A drizzly day and seeing a kiwi bird
4. juni 2025, New Zealand ⋅ 🌧 6 °C
A really drizzly day today. So stayed in and did some travelling planning
Eventually went out in a taxi to a kiwi conservation place in Queenstown
There was a conservation talk and an opportunity to see some of the animals in Nz
What i didn't bargain on was the birds that would be free flying ...something I'm very apprehensive about in an enclosed space
When they then brought out the world's largest bloody pigeon I was totally freaked out ...1.because I don't like pigeons and 2 .because one smacked into my patio doors and decapitated itself! Kate was with me and with a lot of wretching and hysterical laughing, I scooped it's body and then head up whilst Kate held open the bin lid...I'm still having flashbacks! ..it also had the audacity to leave bloodstains on my patio.
Anyway, then went to the kiwi house ,which was in darkness as Kiwis are nocturnal
They look like a football with a spike ...and do a real funky chicken walk ....Interestingly, the eggs they give birth to are enormous. Baby Kiwis have to cope without parents from the moment they hatch
It was interesting afternoon and the land had been redeveloped by a local couple and reforested plus animal conservation right in the town centre
I then called at an ice bar because I had a free entry ticket but apparently it was the wrong ice bar ,so I didn't bother
Next door was an ice cream shop with an incredible amount of different flavours. ...it wasn't ice cream weather today though
I then went to the lakeside as there is a place where you can see the fish under water ...However the next opportunity wasn't until 45mins later and there wasn't anywhere to keep warm and dry
I went to Boardwalk restaurant, again...had fish and chips which was delicious
I then popped over to the mini market for milk,a banana, apple and Twirl chocolate bar.The Asian guy behind the counter used to work for Aldi in London. He reckons he prefers London...for the pace of life and other things
Back to my room by taxi where I had ,brew and chocolate ..and an early night as I'm on a day tour tomorrow.
Although not done much ,at least I've not totally wasted the day.Læs mere
