• Day 43: Brindisi to Torchiarolo

    8 maggio, Italia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

The Way today (27.54 km) was a little longer than it should have been for me, as just as I finished my morning coffee, at a café along the Way (a good one km in), I realised that I had dropped my Cash Passport card out of my pocket! Naturally, I retraced my steps, but no luck, it was nowhere to be seen! Thankfully, I have a second one linked to the same account, so it was a simple matter of locking the lost card and pressing on (fingers crossed, the second card will work at the restaurant tonight). It rained the entire day, all that changed was the intensity of the rain. The problem was the prevailing head wind! At times it brought me to a complete stop! Then, it might shift to the side, as I changed direction (never once was it at my back), and blow me across the road! I had been warned the day before, at the VF office (and told by a French pilgrim I met going the other way), that a section of the Way was completely overgrown, and advised, by the office to walk down the canal. The Frenchman told me to bypass the whole thing and take the road. When I got there, I couldn't walk down the canal as the water was too high! The path was quite bad in parts and required some bush bashing at times (and, of course, I got covered in leaves, grass seeds and petals - the only real concern is getting a tick), but, really, it wasn't that bad - I could always identify where to go next. I then walked through a small wood, lovely, saw a brown fox and some Roman ruins, to arrive at Torchiarolo cold and with wet feet! Having said all that, I loved the walk today. I feel content, now I'm showered, warm and dry and I feel strong.Leggi altro
