Türkiye geliyorum!
I have been learning Turkish as part of my MA in linguistics since October 2023. Why Turkish? My partner's mum is Turkish and I wanted to speak her language. Turkish is the second most commonly spoken language in Germany after German, so there are plenty of speakers around. After 3 Turkish exams and 3 semesters of studying, it's finally time I visit the country where the language is spoken. Not on my own, my parents will meet me from the UK and join me tomorrow. I am eager to see if I understand much and if people understand me!
Set off from Erfurt Weimar Airport one day earlier than expected, since my flight from Berlin on Monday got cancelled due to trade union strikes. Very lucky I had finished my term paper, a coursebook analysis of teaching Turkish speech acts, of course, and was able to leave a day earlier, from my local airport 10 minutes up the road, the only flight that took off today!Read more
