• Stuck in the mud swamp! But Awesome fun!

    May 20, 2025 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

This morning started with an activity i just knew I'd be rubbish at....creating enrichment parcels with fruit and nuts in ,wrapped in sugar palm .which was wound tightly round the stem.

.I'd made much noise in anticipation of this task ,that I'd be rubbish at it..I did manage to make 2 but finding a family of ants 🐜 😳 on the 3rd one some of whom were running up my arms was the last straw...
I passed comment I'd never made anything on Blue Peter and too late to start now!🤣

Instead I was allocated the task of washing, scrubbing and rinsing hessian bags , much happier with this 😀.

About 10.30 we went collecting leaves ...
Again off road,in the Hilux .
.Following the torrential rain yesterday, the ground was like a swamp in many places.
The rain started again...not as badly but never let up the whole time we were out
Thankfully today ,I had my wellies and overtrousers so my legs and feet stayed dry the whole time..My top was drenched...its too hot to wear a coat and my gear is quick drying..

Then it happened! The Hilux got stuck in the drivers attempt to do a 3point turn
The wheels were spinning, the mud was flying, the car wasn't moving.

Team effort of getting leaves ,branches to go under the wheels plus the floor mats from inside the car resulted in the driver being able to turn round.

However we still had to get up the hill.....so more branches more leaves and the driver tried reversing....but was unsuccessful
The security guards from the project came on motorbikes to help after a while..
Eventually reversing wasn't working, the Hilux was going all over the show .
It was suggested the driver drove forwards up the hill at the front as hard and fast as possible, which he did...This seemed successful....and then....he got stuck, again 😳 but this time on the hill...
It took more ,wood ,more leaves and the combined effort of everyone to get the hilux to the top of the hill
2hrs later ,we finally got out of the area we had been leaf cutting
Saturated again! There's no point wearing a coat ..its too hot .This time tho ,my legs and feet were dry as I'd put wellies on with my over trousers over them....My top half was dripping but my legs and feet were dry ,unlike other people's..
We were very late back for lunch ,but all needed showers 1st.
The plan for the afternoon was to go for a walk in the primary rainforest, but I'd already said Id not go .The reason being that I only have my walking boots which were Saturated from yesterday and I planned to borrow a hairdryer and attempt to get my boots dry ...I had suggested it and it had worked for someone else ..So I dried my boots , gloves, hat and underwear while the others went walking.
Maura ,who is British nurse that now lives in NZ txt and we actually ended up having a video chat....I met her and her husband on the Sri Lanka tour and ive been invited to stay with them when I go to NZ..
When the others returned, I got Kit kat...as they'd been to the shop..Much needed after this morning.
I was really grateful for the beautifully ironed and folded clean dry clothes today.
