• Trip to Wanaka &Arrowtown

    5 czerwca 2025, Nowa Zelandia ⋅ 🌙 0 °C

Today I went on a half day tour to Wanaka and Arrowtown .. Both areas are associated with the collection of gold panning from the rivers
The areas are also associated with the ski season
The hotel we stopped at has been in the area since the 1800s
Along the way we stopped at an unlikely attraction....a torso of a woman and a lot of bras .apparently 6 women stripped to the waist and put their bras over the fence ..it has developed into quite a thing 🤔 and actually raises lots of money for breast cancer .....might have to start this in the uk.!!
Arrowtown has quite a colonial in vibe...I could imagine High chapperral being filmed there too..
Wanaka was just stunning and the now famous Wanaka tree is a fence post that once got left behind and then developed into a tree 🌳
The views here are like the lake district and yet the lake district doesn't grab me like here does .The roads are well tarmaced and not rammed with traffic. The road today was a hybrid of winnats pass and the snake pass in the uk .all vehicles seem to have to carry snow chains. The streets are all clean and tidy and even pavements.
And the overall vibe is seriously chilled by comparison to the UK
On the tour today was a woman originally from Bramhall and in a shop ,a lad from Matlock both loving the life here...
As I'd bought some food for my tea at lunch time, I came straight back to the hostel, walking along the lakeside in Queenstown, so lovely
I can't deny I've looked at Nz property this evening but the visa criteria doesn't work for me at the moment..At 66yrs old I think I can get a 2yr visa...we shall see...
