It was only 14.5 miles but by the end of the day I was tired. The last 2 miles was a dry river bed, covered with roots and loose volcanic rocks. Patience won out and God brought me in safe. Lots of fun with Camino friends at dinner. My bad French has made me “Camino famous.” I’m so grateful for this experience.

Leaving Le Puy after the Pilgrims Mass, we climbed the hills, leaving Le puy behind. I stopped for a quick sandwich and water at Saint Christophe sur Dolaison, a nice little stop with a small church, a public bathroom, a fountain (see my hat walking sticks) and a petit magasin with cold water and a ham and butter sandwich that was very satisfying. More climbing, and we stopped at the tiny chapel Chapelle Saint-Roch de Montbonnet. I took another meal at a bar just beyond the turn up the hill following GR65. It was well worth the diversion, because I had a wonderful version of the local dish, Lentille Verte. After that, climbed for the most beautiful trails I’ve seen so far before challenging descent into Saint-Privat-d'Allier. The descent was tedious, but it was accompanied by beautiful sound of water in the brick at the bottom of the path. I feel very blessed to be here.
