    Blue Lagoon

    August 11, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Blue Lagoon was our first stop and it turned out to be a good decision after the long flight from Hong Kong via London. We purchased the package of "Comfort" but if you bring your own towels, you can select the lowest tier one instead. Yes, it's expensive but it's Iceland, right?Read more

  • Krýsuvík

    August 11, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

This is a mid stop from blue lagoon to Reykjavik. Good to have a short walk to admire the special landscape. But after this point going North, there is a short section of gravel road which requires a 4WD car.Read more

  • Blue House B&B

    August 11, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

The accommodation of our 1st night. It's in a residential neighbourhood. Thus, if you would like to try the famous night life of Reykjavik, you better select something near the town centre. Nevertheless, this B&B accommodation is very good, especially in a high cost area like Reykjavik.Read more

  • Geysir

    August 12, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

After lunch, we drove to the second stop of the Golden Circle. The famous geyser allows you to walk quite near without much danger. And more importantly, it sprints very often, around once every ten minutes.Read more

  • Gullfoss Falls

    August 12, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

The last stop of the Golden Circle is Gullfoss Falls. That's the first major waterfall we visited in Iceland. It's awesomely powerful! It's not easy to have such experience in other areas of the world.Read more

  • Cafe Arhus Hella

    August 12, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

We chose Hella as our base for two nights. It is a great spot after touring the Golden Circle to give us a good rest before the hike in Landmannalaugar tomorrow.

  • Landmannalaugar

    August 13, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Today, we drove two hours to Landmannalaugar. That's far away from the Route 1 and would give you a taste of the roughness of Iceland's wilderness in its central part. The landscape is very special and a short loop hike around 2 hours allows you to visit a lava field, a valley of wildflowers and an active volcano.

4WD car is required to drive to this place and the road is extremely bumpy. We took the route F208 which is the only one without crossing any stream or river because it sounds too scary to drive into water.

And, you have to pack your own lunch as there is nothing to buy.

  • Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi

    August 14, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

There are two waterfalls in this location. One of them is bigger and allows you to walk behind it. Though it seemed small when we drove to it, it's very powerful when you got near. But the second one, which is around 500m away, was far more amazing. It's smaller but you can walk through the gap and get literally under the waterfall. It's a very rare experience.Read more

  • Skógafoss

    August 14, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

After a short drive, we went to another waterfall. Yes, Iceland is full of waterfalls. This one is also very spectacular but you can't get too near because it is too powerful!

  • Fjaðrárgljúfur

    August 14, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

This is very beautiful canyon. Exactly the scene you would find at a postcard. If the weather was good, you can sit over the cliff to enjoy the scene for hours.

  • Hvoll Guesthouse

    August 14, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We found this hostel because it was the nearest one I found to the glacier next morning. But it was a gem in nowhere. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and spacious. Highly recommended. All of us wanted to stay for one more night.Read more

  • Skaftafell / Vatnajökull National Park

    August 15, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Today we visited the Skaftafell / Vatnajökull National Park. We joined the "Blue Ice Experience" tour organised by Icelandic Montain Guides to walk on the glacier. That tour was the most basic one which gives you only a taste. But this was the only one accepts kids above 8 years old. The walk lasted around 2 hours. I cannot say that it's exceptionally good but it still covered basics in a short time. If the kids are older, we will definitely try some other more adventurous tours.Read more

  • Svartifoss

    August 15, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

After the glacier walk, we took a short hike around 1.5 hours to Svartifoss. The hike was an easy one. However, the waterfall seems more beautiful in picture than in real life because it was quite small actually. If you are short in time, you can skip this one.Read more

  • Jökulsárlón Iceberg Lagoon

    August 15, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

This is the small lagoon with iceberg. We didn't join any tour as the area is easily accessible by our own. However, by joining tour, you can take a boat trip to go near the iceberg. We saw that some also visited by riding a small single person canoe, which seems very interesting. As we were short in time, we only took a short walk to the shore. But there are many areas with good photo spot here. We wish that we had more time here.Read more

    August 15, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

  • Seydisfjordur

    August 16, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

The weather was still not good today with shower rain. We drove two hours to Seydisfjordur, which was a beautiful coastal town. The mountain in both sides are full of beautiful cascades.Read more

  • Litlanesfoss

    August 16, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

We had lunch at Skaftfell Bistro, which is a very nice bistro with an art gallery. Actually, the town of Seydisfjordur is full of cultural atmosphere. Afterwards, we drove to another waterfall for a short hike of 1km. But it seems that the kids are tired of waterfall already. Yes, Iceland is full of waterfall. And, actually, for a further 1.5km, there is a even more beautiful one at a higher mountain.Read more

  • Krafla

    August 17, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

We finally arrived the Myvatn area, which is the top visitor attraction area in Northeast Iceland. Our first top today was a crater. But it was very windy and cold today. We were only able to get off the car to take a look for a few minutes.Read more

  • Namaskard

    August 17, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Namaskard is only a few minutes away from the previous stop. It's similar to Krysuvik in Day 1 but this one got some strange piles of stone with steam coming out constantly. And it was very stinky!

  • Dimmuborgir

    August 17, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

We took a 1.5 hour loop hike here among the lava field. It's quite interesting and the formation of lava stone was quite impressive with many arches like the one in the photo.

  • Hverfjall

    August 17, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

As the weather was still okay, we took a 0.6Km hike to another crater. The uphill hike was an easy one. This crater is quite large but we did not take the 2.5km hike around the crater as the weather was getting bad again.Read more

  • Myvatn Nature Baths

    August 17, 2017 in Iceland ⋅ ☀️ 6 °C

With continuous shower rain, we decided to escape the coldness by going to Myvatn Nature Baths. It's similar to Blue Lagoon of Day 1 but this one was more simple in facilities and also much cheaper, which was only half the price of Blue Lagoon. We enjoyed a great time here relaxing ourselves after days of hiking.Read more
