  • Yellowstone, Jenny Lake & Tetons

    15 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

Short drive from Idaho Falls to the splendor of The Tetons. The spiked granite peaks among the flat valleys of Yellowstone are breath taking. We took a boat across Jenny Lake to hike to an overlook of the Jenny Lake, The Tetons, and Yellowstone. What a view of natural beauty. We drove all around the Grand Tetons enjoying the views and dined on a packed lunch along the river.Läs mer

  • Old Faithful Geyser and more…

    16 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Today we plan to a Yellowstone and Geysers day trip. We waited patiently for Old Faithful Geyser to give its display which gave us an opportunity to chat with a Korean couple who were sitting next to us. It turns out that the Korean man was a Nazarene Higher ED professor in Korea. It's a small world. It’s hard to capture the beauty of the Grand Prismatic Springs. Yellowstone is unlike any country or place we have visited. Very beautiful but long day. On the road from 7-4pm exploring the park.Läs mer

  • Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse

    17 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore are amazing sights of a sculpture's vision from the past that is coming to fruition. We arrived later in the day at Mount Rushmore so we had the place to ourselves. The Crazy Horse monument will not be finished in our lifetime and continues to be a work in progress.Läs mer

  • Rapid City to Sioux Falls via Badlands

    18 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 95 °F

Breathtaking Badlands. It's really hard to wrap your mind around this natural beauty. It is a different kind of beauty that we are simply not accustom to seeing. A quick drive through the area but definitely a must see. As usual pictures don’t do it justice.Läs mer

  • Middle of nowhere

    19 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

Another long road trip today. We will be stopping for the night in Madison, WI to break up the drive on our way to Chicago. Chicago will be our first big city. Lots of corn fields on our drive!!! Madison is the beautiful capital of Wisconsin and a college town and we were glad we stopped here. Dinner at a wonderful burger place named Blue Moon Pub which thankfully included no driving just a short walk from the hotel.Läs mer

  • Chicago and Mariner’s game

    21 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

Second day started with a required 5000 mile car service at the Toyota dealership in Chicago on our new Highlander. Spent the day discovering North Chicago including Historic Wrigley Field, Lake Michigan and then finally taking the metro to a Mariners and White Socks game. Chicago is a bustling city full of friendly people willing to help stupid west coasters figure out how to simply ride a train to a baseball game. Chicago was scheduled to be 3 days but we cut it short and headed out after two days to Sandusky, Ohio.Läs mer

  • Sandusky,OH

    22 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

Sandusky is a pretty tourist town on Lake Erie similar to Couer' d Alene, Idaho with cool hanging art in the downtown area and a huge amusement park that we did NOT visit. A nice stop over between our trip from Chicago to Erie, PA on our way to Niagara Falls, NY.Läs mer

    Sandusky, OH to Erie,PA
Pretty green country. Had we come a month later we would have been able to see all the fall colors but we must be home in time for EWU football season . 😜 We had dinner at Presque Isle Downs & Casino and saw a horse race. Otherwise it was a rainy day perfect for afternoon nap.Läs mer

  • Niagara Falls, NY

    24 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

Niagara Falls is amazingly powerful and beautiful. So glad we took the time to add it to our trip. Although we didn’t take a boat ride to the bottom of the falls, or walk down the stairs next the falls to get soaking wet, we enjoyed natures beauty from above. It was interesting to see Canada from across the river capitalizing on the falls beauty. Canada has a tourist tram ride that crosses the river to the halfway point which is the U.S. - Canadian border. The U.S. side is a National park so it is not so commercialized but instead capitalizes on the falls natural beauty.Läs mer

  • Niagara Falls to Boston

    25 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ 🌧 66 °F

Long drive along I-90 with heavy traffic the entire way. If you think we have traffic in Spokane you haven't been to the East Coast. Speed limited is posted at 60 mph but that's merely a suggestion. Traffic moves at 80 mph or faster. Its very similar to being in a Nascar Race. Pretty rolling green deciduous treed hills. In this part of the country they put West Coast rest stops to shame with huge mega - stops with gas, bathrooms, and multiple food options including Starbucks along all the highways. Very nice. One of the pics shows a rest stop. The building is the view from our hotel in Chicago. More on that tomorrow.Läs mer

  • Boston and Fenway

    26 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

I think we may be getting the hang of this Subway system thing. We only had to ask 3 people this time for directions. We had lunch at the famous Wahlburgers prior to going to the baseball stadium. It was super good and very iconic. We had a nice chat at lunch with a teacher from Indiana and huge Notre Dame fan. Fenway Park was amazing!!! One place to see on Dave's bucket lists and which were able to check off. The fans were so passionate about the Red Sox!! It is hard to put it into words how amazing it was to see a Major League Baseball in such an historical setting. It was so much fun and a great memory..Läs mer

  • Freedom trail in Boston

    27 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Full day of exploring historic Boston on a hop on hop off guided Old Town Trolley of the Freedom Trail. Using the hop on hop off trolly to site see we still ended up walking 5 1/2 miles. We had lunch at the “Cheers” bar, toured the USS Constitution, Boston Commons, Bunker Hill, Old North Church, and the Boston Public Library (which was amazing) to name a few. On to New York tomorrow.Läs mer

  • Day 1 New York, NY

    28 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

A couple hour drive from Boston to New York in heavy traffic all the way. In NY we walked from our hotel, which was pretty much in the middle of everything. We visited Times Square, St Patrick’s Cathedral (breathtakingly beautiful), Grand Central Station, and last but not least the M&M store. Of course there was much more to see but that’s the highlights.Läs mer

  • Day 3 New York

    30 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

Spent the day visiting the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and One World Trade Center and the monument. What an amazing tribute to our country’s history. How we have built and rebuilt as a nation. Very emotional day especially at the monument for the twin towers. Hard to wrap our minds around how something like this could happen and the amount of lives lost. All of the things we viewed reminded us how strong our country is and how we persevere as a nation. Proud to be an American.Läs mer

  • New York to Washington, DC

    31 augusti 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

We got an early start out of New York but still a lot of traffic. The Doubletree by Hilton in NY, where we stayed was very small but they had some very nice staff that we appreciated. Our new DC digs are very nice and roomy and close to all the monuments. What a difference in the cleanliness around the city of DC verses NY. The restaurant we went to for dinner on our first night unbeknownst to us was Jewish. Very good but Dave was missing his Kippah (small Jewish head covering) and the cheese for his burger. We plan to get an early start tomorrow sightseeing.Läs mer

  • Day 1 Washington DC

    1 september 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Started the morning with a private train shuttle from the senators offices to the Senate chambers via their underground tunnel to a private tour of the Senate gallery. We had a senate staffer giving us an informational talk about the Senate chambers and she talked about what it was like being there when the insurrection mob stormed the building on Jan 6th, 2021. It brought tears to our eyes listening to what our elected officials and staff went through on that day. Then we toured the Capital building, the Library of Congress and finally we toured the National Museum of Natural History. 7 1/2 miles of walking today!!! The feet are tired but it’s worth it all. Good thing we have three more days here.Läs mer

  • Day 2 Washington DC

    2 september 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

Today we visited the Washington, Lincoln, MLK, FDR, Jefferson, and Korean War Monuments. We experienced the Smithsonian Museum, and American Natural History Museum. We had a chance to talk to a capital security guard by the Smithsonian Museum and we had tears in our eyes again as he shared with us his incredible experience that he went through during the storming of the capital building by the insurrection mob of Trump supporters which included the Proud Boys and extremists groups to protest the Presidential election. That mob did 30 million dollars of damage to our Capitol building and its artifacts what a sad blemish on our country.Läs mer

  • Day 3 Washington DC

    3 september 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Another full day of viewing Museums, Memorials and Monuments which included: The Holocaust, Vietnam, Arlington Cemetery, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and the changing of the guard, the grave of JFK and of course The White House. 7.5 miles of walking, more on the Metro train and bus lines. We took time to experience the changing of the guard of the Unknown Soldiers at Arlington Cemetery. They have steps for the spectators to sit on and watch in silent reverence a tribute to all our fallen soldiers who remain unknown. It's a very moving experience. What a full day of American history.Läs mer

  • Day 4 Washinton DC

    4 september 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

Took a drive around DC. Ended up in Georgetown on the Potomac river for a walk about. Reminded us of downtown Coeur d Alene. Ended with our valet smashing our passenger side mirror. 🧐 Now trying to figure out how to get it fixed while continue our road trip. Washington DC has been wonderful to visit but on to Gatlinberg, TN tomorrow.Läs mer

  • Washington DC to Gatlingburg, TN

    5 september 2023, Förenta staterna ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

Long drive from Washington DC to Gatlinburg, TN. 8+ hours of driving. 😳 Gatlinburg is tourist town full of adventure on the edge of the Smoky Mountain National Park. It also is just down the road from Dollywood theme park that unfortunately we couldn't take in (just kidding, we have no desire to see). We plan to explore some of Gatlinburg tomorrow. Beautiful country that is in our son in law, Maverick’s, neck of the woods. The second picture is of a suspension bridge we choose to view from afar.Läs mer
