloren, den ich in Erinnerung hatte. Aber 22 bzw 20 Jahre ist eine lange Zeit. Beeindruckend ist aber die Street Art, die überall zu finden ist.Lue lisää

The day didn't started too bad with some clouds and sun. Unfortunately the day turned into grey with rain and wind. But after two weeks we got used to it. Nevertheless it would have been nice to see something at/from the gondola summit station😟. But the cafe up there is good! And here you can get a professionell 360° view:

Der Tag startete ganz okay - Wolken und Sonne im Wechsel. Leider hielt das nicht an und wir hatten gegen Mittag wieder Regen, Wind und grau. Sind wir ja eigentlich schon gewöhnt aber auf der Bergstation wäre etwas Sicht schon toll gewesen 😟. From Otago to more mountain feeling

Instead of going straight to Christchurch, we took the road to Mt. Cook. What a perfect decision as the sun was bright and yellow and Mt Cook without any cloudes 😀. Everything else will be told by the pictures.

Anstatt den direkten Weg nach Christchurch zu nehmen, haben wir uns zum Glück dafür entschieden noch einmal Richtung Berge zu fahren. Die perfekte Entscheidung! Die Sonne war sehr gnädig und Mt Cook war wolkenlos 😀. Den Rest erzählen die Bilder.Lue lisää

Catlins to Otago

Heading north from now on. We passed through the Catlins with lookouts and waterfalls (again 😉) and reached in the end Portobello on the Otago Penisula. By the way, throughout our time in New Zealand we visited Bethlehem, Berlins , Niagara Falls and now Portobello. All the world in one country 😁.

Ab nun geht es wieder gen Norden. Einmal durch die kompletten Catlins mit Lookouts und Wasserfällen (ja, immer noch😉). Unser Ziel Portobello auf der Otago Halbinsel. Wenn wir gerade davon sprechen: wer durch Neuseeland reist, kann auch Bethlehem, Berlins, die Niagara Fälle und ein wenig Italien mitnehmen. All in one sozusagen 😁.Lue lisää

To the Catlins

From the Fiordland we took the Southern Scenic Route via Bluff into the Catlins. The weather is like it needs to be here - windy and patches of rain. All over this rural part of New Zealand is beautiful. You can see sea lions, seals and if you get really lucky pingiuns or dolphins. And all those forests, stunning creeks and waterfalls are just a few steps away.

Nach dem Fjordland ging es über die Southern Scenic Route inkl Bluff in die Catlins. Die wenigen Touristen die es hierher schaffen, bekommen neben typischen Wind-Regen-Sonne Mix, Seelöwen, Seehunde und mit sehr viel Glück Pinguine oder Delfine zu sehen. Und in den Wäldern warten zauberhafte Wasserfälle und Bäche.Lue lisää

Milford Sound- Pure NZ

Another day with pure NZ feeling. Visiting the Milford Sound with rain and even snow. Yesterday the pass was closed but today they opened it for 6 hours and our cruise took place as planned. Even if the views were limited the atmosphere is breath taking. On the way back we stopped by by some usual subjects - waterfalls and lookouts.

Wieder konnten wir echtes Neuseeland "einatmen". Im Milford Sound ging es auf eine kleine Cruise Tour. Gestern war der Pass noch gesperrt aber heute konnten wir in unserem 6 Stundenfenster dort hinfahren - durch Regen und Schnee.
Auch wenn durch den Regen die Sicht eingeschränkt war, hat das der Stimmung keinen Abbruch gegeben. Auf dem Rückweg nahmen wir mal wieder Lookouts und Wasserfälle mit.Lue lisää

Southern West Coast to Wanaka

We are progressing further south - passing by gorgous lookouts, alpine views and beach experiences. Even if there are term school holidays, we seem to be alone on the road. On a stretch of 100km plus only 28 cars passed us by. Anyway, the landscape changes quickly and behind every corner there might be something different. In the end we arrived in Wanaka.

Und wir bewegen uns weiter Richtung Süden. Heutiges Ziel ist Wanaka und auf dem Weg gab es hinter jeden Kurve etwas zu entdecken. Der Verkehr ist unglaublich dünn. Wir zählten auf 100km plus, sage und schreibe 28 entgegenkommende Autos. Aber so kann man auch mal eben besser anhalten und Strände, Seen, Berge und mehr zu sehen.Lue lisää

Visiting the glasier today with two three little gentle walks - lookout, Sentinel Rock and Peters Pool. Even if we would like to have a little bit less rain during our free days; all waterfalls are just amazing. What shocked me is how much the glacier has reduced in the last 20 years 😟😧😥!

Obwohl das Wetter es nicht wirklich nett mit uns meint (immer wenn wir einen freien Tag haben, regnet es und wenn wir weiterfahren ist es schön) sind wir zum Franz Josef Gletscher gefahren. Dort angekommen, haben wir zwei drei kleine "Wanderungen" unternommen- Aussichtspunkt, Sentinel Rock und Peters Pool. Traurig ist es zu sehen, wie weit der Gletscher in den letzten 20 Jahren zurückgegangen ist 😟😥😧Lue lisää

"Detour" trip to Franz Josef

Do you remember all that rain from yesterday? It caught us with delay and bad surprise. Between us and our first stop was a major slip. So, instead of driving only 10km to our hike and later walk around Punakaiki, we were forced to drive 230km or in other words 3hrs instead of 10min🥴🥴🥴.
Nevertheless, we did it and we enjoyed Pancakes at the Pancake Rocks and I ticked a hike from my buket list and it was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Erinnert ihr euch noch an meinen Kommentar bzgl dem Regen? Ja, der hat heute nochmals nachgewirkt und uns die Straße versperrt - Erdrutsch. Daher wurden aus 10km zu unserem ersten Halt satte 230km oder einfach gesagt 3 Stunden statt 10 Minuten 🥴🥴🥴. Egal, wir hatten tolle Ideen für den Tag und die wollten wir umsetzen - Pancakes, Pancake Rocks und eine Wanderung die ich schon dreimal NICHT gemacht hatte und nun doch und die war ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.Lue lisää

Storm & Punakaiki Pancake Rocks

What a day today. It stormed the complete night (100 to 130 km/h) plus heavy rainfall until this evening. In between we couldn't even see the sea anymore. Finally the rain stopped at 4:30pm. So we took the chance to visit the pancake rocks in Punakaiki.

Was für ein Sturm in den letzten 16 Stunden. Die ganze Nacht und bis in den späten Nachmittag hat es gestürmt und geschüttet. Zum Teil konnten wir das Meer nicht mehr sehen. Am Ende haben wir ein kurzes Zeitfenster genutzt und sind zu den Pancake Rocks gefahren. Hat sich gelohnt und der Sonnenuntergang von der Veranda war auch richtig schön.Lue lisää

West Coast

Here we go again. After three weeks of school resp freetime in Nelson, we are using the term break to explore the South Island. We drive anti-clock vise and managed by good weather to arrive at Fox River. On the way we bought the best pies in New Zealand, enjoyed Buller Gorge, seals and a waterfall at a beach.

Und wieder auf der Straße. Nach drei Wochen Schule bzw Freizeit, nutzen wir die Ferien für unsere Südinsel Tour. Gegen den Uhrzeigersinn fahren wir die Insel ab. Heutiges Ziel, Unterkunft bei Fox River noch guten Wetter erreicht. Davor noch die besten Pies NZ gekauft, Buller Gorge genossen, Seehunde gesehen und am Ende einen Strand für uns gehabt, auf welchem ein Wasserfall fällt. Alles der Wahnsinn und der Blick von der Veranda ist super.Lue lisää

A glimpse of the Abel Tasman N.P

Just an hour drive away from Nelson you can find the Abel Tasman National Park. A paradise for hikers, sea kayakers and swimmers. Last one more likely in a month or so. We just touched the most southern part but again - stunning.

Nur eine Stunde entfernt von Nelson ist der Abel Tasman National Park. Ein wahres Paradies für Wanderer, Paddler und Schwimmer. Wobei ich letzteres frühestens in einem Monat machen würde. Wir sind wirklich nur in den untersten Zipfel gefahren aber es war mal wieder wunderschön.Lue lisää

Ferry ride - farewell and welcome

Early start - again. Today we started at 6am to catch our ferry from Wellington to Picton. The ride was easy and smooth as the wind dropped - luckily. In Picton I saw my old hostel in which I planned my first long multi-day hike 22 years ago. Nice that some things remain as they are👍. With a local bus we went further to Nelson where we stay the next weeks - so don't be surprised if there are no continous footprints in the next day(s).😉.

Mal wieder früh raus. Heute um 06:00 um die Fähre nach Picton zu bekommen. Die Fahrt war einfach super und ohne große Wellen und Schaukelei - zum Glück hatten Wind und Regen nachgelassen. In Picton gibt es immer noch das Hostel von vor 22 Jahren in welchem ich meine erste Mehrtages-Wanderung geplant hatte - cool 👍! Mit dem Bus ging es dann nach Nelson. Hier sind wir erst einmal ein paar Wochen. Daher nicht wundern, wenn die Footprints "nachlassen". Es geht aber noch weiter 😉.Lue lisää
