  • Helicopter tour 4: Wai’ale’ale crater

    19 de mayo de 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

When Wai’ale’ale erupted 5 million years ago it formed the coconut coast and created a sheer wall for water to run down. Our pilot said we were really lucky today since it had rained so much but the clouds parted for a few hours during our tour so we could get into the crater. Usually it’s either socked in with clouds or there’s water coming down but not as much as we saw. When it’s running hard like it was today they call it the Weeping Wall.Leer más

  • Epic open door helicopter tour of Kauai

    19 de mayo de 2023, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

We had a break in the weather long enough to finally do our delayed helicopter tour. Our pilot, Kelby, was great and kept everyone safe and calm. The winds were insane and between sites we traveled at 110-150 mph! We saw so many things, but the highlights were Jurassic falls (where the helicopter in the movie first lands), Waimea canyon (fewer clouds than this morning), the Napali coast, and Wai’ale’ale which is the volcano that erupted 5 million years ago to form the Kauai east coast. Inside the crater of Wai’ale’ale are hundreds of waterfalls when it rains since the dome averages 300+ inches of rain a year! Sometimes up to 600”! It’s usually ranked in the top 10 wettest places on earth each year.Leer más

  • Arches Day 2: Delicate Arch at night

    5 de septiembre de 2024, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

After relaxing with the pups for several hours, we headed back to delicate arch for sunset and star gazing. We expected a large crowd for sunset, when the arch turns a bright orange with the lowering sun, and we were correct. There was great people watching as everyone scrambled for their photo under the towering rocks. Once the sun sat the majority of people head down the trail since it can be daunting to do in the dark if not prepared. One of the groups that stayed behind had nice camera and tripod equipment and kindly informed us that the Milky Way would be visible above the arch starting at 9pm. We had already planned on staying for star gazing but this was just a cherry on top! We love seeing the Milky Way, and knew it would be easy to spot as Arches is a designated dark sky park (meaning light pollution is actively reduced to protect the night sky viewing). It was overall an amazing experience, and we had fun getting down the trail in the pitch black. Thank goodness for headlamps!Leer más
