  • Birds at Terry Smith Lookout

    27. juli 2021, Australien ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

Last night we stopped at Terry Smith lookout. This morning we had many birds visit. The honeyeaters were in quite large numbers. It was the first time I had managed to easily photograph quails. They hurry off so quickly but this particular morning they were under a fellow traveller’s van, a much easier target.

  • 70 Birds around Corella River

    1. august 2021, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

The Clem Walton Park, just below the Corella River is one place we really look forward to visiting. Once again we were lucky enough to get a spot for a stopover right on the river. Levels are a little lower but the duckweed is absent this time. I expect there was a good flush from the floods earlier in the year. Interestingly we have not yet sighted any ducks, as was the case two years ago.

There are large numbers of birds here with over 20 different Sightings in the first afternoon here. It will be interesting to see how many birds we spot while we are here.

  • The Birds at The Dig Tree

    7. september 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

This place was magical and crazy with birds, lots of birds. Cooper Creek had water but the heavy rains on our first night changed the landscape for the next few days. The birds found the puddles and became quite active at the puddle sites. We both loved the place and would need very little encouragement to stay again. It was an easy place to explore and wander.

  • Birds at Noccundra and Surrounds

    9. september 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We were told to visit Noccundra by a fellow birder. Originally it was off our path but that was when we were going to Innamincka. With the border closures happening, we decided against this. Then Noccundra became a necessary stop for fuel on our way to and from the Dig Tree. The Wilson River area was a great place to stop and a great place for birds. We were pleasantly surprised.

  • Birds at Lake Bindegolly

    13. september 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

I had originally planned we would stay here for 2 nights. On arrival it didn't look anything special and there was no water on this side of the lake, no water views at all. We'll just stay one night and move on. After staying a night and wandering a little, I suggested to Rob we stay the two nights as originally planned. It was a good decision as I found an Orange Chat and a Crimson Chat on my wanderings, never having seen these birds before. There was quite a bit of birdlife, more than I expected. We definitely would stay again but be prepared for the 9km walk in the National Park itself which we didn't do this time.

  • Paddabilla Bore Birds

    14. september 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

A nice spot to stay and I wandered looking for birds during our overnight stay, in the afternoon and the following morning. I thought I was leaving the place without anything special birdwise when I happened to see a parrot shape land in a tree. It just looked like a shadow on the camera screen but, after downloading the image onto a larger screen, I realised I had photographed the Bourke’s Parrot. The morning walk had been a fruitful venture after all.

Today was another visit to Chinchilla Weir. Another place that has had improvements made. Again picnic tables beside the water, a new pontoon, gardens and drive-through van sites, some with power. • Chinchilla Weir camping area.

    12. august 2022, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

It's been a while since we viewed from this point. The local council has done a massive upgrade with world class landscaping and properly designated camping area. There is a new toilet block to complete the impressive area.

This is a popular place to stop for a night or two and includes some powered sites. Lots of native plants are thriving in the areas surrounding the day area. In a few years it will provide a haven for many birds.

Today is very windy with gusts up to 25kph and over. I launched the Sparrow (DJI Mini) for 2 minutes to about 30m for a couple of photos of the impressively full lake formed behind the weir.

  • St Lawrence Wetlands

    23. juni 2023, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

We had been interested in going to the St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend for some time and eventually got there. Costa was a big drawcard for us - he is an amazing gentleman.
We call in to these wetlands every time we head north but this was the first time attending the wetlands weekend. There seemed to be something for everyone, even the kids. Of course we enjoyed the bird watching tour but also participating in the rejuvenation project. One of the most interesting tours was the Mangrove Walk which helped our understanding of the differences between the species. It was a great weekend.
It is advertised as being held the third weekend in June but this year was held on the fourth weekend in June. Keep a look out for this event held in June.
