  • San Pedro

    10 de mayo de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

It's 10 minutes past 10:00 we are on I-10 we have just passed over the San Pedro River if I should maybe cold it looked awfully dry to me. some wonderful news that I only was reminded of this morning honey has a mobile hotspot in our Chariot so that I can stay in touch with people and possibly on the great North I can do some writing and be in touch online which is great news for me.
just one other thing as far as I'm concerned over I know you like a decently edited note well editing a words in the fronts in the passengers seat of an RV on a phone is not conducive to to accurate editing so it don't expect it.

  • Massai Point Nature Trail

    11 de mayo de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

magical light at Bonita Camp from diffused early morning light.
Drove to Massai Point to walk the 4.5 mile (4hrs) Nature Trail among fascinating 'Hudoo' (sp?) rock formations.
All in all we did rather well.
Rather suspect that image overload will be a Hallmark of this and upcoming trips.
Connie gave me a National Parks PASSPORT, to record our visits to the parks.

  • Cave Creek, near Portal, AZ.

    12 de mayo de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

    * We are at Stewart Camp, in Cave Creek , near Portal, AZ.
    * Talk of Trogan and Pigmy Owl. Woman at Visitor Center played Sibley Spotted Owl call. Should download Sibley as well, bur zero Cellular service here.
I Spotted White Breasted Nuthatch, dismounting from 'Chariot', as we arrived about 11:45.
    * Enormous peaks on either side. Astounding in height and drama. Never thought anything like this existed in AZ.
    * Hopefully nature trail tomorrow, then back to TUCS.
    * Hiked up nature trail, to a another camp site. Walked back on road to Stewart Camp.
Surrounding peaks and crags highlighted by setting sun.
    * Connie saw fungus growing on roots of live oak.
    * Incredible mountain scenery and caves in peaks. How were the caves formed? Boulders eroding?
    * We have thoughts of returning for a much longer stay - up to 14 day stay allowed.
    * Slowly getting used to life in or rugged 'Chariot'.
    * This shakedown is proving useful.
    * Surprised and proud of my driving all the way From Bonita Camp in the West side of Chiricahuas to here, Stewart Camp, on the East side.
Friday 13th, midday. sketching at the ranger station. moving back to Tucson in the near future.
absolutely magical stay in the cave Creek we really are determined to come back here very soon.

  • Return to um... Tucson.

    13 de mayo de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

17:01 (5:01 p. m.) After the absolute pristine air and light of bonito camp in the West chiricahuas and Stewart Camp in Cave Creek on the west of the chiricahuas almost in New Mexico. It was rather horrific returning to rush hour traffic on a Friday afternoon in Tucson. There is a high air pollution / air quality warning etc etc.
anyway we think back with fondness to the drama the grandeur of keg Creek and it's majestic peaks that surround it the beautiful lights of the campsite to filtering through the trees etc etc. there was a creek that was just managed to flow the water was just moving in the creek that slowed passed out campsite. we sat this morning at the ranger station and uploaded some of this go find the penguin app messages and will Connie and I did some sketching or especially off cathedral peak. my pen had to run a dry I borrow two of cornies and they were dry as well so it the watercolor I tried didn't really work out because I it's been a while since I've done a watercolor but we'll keep trying.
it certainly seems that Connie and I enjoy the forestry National Forest camps and a life it's a good but more primitive I believe than the national sites like Yosemite and all the rest where everything is laid on the the roads are taught they are toilets and showers and all of all the rest that we did not have either at Cave Creek nor at Bonito Camp. Anyway the Chiricahua is all a wilderness area so you don't expect flush toilets or showers in the wilderness or I don't.
so I checked with Connie as we got back to Tucson I just the trip was successful for both of us it seems and with all intents and purposes we should be taking off in 2 weeks time on June 1st. Our destination probably a little bit of New Mexico, Las Cruces and then head for the Painted Desert,White Sands... I think it's all up in the air will go where and when our intuition leads us.
That's it! Man where is that pizza!
    Namaste,
    Jack...

  • Tweaking for June 1st 'Groot Trek' (Big

    14 de mayo de 2022, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

I have a feeling that both Connie and myself were viewing the shakedown tour to the Chiricahuas as a test of whether we could make it on a three to four months tour together and roughing it in national forests. I checked more than once with Connie last night and today, and yes it seems that all is "Go" as far as the two of us are concerned.

What remains for us in the next two weeks is to tweak everything like fastening the screws on the inside of the cabinets in the RV so that handles don't come flying off when the door crashes as we move, making certain the solar panels on the roof are secure and tweaking our art supplies, the photographic stuff and getting everything ship-shape before we lift off June 1st.

Tentatively we might head back to the Chiricahuas for a while, then again it's tentative head north to Mount Graham and then to Colorado, sometime around the beginning of July. It's all tentative and unfortunately it's also due to the confounding variable of the climate crisis and the fire threat in the forests.
But, intrepid charioteers that we are... we'll see how things go.
For now: "We're ready... let's go!"

  • Delusional? The middle of Summer?

    25 de agosto de 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

Cold. Rain. Clouds socked in low down. "Of course! It's August...." but this is just what August is like in South Africa, cold, wet and damp with cloud and mist everywhere. Not quite the summer we expected in the middle of Wyoming in the Northern Hemisphere! Today fast became poncho / windbreaker / knitted hat day with gloves at the ready.
Just tell me again - how is your summer going?
Oooh, Tucson is heading for a week's worth of >110° . Never mind.
    Time to snuggle under duvet.
    Till the sun shines again,
    Connie + Jack.
