  • Sapa

    14. april 2019, Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

  • Cat Cat Village

    14. april 2019, Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

In the afternoon we went on a trek with our guide and her 3 month old baby girl to the Cat Cat village of the Black H’mong near the bottom of a deep valley at the foot of Fansipan Peak. Black H’mong women are famous for making cloth from hemp and dying it a deep indigo blue. I even rubbed the indigo tree leaves in my hands! They wear long blouses decorated with batik flowers over short trousers and they wrap long scarves around their legs. We then went to the valley bottom to the foot of a stunning waterfall and the remains of a hydroelectric power station constructed during Vietnam’s French colonial times. Trekking distance was about 3.9 kms and took about 2 1/2 hours.Les mer

  • Y Linh Ho and Lao Chai Village

    15. april 2019, Vietnam ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

8:30 am start ... trekking down to the south east of Sapa along the side of Muong Hoa valley to Y Linh Ho, then trek through rice terraces & along Muong Hoa stream to Lao Chai village was only a brief moment we could take in the spectacular landscape of Hoang Lien Son mountain as the fog was so so heavy. We went through the terraced rice fields to Ta Van village, home of Dzay minority people. The Dzay people speak Tay – a language belonging to the Thai group. Dzay women wear a five-panel blouse split at the sides & buttoned on the right & dark indigo trousers. The blouses differ in color depending on their age. Old women usually wear darker shades. Women wrap their hair around their head & fix it in place with red thread. The ground was so slippery... I came unstuck and landed in mud and buffalo crap!!! Was a total of 10.5 kms today.Les mer

  • Pearl Farm

    16. april 2019, Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Visited Ha Long Bay Pearl Farm. The two items needed to induce the formation of a cultured pearl are a piece of mantle and a nucleus. The mantle piece, taken from a donor oyster, is grafted into the gonad of the recipient oyster, along with a spherical shell bead nucleus. We saw how the technicians completed this process grafting up to 900 oysters a day. Was spoilt with Mark buying me a pearl necklace for my birthday.Les mer
