European Van Trip 2023

Une aventure de 178 jours par Lucy & Chris En savoir plus
  • Meerauge

    26 mars 2023, Autriche ⋅ ☁️ 3 °C

A tiny lake at the very south of Austria

Meerauge is located in a valley at an altitude of 1010 to 1160 meters.

The origins of Meerauge can be traced back to the last ice age. At the site of present day’s Meerauge there was probably a lump of dead ice, which left a visible depression in the ground after it had completely melted away. The bright turquoise-blue color is the result of several factors: light, special chemistry, very clean water (almost no algae, hardly any plankton and hardly any nutrients in the water).

P.S does anyone know what that plant is on my last photo?

  • Monte Varagna overlooking Lake Garda

    11 avril 2023, Italie ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

A 2 hour slog up the mountain and a 25 minute slightly sketchy roll back down...
    Followed by a bath.

  • Innsbruck

    17 avril 2023, Autriche ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Innsbruck is famous for its colourful historic buildings along the river, in front of a mountain backdrop.

Despite very poor visibility this last week or so it was still beatiful and the whole city was colourful and lovely

Lennon slept the entire time we were visiting and just woke up to go home 😂

  • Hintertux Glacier Camp

    19 avril 2023, Autriche ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

Well we have been a bit unlucky with the weather and under the weather too.

Went an Austrian Glacier to ski/board and see some incredibly high views... But you could barely see your hand in front of your face, so Brace struggled in a white wash for 2 days and me & Lennon watched Bluey in bed a lot poorly in the van 🤣

Hopefully we will have better luck next Glacier 🤞🏼

  • Lake Hechtsee - Austria

    20 avril 2023, Autriche ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

So back in 2020, we flew through Austria in a mad rush trying to get to warmer climates in time to be locked down...

This lake was the only place we went, and I've Always LOVED the photos from our first visit and framed a few, and so we decided to go back and do the same photo shoot 3 years on, and in a different season 🤣 I mean we could certainly have had better luck with weather/lighting, but it was nice to walk round again regardless.

As you will see, all these pics are October 2020 followed by April 2023

I was absolutely overjoyed to find the exact tree in the last picture 🤣 I love the 2020 picture so much and so I was worried I'd not be able to find it 😅

  • The rest of the pictures from this visit

    20 avril 2023, Autriche ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Despite Lennon stopping to pick up every single thing he saw, and having to prevent him ending up in the lake constantly we made it round in time for tea ✌🏼

Despite the photos being very disappointing in comparison to the first time, it's such a nice place and everyone is super friendly. Hopefully we will come back here again in summer and in full snow so we can see it in all its colours 😍

Also there are so many hand holding pictures as this is brand new, he would never do it before 🤣 so it's funny watching him do it

  • Mai Fest

    1 mai 2023, Autriche ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

As we were driving around we saw loads of sheep and people in very traditional Austrian clothing. So we pulled up and it turns out it was the local May Festival. There was a sheep contest & food and stalls and lots of beers about for 10am 🥳😂

Weird local events are my favourite thing while travelling. Its those moments it feels like we have a cool life 😎😂

  • Vaduz - Lietchensteins Capital

    3 mai 2023, Liechtenstein ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Well Leitchenstein has a population smaller than denby dale, and is the smallest stand alone country in the world!

There is not much to do or see, but everywhere is spotless and the people seem very friendly. The whole Country is basically a valley between 4 mountains and some of those mountains. So standing in the middle of the valley you get 360° mountain top skyline, and you can see the entire country stood still 😂

We spent a few hours in the capital and then went back to skate near the van that's how small it is 🤣

  • Leitchenstein Camping Carpark

    3 mai 2023, Suisse ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We liked it here, it was just a carpark but camping was allowed and there were a few so it felt comfortable. Sorry all the pictures are me because I was playing and left Brace as photographer.

However, after 2 days of playing out on wheels, I noticed there were actually lots of COCKROACHES. So I stayed inside from that point & took no pictures myself.

I can't even eat dates because they look so much like cockroaches... Horrible things. Its crazy because the streets were soooo clean and we saw them washing a few streets... I guess in a valley surrounded by mountains all they can do is keep killing them 😫

Hahaha I'd forgotten until writing this... But actually on the way into the city from this very spot... I dropped a kit kat on the floor and picked it up & ate it and joked that I'd tell everyone the streets of Leitchenstein were so clean I ate off them 🙃 well so do the cockroaches!

  • Chur Switzerland

    6 mai 2023, Suisse ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Brace had a day at a bike park so me and Lennon went to explore the city. Things started off well we saw a bike race and found the best park yet...

Then Lennon woke from his nap and very sick everywhere in a cafe... There was sick all over the floor the walls and for about 50m a trail where it was spilling off us while I was asking passers by to help me who didn't speak English but eventually I got us both the to toilet which was being cleaned and every time I asked the cleaner to let me in for an emergency he shrugged and said 'it's ok!` with a grin and just didn't move 💁🏼‍♀️

Poor poorly Lennon had to be pushed home in just his nappy, lucky for him it was about 25°

Poor me, had so much sick on me I had to hand wash my TShirt in the cafe toilet and walk home sopping wet and stinking of it... Unlucky for me it was 25°... So the smell just got worse and worse until we got home to a van with NO WATER 🤣🙈😂😫

He seemed fine after a few hours and ate some beans for tea... Hopefully he does ok through the night as we don't have spare sheets!!!

  • Bungy Niouc Bridge Switzerland

    13 mai 2023, Suisse ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Niouc Bridge was built in 1922, as a means to get water from one side of the valley to the other, its why you see a thick red pipe running along the top of the bridge.

One of the staff members grew up there in the village and when she was little, years after the bridge had stopped being used for water, the local kids would run along jumping the gaps in the bridge from missing and broken wood 😬 with no safety precautions whatsoever 🤣

The bridge was bought for its current purpose for the grand sum of 2 Swiss Francs, which was only due to the law in Switzerland stipulating you must make a profit from property sale... The guy who owned it before them bought it for 1 Swiss Franc 🤣

Well anyway now it is a playground for adventurous travellers, you can bungee, swing, zipline & even walk the slackline which is at the end of the video

It's the highest bungee jump in the world in terms of altitude, and said to be the most beautiful

The people were lovely and we ended up camping there amongst the staff & their friends & families, who all stay here for the weekends in vans and a wood hut, and live in near villages through the week while there are no jumps booked

The jumps themselves were incredible, though Lenny was a little traumatised 🙈 but he adored the rest of the day, the place is like a park so a playground loads of games and family friendly dogs & a fire etc

Best day of this trip for all 3 of us in the end 🥳

  • Frieberg

    21 mai 2023, Allemagne ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

You will probably notice a big jump... I left my phone on the bed, and Lennon threw it out of the back door of the van 😢

Anyway, here we are in Frieberg. We had a nice couple of days next to a big park to use the trees to shade from the heatwaveEn savoir plus
