We took a walk along part of the Solent way in glorious sunshine. There were many walkers and cyclists out for the first full day of the new lockdown.
We enjoyed the walk which took us westward once we hit the coast towards the River Hamble. A good mix of coastal and industrial landscape. There were small flocks of Turnstone birds on the waters edge rummaging in the surf. We are very pleased that we decided to move site. There are 4 vans on this site, but also 37 chalets where the residents are permanent. Everyone is very friendly here, and we are enjoying chatting at a distance to our neighbours. The residents of 2 of the vans have lived in their vans for almost 10 years. Makes us feel like newbies!!!! We have discovered that there is a rule about staying on a site long term. After 28 days on a site it is necessary to move (one night away will suffice) and then return for a further 28 days. During lockdown this rule does not apply - and we have been told that we can stay as long as we want. This site has excellent facilities - showers, toilets, launderette, book and DVD library and a visitor centre. As there are only 4 couples making use of these facilities, and we are all being extremely careful we feel perfectly safe doing so. Doesn't mean we don't wash our hands for the requisite amount of time every time we have done so!!! We are enjoying cooking many recipes from Jamie Oliver's 30 minute meals book - none of then take as little as 30 mins, but they have all been very tasty so far and time is something we have plenty of!! Alan continues to make bread at least once a week. We are eating and drinking well, but are exercising daily to try to work off some of the calories consumed!!! We have decided to walk the Solent Way during the next few weeks. The walk is 60 miles long in total, but we will break it up into manageable distances. It sounds as if it takes in some interesting history and passes through some beautiful places - many of which we have visited before over the years. Looking at the weather forecast for the next 10 days it looks as if it is in our favour.Leggi altro

We moved on the day before the lockdown to this site at Warsash, where we have planned to stay for 4 weeks. We fancied a change of scene and to do some walking along the coast in this area. We arrived as some caravans were leaving due to the lockdown but we and three other motorhomes are here for the shutdown.
We are grateful to Peter and Charmaine who offered to assist us in moving the two vehicles to the new site and to Syd and Jo for picking us up and delivering us to The White Horse in Otterbourne where we all enjoyed a pre lockdown lunch followed by coffee chez Gillman.Leggi altro

Sidmouth

Armed with the car we drove down to Sidmouth to spend some time with Alan's mum, and we managed to meet up with Alison and Russell for a nice walk along the sea front.
The trees across the lawn from Meg's flat were very colourful.
It was great to see everyone, especially as the new lockdown was being announced for the forthcoming month, which means our next visit cannot be planned.Leggi altro

We have spent a week out and about the area
Monday - Karen went out for a walk with friends in Chandlers Ford
Tuesday we walked through the woods and into Chandlers Ford
Wednesday was a domestic day.
Thursday was a day supposed to be dedicated to sorting the reversing camera out on the van but that was delayed to another time once again. Water pump failed on van
Friday we walked to Ampfield and enjoyed a pub lunch with Jo and Syd -great company once again.
Big thanks to Syd for lift on Saturday and assisting with picking up replacement pump - in and working perfectly within 30 minutes to our relief.
Sunday we walked through into Ampfield woods which was muddy underfoot but most enjoyable.
There then followed a few days of intermittent rain with dry spells, and we got out for a few walks. We cycled over to see Peter, Charmaine and family - it was great to see them all in such good spirits.
Kirsty brought the car down to us on Thursday, which we were grateful for - we enjoyed a nice lunch at The Olive Tree in Romsey prior to seeing her off on the train back to Bristol.
On Friday Alan was set up with a 72hour ECG monitor which stayed with us for the weekend.Leggi altro

Lightwater Country Park

We travelled up to the country park where we had arranged to meet Stewart with our three grandchildren Magnus, Jemima and Mary. Unfortunately Emily could not join us due to the rule of six but hopefully she enjoyed a peaceful day for once.
We stopped by Tesco on the way to stock up for a picnic, and Karen managed to find a place to park near the park entrance. We found the play ground equipment and enjoyed our picnic with them all - many grandparents were doing the same thing - before going for a walk through the woods.
Mary smiled through the whole day, Jemima chatted away the whole time. She is hilarious, and Magnus enjoyed foraging for sweet chestnuts in the undergrowth with granny and grandpa and found enough for them to try a roast on their halloween night bbq.
We managed a couple of coffees at the tea room whilst the children played around and on the apparatus.Leggi altro

We enjoyed meeting with two sets of friends on Wednesday.
In the morning Joan and Chris joined us for a socially distanced external chat in the sunshine. When the clouds came over it got quite chilly, which required A to don hat and coat, nevertheless we enjoyed catching up and the home made yogurt cake provided by Joan proved to be a triumph.
In the afternoon we cycled into Chandlers Ford to get some reading matter from the library after which we journeyed on to have a socially distanced chat with Marion and Alan in their garage. Again it was great to catch up with the family news and get another sugar rush from the brownies.
On Thursday we cycled to Hillier Arboretum to meet with Syd and Jo, who kindly signed us in to join them for a wander amid the trees and gardens. The autumn colours are quickly coming in with some of the gardens very colourful. The car park was very busy but the gardens large enough to allow social distancing. An interesting week - not without its worries. Alan had a problem with his eye that he took to an optician for a full check out. The news was not great but could have been a lot worse - probable neurological bleed resulting in loss of sight to rhs. There then followed a trip to the GP followed by visit to the Stroke Clinic at Royal Hampshire Hospital, where a brain scan showed that a minor blood clot was the cause of the eye problem.
Brilliant service from the NHS once again, despite the snotty and all knowing receptionist at the Gratton Surgery who was more intent on protecting her doctors than their patient.
Long term prognosis not too bad as long as some minor changes to life style are made and tablets are taken to thin blood and reduce cholesterol to very low levels. My eyesight may not return where it was and if not my driving days are over. Thank goodness Karen is happy and able to take on the full driving duties.
We have managed to see some friends so far on our stay here this time. Karen was pleased to meet some of the girls at Elaine's and another group of friends for coffee at a local pub (all socially distanced of course). We have enjoyed a pub lunch with Syd and Jo in Ampfield and enjoyed a visit from Grahamv and Viv to our van for a chat over a cuppa.
We are getting out walking every day, passing through the woods, to the east of us and expect to be picking up with other friends for as long as we are in the neighbourhood. We hope to be able to move on with confidence in November but the covid situation across the country may alter our plans.Leggi altro

We have set up at Body Farm for 10 nights so we can catch up with friends, do our health related stuff and MOT the van.
