A mega early 5.30am wake up to walk down ,in the dark to the visitor centre in Queenstown as I'd booked a day trip to Milford sound, where I'd go on a cruise in the Ffjord .
I was super early so I hovered in the porch of the Crowne plaza hotel nearby
Eventually we set off ,the weather, already cold and rainy deteriorated to snow on the Queenstown side of the mountains. We went through a tunnel under the mountains and the weather on the other side was a little better
We past a point of Latitude 45degrees which is half way between the South Pole and the Equator .
I'd begun to question why I'd come on this trip today, given the weather.
However, the cruise was really enjoyable, the scenery was amazing and we saw many waterfalls that are only obvious on a rainy day.
We experienced dolphins 🐬 swimming alongside the boat twice ...
The cruise went through the fjord to the Tasmin sea..which we entered briefly but thrn turned round
It was extremely windy on the boat 🚢 especially outside on the top deck.
I'd paid for a picnic lunch but it wasn't very good, so the kitkat I bought came in handy
I did however have several complimentary brews as the tea and milk weren't too bad 😅
I met a young Asian guy ,who was from Glasgow. He told me he'd been to the Curry mile in
M/c.His parents have just emigrated to Wellington. He was training to be a Pharmacist..
I also chatted with a girl from Singapore who thought it was always too hot there, but was finding Nz too cold and another girl from the UK who was motorhoming round NZ ..
The roads are good and not busy but an accident on the way back confirmed my views of sticking to bus tours etc. I'd also seen an accident in Cambodia involving a tourist, just complicates things and must spoil a trip.
It was 7.45pm when we returned so I went straight to the same restaurant as yesterday. This time, roast chicken and mash ....delicious!
Outside it was cold ,dark and rainy so I got a taxi back ...I'm.sure I was over charged but it was worth it anyway.
Back in my room the snow has made the news so il have to keep in touch with what's happening and amend my plans accordingly. I can't afford to get stuck in the south island 😫 .Queenstown is notorious for being in a wind basin which affects flights so I'm.bearing that in mind
