  • St James Parish, Kilkhampton, UK

    9 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Today was a day of roaming the countryside for family history research. This was our first stop. I knew this village was a familiar name from my research so we stopped at the church. I walked right up to my GGG Grandparents headstone. The church was open so we explored inside. It was incredibly old and very interesting.Leer más

  • Church of St Stephen, West Putford, UK

    9 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

This is the tiniest village imaginable with one lane roads going to it. It was where a GG Grandmother of mine was born. We walked up a laneway with holly trees to get to the church and cemetery. Again the church was open. The date on the door was in the early 1600's but there were parts of the church that dated back to the 1100's!Leer más

  • Cleverdon, England

    9 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

This was not far at all from our last stop. Based on my research the same GG Grandmother who was born in West Putford worked as a servant in this house in 1861. We found the house no problem and the doors were wide open so we walked up and called "hello". The woman who lives there now invited us in and gave us a tour of the areas of the house she would have worked and lived in.Leer más

  • Cornwall Records Office, Truro, England

    10 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We dropped in here today hoping to get a couple of questions answered. The first one was answered. They pulled out the big book you see in the photo and we were able to learn why my GG Grandfather was sent to Bodmin jail that we visited the other day. He and another boy stole some hair. Yes I said hair (This was at a time when wigs were being made). He was sentenced to 14 days and was "orderly" during his time served. I was also able to get a copy of my GGG Hancock Grandparents marriage record.Leer más

  • St Werburgh Church, Warbstow, England

    10 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Once we knew where my Hancock GGG Grandparents were married we headed to the church and this is it. Unfortunatly they had just locked it for the day. We had a chat with two gentlemen in the cemetery. They told us you just go into the village and ask for the key. We declined but may stop in again tomorrow.Leer más

  • History Hall, Bradworthy, England

    11 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We were invited to stop in at Bradworthy's History Society meeting. There was a local expert there who was able to give me details on one branch of my family tree back into the 1700's. She also had interesting information about what life was like for my relatives in that area at the time.Leer más

  • Running Horses Restaurant, Box Hill, UK

    11 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

The dinner menu at our hotel was a little too fancy so we scooted up the hill to this place. Dinner and the service was great. England was playing in the FIFA semi finals so everyone was watching the game in the next room. They were very quiet compared to Canadians watching hockey..Leer más

  • Highclere Castle, Newbury, England

    12 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Today started with our visit to Highclere Castle. It was impressive to walk towards it with the blue sky in the background but, as we have frequently found on this trip, it wasn't as large as we expected. We toured through all the upstairs rooms you see on the show, including some of the bedrooms, and the inside was even more luxurious than you see on TV. The servants area downstairs has been turned into an exhibition for the finding of King Tut's tomb. An earlier Lord Carnarvon from the castle was a co-discoverer of this. We wish we could include photo's of the inside but photography was not allowed. We did walk down the main staircase!Leer más

  • Stoke Charity, England

    12 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

This was the most beaitiful spot! We were driving into the village and I shouted for Doug to stop the car I needed pictures. There was a narrow stone bridge over a creek with a pond beside it. In the background was the village church on your left. On your right adorable cottages with thatched roofs. To make it even more perfect....the church you see in the distance was where my GG Grandma Susanna Hancock (Bye) was baptised and her father before her.Leer más

  • St Mary&Michael Church, Stoke Charity,UK

    12 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

This was the church in Stoke Charity were the Bye family attended (my ancestors). I do know a couple of generations were baptised here and I look forward to learning more. There was a tomb inside the church of a Thomas Wayte. I have sent the info from that off to my cousin as he has extensively researched the Waite's.Leer más

  • Hen and Chicken Restaurant, Froyle, UK

    12 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

I have been having a bit of trouble at times finding food I like in England. I'm not a fan of lamb, rabbit, duck or fish so when we saw a place called Hen and Chicken we thought I might be fine. It was also a carvery which we have learned is a good thing. It's basically like a good quality country style buffet but you only go through once. It's not unlimited. Tonight's choices were beef, turkey and pork!Leer más

  • Portsmouth, England

    13 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

I checked out the outlet stores here while Doug checked out the harbour. Then we both went up a high tower at the waters edge. We could see Southampton, our destination for tomorrow.

  • Azura, Ocean Terminal, Southampton, UK

    14 de julio de 2018, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Jackson had to go back to work as soon as we got to the ship but Ashley was off.She gave us a great tour all around the ship, both in the passenger and crew areas. We got to see her cabin which is a good size. We visited Jackson a few times and relaxed in his area. He works in a section attached to the spa area so it was nice and quiet and shaded. Passengers were boarding and they don't usually find his area right away. Everything was very impressive ( 6 or so swimming pools and a huge theatre)!Leer más
