  • Cable car to the aquarium

    15. mars 2024, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 90 °F

Took the cable car right over the ship to Sentosa Island, hopped on a free monorail and took a short walk past Universal Studios Singapore to " the world's largest aquarium."

  • We are yellow carded!

    16. mars 2024, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

With our diversion around Africa comes the threat of yellow fever and malaria. Viking has really stepped up and provided the yellow fever vaccine to anyone who wanted it, free of charge! We got ours this morning on board while docked in Singapore. Malaria pills are on their way, again, free of charge.Les mer

  • Singapore, wow...

    16.–21. mar. 2024, Singapore ⋅ ☁️ 90 °F

This place feels like a futuristic sci-fi landscape with subtle dystopian undertones; like the police might come grab you off the street for having a negative thought. It's scarily clean compared to the rest of SE Asia, don't even contemplate leaving the restroom without washing your hands (punishable by caning I'm sure)!Les mer

  • National Orchid Garden

    17. mars 2024, Singapore ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

Visited the Singapore National Orchid Garden as part of a larger city tour. The variety of orchids was astounding. Our older guide gave us an earful about the Singaporean government (but only in the confines of the bus), confirming my feelings of the dystopian undertones. (More photos to follow.)Les mer

  • Langkawi, Malaysia

    19. mars 2024, Malaysia ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

This is a resort island in the very NW corner of Malaysia, just south of Thailand. Wonderful beaches and friendly people. Our brief tour took us to the namesake brown eagle statue and a traditional rice farm. Not a bad place to spend a week on a beach...Les mer

  • Phuket, Thailand

    21. mars 2024, Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Went on a private snorkeling excursion to several small islands. Lots of coral and fish. Viking even provided sack lunches and beer/cider for our trip.

  • Malaria, hurray!

    23. mars 2024, Bay of Bengal ⋅ ☁️ 84 °F

No, we don't have it, just trying to prevent it. Again, with the change in itinerary taking us around Africa, Viking has provided a full course of malaria prophylaxis free of charge. We'll begin after leaving Sri Lanka just before our India overland to Delhi, the Taj Mahal and Jaipur. We will continue the pills as we travel overland in South Africa for four days and finally stop a week after leaving Senegal. 35 days total.Les mer

  • Colombo, Sri Lanka

    25.–26. mar. 2024, Sri Lanka ⋅ ⛅ 88 °F

Colombo, Sri Lanka was a feast for the senses in all the best ways. Very hospitable people, AMAZING Buddhist Temples, stunning beachfront on the Laccadive Sea, separating it from India. Sacred Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara Buddhist Temple 5th century BCE is believed to have been visited by the Buddha and 500 monks on his third visit to Sri Lanka.Les mer

  • Tour of Old and New Delhi

    28. mars 2024, India ⋅ ⛅ 88 °F

With 34 million people the crush of humanity is everywhere. There are hawkers and beggars but they are mostly polite and the Indian people are gracious to all visitors providing a heart felt "namaste" at every greeting. Hinduism, the primary religion in India and the oldest in the world, really does have a lot to offer (beyond the thousands of gods to choose from🙂). About 94 degrees this morning!Les mer

  • Mauritius, ahhhh...

    1. april 2024, Mauritius ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

Mauritius is a volcanic island 500 East of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Home to 1.2 million it has 27 micro climates and the Dodo bird is a national symbol. The 🦤 Dodo had no fear of humans or predators before the Dutch arrived in 1598 and in under one hundred years was extinct. Tourism, agriculture (sugar cane, etc), and textiles are their biggest industries.Les mer

  • Cape Town, we made it!

    10. april 2024, Sør-Afrika ⋅ ⛅ 61 °F

Two nights here and then off on our three night safari! We have our table mountain excursion this afternoon, followed by a full day private tour of the area tomorrow.

  • Cape Town, S. Africa

    10. april 2024, South Atlantic Ocean ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

The Viking Neptune could not dock in Richard's Bay, S. Africa. High winds. Sailed south to Durban, also couldn't dock. On to South Africa's beautiful city Cape Town. We decided to skip 12 days at sea going up the West Coast of Africa. So with friends Jack and Deb we enjoyed an amazing day exploring Cape of Good Hope and then flew back to Durban to do the safari we missed due to not being able to dock. We are heading to Thanda Private Game Reserve! Good Bye Neptune, we will miss you on this last leg to London but we've made a great decision for us!Les mer

  • Cape Point Tour

    11. april 2024, Sør-Afrika ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

Wonderful but windy day in Cape Town. So windy in fact, the Viking Neptune, scheduled to leave last night, didn't make it out of port until the next morning. Pax had already been through emigration to leave the country so they were stuck on the ship and 😡.Les mer

  • Thanda Game Reserve, South Africa

    13.–16. apr. 2024, Sør-Afrika ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

Thanda Game Reserve is amazing with 37,000 acres, the big five and only 18 guests right now. From our rooms and food to our guide and our tracker - exceptional! We are in Zulu country near the northern border of South Africa.Les mer

  • Weather delay in Dubai!?!

    16. april 2024, De forente arabiske emirater ⋅ 🌧 82 °F

Raining nonstop for five hours. And yes Dubai... When we disembarked the Neptune, Viking generously said they would fly us home however we wanted to go (although Antarctica might have been a stretch). Since we missed the Fiordlands on the south island of New Zealand due to weather, we said send us there first then home. So right now we're on a grueling flight to Queenstown, NZ for a 12 day visit before we head home. That's assuming Emirates Air can figure out how to fly a plane in the rain.Les mer
