Enrichment boxes and Drowned rats

The morning started with preparing enrichment boxes for the orangutans....cardboard boxes with leaves ,fruit, smaller boxes to go inside the main box which also had fruit and nuts in. Old socks tied with fruit in and tied in knots ,old t shirts cut up and put it ...almost like a Christmas box ....soo many items
which took all morning to prepare.We then went to give these to the orangutans one for each...it was fascinating to watch what they did with everything..you can see them applying thought to how to tackle the situation ..one got water from the water tap and started cleaning the enclosure, another tried to put the t shirt on and apparently achieved it on a previous day 😀.. they clearly showed preference for different things and look to see what else there is ..was fabulous and at times funny.

The afternoon activities were leaf collection and painting.
I was tasked with leaf collection. Another ride on the back of the Hilux truck..this time we went off road-- hanging on was tricky !
The heavens opened and the most biblical, tropical rainstorm pelted down on us relentlessly, but the leaves had to be collected so we carried on ..its not cold rain here bonus !🤦‍♀️
And there was thunder and lighting but I had company and they all known now that I'm no good with thunderstorms..so were v supportive
Despite hydrophobic lens on my glasses I couldn't see anything, so hacking leaves with a machete was interesting!!
I'd not known it was going to rain so hadn't taken my overtrousers
Consequently my trousers dripped into my boots ...Bear in mind I only have boots ,wellies and flip flops...so I was really worried bout getting inside the boots wet but honestly unavoidable today
We arrived back like drowned rats....I'd have enjoyed it more if I'd had the overtrousers
Once again I had to put a load of washing out to be done,as they were so wet .My trousers dropped down with the weight ofv the water in them !🤣I was really grateful to get my beautifully ironed and folded clothes back.
