Los geht's!

Heute ist es endgültig so weit! Gestern haben wir noch das Wohnmobil geholt, den Zeltanhänger angekoppelt und noch alles Nötige verstaut. Jetzt packen wir nur noch unsere persönlichen Sachen ein – und ab geht’s! Das Wetter könnte nicht besser sein: strahlender Sonnenschein und angenehme Wärme unter einem tiefblauen Himmel.
Unser erster Stopp ist Admont, wo wir uns mit einer ordentlichen Portion Kasnocken stärken. Danach geht es weiter nach Gmunden. Bei einem Spaziergang über den Stadtplatz lauschen wir dem Glockenspiel, bevor wir in Bad Ischl das legendäre Café Zauner besuchen. In dieser traditionsreichen Konditorei, die schon zu Kaisers Zeiten Weltruf genoss, bestaunen wir die vielen Leckereien und genießen direkt unter Sissys Gemälde jeder ein Eis.
Nächster Halt: Hallstatt. Ein kurzer Fotostopp am See und ein wenig frische Luft in dieser malerischen Umgebung, dann führt uns der Weg weiter Richtung Ramsau am Dachstein. Doch gleich hinter dem Hallstätter See wird es ernst: Die Straße steigt steil an. Obwohl Karl versucht, mit viel Schwung hochzufahren, muss er irgendwann herunterschalten – und dann passiert es: Nichts geht mehr. Das Wohnmobil schafft die Steigung nicht. Wir müssen alle raus und schieben – und ja, auch Dave und Mary müssen mit anpacken, ihnen bleibt nichts erspart! Und tatsächlich, es hilft. Karl bekommt genug Schwung und zieht an uns vorbei. Wir müssen ihm ein schönes Stück zu Fuß nachlaufen, bis er eine ebene Stelle findet, an der er sicher halten und auf uns warten kann. Völlig außer Puste kommen wir schließlich an.
In der Ramsau, direkt am Fuße des Dachsteins, beziehen wir einen wunderbaren Campingplatz mit Teich, Sommerrodelbahn und Spielplatz. Die Mädels sind begeistert! Zuallererst bauen wir jedoch – zum allerersten Mal – den Zeltanhänger auf. Und siehe da: Es klappt! Den Abend lassen wir glücklich beim Essen im Restaurant ausklingen.

Let's Go!

Today is finally the day! Yesterday, we picked up the RV, hooked up the tent trailer, and packed everything we’re going to need. Today, we’re just tossing in our personal bags, and we’re off! The weather couldn’t be better: pure sunshine, pleasant temperatures, and clear blue skies.
Our first stop is Admont for some filling Kasnocken (cheese spaetzle). Then, it's on to Gmunden. While strolling through the town square, we listen to the glockenspiel before heading to Bad Ischl to visit the legendary Café Zauner. In this traditional pastry shop, famous since the days of the Emperor, we marvel at all the specialty treats and enjoy some ice cream right under a portrait of Empress Sissi.
Next up: Hallstatt. A quick photo op by the lake and a breath of fresh air in these beautiful surroundings, and then we push on toward Ramsau am Dachstein. Right after the lake, the road gets incredibly steep. Even though Karl tries to hit the hill with some momentum, he eventually has to downshift—and then it happens. We come to a dead stop. The RV just can’t make it. We all have to hop out and push—and yes, that includes Dave and Mary; we didn't let them off the hook! And believe it or not, it works. Karl finally gets enough momentum and takes off. We have to hike up the road after him for quite a distance until he finds a level spot to pull over and wait for us.
By the time we catch up, we’re all exhausted and gasping for air. In Ramsau, right at the foot of the Dachstein mountain, we find a fantastic campsite with a pond, a summer toboggan run, and a playground. The girls love it! But first things first: we have to set up the tent trailer for the very first time. And it’s a success! We grab dinner at the restaurant, feeling tired but happy.
