• Day 44: Torchiarolo to Lecce

    9 maggio, Italia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

The Way today (25.13 km) started off brilliantly. I walked along country lanes, some so overgrown that it's obvious that only pedestrians pass through there. Then I passed a very flash villa (Masseria Alcaini) and an Abbey (Santa Maria di Carrate), but was too early to get in the gate! After that, the Way went through a tree covered path, that opened up and along there I saw a lot of Trulli and almost stepped on a massive light brown and black spotted snake - it was thicker than my wrist! After that excitement, the Way was along sealed roads and fairly mundane until I reached the outer suburbs of Lecce. One highlight along that section: I did meet a Belgian couple who are walking to Rome. Lecce is dubbed the "Florence of the south", so I've decided to stay an extra day to see the architecture.Leggi altro
