  • DAY ONE.

    2 April, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Well, my guide/porter speaks English, so I’ll be practicing my English in my posts as well. 🤭 Finally, today my twelve day trekking adventure to Everest Base Camp is starting. I’m sooooo excited! 🤩

    📍 Start: Lukla, 2860 m.ü.M
    🏁 Destination: Phakding, 2610 m.ü.M

⏱️ Time to hike: 3 hours
    🥾 Hiking level: Easy
🌞 Weather & temperature: Warm (wear a thermal shirt, sport leggings, and warmer trousers)
    🤗 Feelings: Powerful, fit, excited

    Evening:
We arrived at the first teahouse in Phakding, which is located at 2610 m. It’s cold inside, and everyone is sitting here in warm clothes, enjoying warm tea and delicious food. I don’t even want to think about a hot shower—certainly not, because it’s my first day, and eleven more days will pass without a shower. 🙉🤭

    📍 Start: Phakding, 2610m.ü.m
    🏁 Destination: Namche Bazar, 3443m.ü.m

Yesterday evening i went to bed at 7pm. After a little meditation i was reading my book and few minutes later, i fell asleep. Probably even for 7:30pm.🤭 I was thankful for the warmth of my sleeping bag, which provided me a cozy night. It was truly hard to get up at 6am because the room was quiet cold and the clothes to put on, as well.🫣

⏱️ Time to hike: 5.5 hours
    🥾 Hiking level: Easy
🌞 Weather & temperature: Freezing in the morning (we started at 7 a.m.) later warm and comfortable (wear a cap, gloves, two thermal shirts, a jacket, sports leggings, and warmer trousers)

    4 April, Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 0 °C

    📍 Start: Namche Bazar, 3443 m.ü.M
    🏁 Destination: Syangboche, 3960 m.ü.M - Khumjung, 3790 m.ü.M
    —> back to - Namche Bazar, 3443 M.ü.M

Last night I didn’t sleep well because I had pain in my head. At first, I thought it was coming from my neck, so I did some exercises, but it didn’t help. I realized the pain was because of the altitude.🏔️ After only a few hours of sleep, I got up at 6am because the meeting time was at 6:30. This morning, I’m feeling much better and not very tired.🤩

Today is our acclimatization day. Firstly, I thought this day was just for relaxing and regeneration, but my guide told me the day before, that we will hike up nearly to 4000m. I was really happy because I’m feeling fit and excited for another hike and more impressions.😍Otherwise, spending a whole day in Namche Bazar, would be too freezing and boring. 🤭

Highlight: first view of Mount Everest.🤩🏔️ (pic. 10😋)

⏱️ Time to hike: 5.5 hours
🥾 Hiking level: While the first 30 min. difficult, afterwards easier
🌞 Weather & temperature: Freezing (we started at 7 a.m.) wear a cap, gloves, two thermal shirts, the warmest jacket, sports leggings, thermo leggings and warmer trousers)
🤗 Feelings: Great, overloaded with energy and motivation, and no pain in my head at all. 🤩

  • DAY FOUR.

    5 April, Nepal ⋅ ☀️ -14 °C

    📍 Start: Namche Bazar, 3443 m.ü.M
    🏁 Destination Tyangboche, 3876 m.ü.M - Pangboche 3930 m ü. M.

After a comfortable night, we left Namche Bazar once again at 7am. Our destination was at an altitude of nearly 4000 m. So I thought, we would only hike up today. As we started to walk going down, I quickly realized, it isn’t just about going up.😵‍💫 We went about 300m down from sea level and afterwards nearly a thousand meters up.🙉At 2:30pm we finally arrived the little village „Pangboche“ while it was snowing. ☃️
I was wet from my underwear to the top layer.😅
For today, it was definitely sufficient. 🤭

The hardest and most challenging part of the day is washing me after hiking and getting into fresh, warm clothes. 🙉 Normaly, we don’t have to wash us outside, but inside itis also very freezy because there is no electricity. 🥶 I went to bed early, but it tooks a long time to feel me warm enough to sleep, even I was in my sleeping bag, wearing warm socks, two shirts, a pullover, a cap, and my buff. I also had the chance to warm me up with two blankets because it was a room with two beds and two blankets.🙏🏽😴

⏱️ Time to hike: 7.5 hours
🥾 Hiking level: firstly easy, afterwards difficult, last one hour very difficult
🌞 Weather & temperature: So freezing, windy,
sun was always shining but the wind was so cold
    🤗 Feelings: greateful, impressed,
for today enough, ready what tomorrow brings, not as tired as i expected, feeling freezy

  • DAY FIVE.

    6 April, Nepal ⋅ ☀️ -12 °C

    📍 Start: Pangboche, 3930 m ü. M.
    🏁 Destination: Dingboche, 4410 m ü. M.

This morning, I felt much more comfortable and warmer than yesterday evening. I also felt recovered and ready for the day, but I also knew that we would have a short hiking trip of only about 3.5 hours, which motivated me as well.🤭 We hiked up the whole way, but the stunning view made the journey easy, even if it was steep.🌞🏔️

As we arrived in Dingboche, which is located about 4410m, we checked in, into our accommodation. Afterwards, I spent the whole afternoon reading, eating, and drinking in a fancy café. It was the first café with a cozy, warm interior. I really enjoyed it.😍

⏱️ Time to hike: 3.5 hours
    🥾 Hiking level: easy
🌞 Weather & temperature: pleasant, warm,

    🏁 Destination: Dingboche Ri, 5400m ü. M.
    —> back to Dingboche, 4410 m.ü.M

Today is our acclimatization day in Dingboche. It means we will acclimatize us to an altitude over5000m above sea level. A hike nearly 1000m to the top will reward us. After my lazy afternoon yesterday, I’m so ready to climb more hills and mountains, and surely, every step will be worth it. 🤩🏔️🌞

Even if the hike was hard and challenging, it was the most beautiful day until now.🤩🤩
I can‘t wait to reach the everest base camp.😍

⏱️ Time to hike: 5.5 hours
🥾 Hiking level: hard, challenging, exhausting
🌞 Weather & temperature: warm as we hiked up, cold as we hiked down
🤗 Feelings: inspired, overwhelmed, grateful for my vitality, energy, well-being & no symptoms of sickness because of the altitude🙏🏽😍

Today, I met Christine from the Netherlands again in the mountains. The first time we met us was on the flight to Lukla, after in Namche Bazar again. She told me that she have to share the room with five other guys and that she couldn’t sleep because they snore. She’s very kind, and I also felt a little bit of „mitleid“ so I invited her to sleep in my room tonig, because I have a second bed.

The worst thing happened🤭, we had to wash us outside.🙉🥶

  • DAY SEVEN.

    8 April, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ -7 °C

    📍 Start: Dingboche, 4410 m.ü.M
    🏁 Destination: Thukla, 4620 m.ü.M
    - Lobuche, 5020 m.ü.M

The weather was pretty good when we started our hike in Dingboche. After nearly five hours, we arrived in Lobuche. For the first time, I had a big bed and also a mirror in my room, but yep, it was still cold inside.🤭🤩

In the afternoon, my guide asked me, if I want to go for a "short walk" around the village. I agreed, but thinking it would really be a short walk. But once again, we ended up hiking🙈, this time to a small, beautiful lake.😍
As we walked, the weather started to change. It began to snow, and my body felt completely exhausted and cold. Fortunately, we arrived at the teahouse two hours later, and I crawled straight into bed to warm myself up.🥶

⏱️ Time to hike: 6.5 hours
🥾 Hiking level: a mix of easy and hard 😅
🌞 Weather & temperature: warm as we started, freezing by the time as we arrived in Lobuche
🤗 Feelings: rough and ready, but quite well.😮‍💨😍

  • DAY EIGHT.

    9 April, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ -14 °C

    📍 Start: Lobuche, 5020 m.ü.M
    🏁 Destination: Gorakshep, 5160 m.ü.M
    —> EVEREST BASE CAMP, 5364 m.ü.M 🤗🙏🏽

Today, I realized for the first time how many tourists want to reach the base camp. Until now, the teahouses and even the hiking routes haven‘t been overcrowded.🙏🏽Lobuche is a very small village, and maybe because of this, all tourists stayed in the same teahouse and so, everyone started the day at 7am, in a beautiful, white, but also very cold landscape.🌄☃️
The higher we went, the more difficult it became to walk and breathe. The air is quite thin, and everyone was coughing and had a cold, also in the night.🤧

Before lunchtime, we arrived in Gorak Shep, which is the starting point for the base camp.
It was obligatory to check the pulse and blood pressure. If the results were okay, you received the confirmation that you were allowed to hike to the base camp. ☑️🩸 Otherwise, you had to hike down.

I felt tired and very cold, even if we were drinking tea inside. Normally, it was planned to hike to the base camp in the afternoon, but I asked my guide if we could go now because the longer I sat, the colder and more tired I felt.😴

Finally, we started the journey to the base camp.🤩🇳🇵

⏱️ Time to hike: 6 hours
    🥾 Hiking level: middle-hard,
—> way to base camp - hard, difficult
🌞 Weather & temperature: cold, icy, breezy
    🤗 Feelings: exhausting, tired, frosty
after base camp: extremely happy, emotionally upset, satisfied, proud that i reach my goal🙏🏽

  • FINALLY, EVEREST BASE CAMP.

    9 April, Nepal ⋅ ☁️ -4 °C

If you don't know which mountain is Everest, take a 100-rupee note and look for the mountain that matches the one on it. - Statement to me, from my guide. 🤑😆

  • DAY NINE, Sunrise Hike.

    10 April, Nepal ⋅ ☁️ -17 °C

    📍 Start: Gorak shep, 5020 m.ü.M
    🏁 Destination: Kala Patthar, 5643 m.ü.M

Another highlight | didn't want to miss was watching the sunrise from Kala Patthar.🌄
At 4am we set off from Gorak Shep with our headlamps (mine, of course, had no battery left😆).

I don’t know if it was the lack of coffee, the cold, the sleepless nights, or the many kilometers we had covered over the past few days, but this morning I was completely drained of energy and I really reached my limits.😖
My guide was pushing me the whole way, and finally, we reached the top.🏔️
It was so freezing cold, breathing was difficult, and to top it all off, my drinking water was frozen.😩

If I had to choose again, I probably wouldn't do this trek a second time, hmmmm let's be honest, probably I would.🙈🤭

⏱️ Time to hike: 2.5 hours
🥾 Hiking level: sooooo steep and hard
🌞 Weather & temperature: sooooo cold
🤗 Feelings: reached my limits, felt bad, energy was eempty

The way down was much easier, and my guide and I ran the whole way. The first time that I felt good and warm, this morning. 🙏🏽
Afterwards, we ate porridge and drank black coffee. ☕️My Energylevel was loading.🙏🏽✨
Maybe also because I knew that in a few minutes, the long way back to Pangboche, nearly 1500 meters lower, will reward me, and it would take us more than eight hours to reach this little village.

  • THE DESCENT.

    10 April, Nepal ⋅ ☁️ -17 °C

Of course, after hiking up, we also had to hike back down. Almost the same route we took to reach the top was the one we had to take back down.
I put my earphones inn, my guide as well, and we just walked, walked and walked..
While every kind of weather said hello.🌧️☃️🌞

    Day nine:
    Gorak Shep – Lobuche (8 hours 👣)
    Feelings: 😍🤩💪🏽🙋🏻‍♀️🌞🌻🤗
Overwhelmed, morivated, satisfied, walking felt pretty easy.

    Day ten:
    Lobuche – Namche Bazar (6 hours 👣)
    Feelings: 🤗🙋🏻‍♀️💪🏽😮‍💨🙄
The first few hours easy, after these - exhausted, low motivation

In Namche Bazar, I got an upgrade because my hotel was overbooked.
So we went to another place, and there I had the chance to buy a “hot shower” for 500 rupees (ca. CHF 4🤭)
Even the bathroom was disgusting and the water just barely sprinkled out of the shower, was it honestly the most comfortable shower that i’ve ever ghad.🤭🚿
    Sometimes less is really more.🙏🏽

    Day Eleven:
    Namche Bazar – Lukla (8 hours 👣)
    Feelings: 😊😮‍💨🙄😒🦵🔥
It started ok, but during the last two hours I had low energy and motivation. The way was steep again and my legs burned.🔥

14:30h we finally arrived in Lukla,
    I was soooo grateful! 🤩😍🙏🏽🌞
Also, I was starving and in the mood for a delicious coffee, a smoothie, some chocolate, sugar, and something orher for lunch than rice. 😅☕️🍔🍟

Tomorrow morning at 6:15am, I will fly back to Ramechap, and after four hour by jeep, I will arrive in Kathmandu.
I can’t wait to take a shower, put on fresh clothes and to be in the warmth.🌞🌞🌞💛💛💛

  • Lazy days, Kathmandu. 🧘🏻‍♀️☕️

    14 April, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

After my trekking tour, I spent the last five days in Kathmandu. The very first thing I did, besides taking a long, hot shower, was catch up on laundry.😋🧺
Otherwhise, I didn’t really do much. I stayed in a hostel in Thamel, the area where most tourists stayed. Thamel is a well-known neighborhood, famous for the lively atmosphere, trekking preparation, vibrat nightlife and cultural vibe.🇳🇵
I spent my days while i was walking around or relaxing in cafés, reading, planing my next destination and relaxing.🧘🏻‍♀️
Thamel is a nice place to visit, but two days, three at most, are definitely enough to spend here.🤭

  • (Nepali) Food.🤤🍛

    16 April, Nepal ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

In a fancy restaurant, I ate my (not really nepali typical 🤭) breakfast, every morning. 🤩🍌
Otherwise, for dinner, I almost always chose traditional Nepali food because I truly loved it. 🍛
Dal Bhat (rice, vegetables, and lentil soup) or momos with vegetablesin it, were my favourite dishes. 🤤
(About prices: breakfast, coffee, and fresh fruits/juices were "much more" expensive than dinner.
My most expensive dinner, in a really good (thai) restaurant, cost nearly CHF 15, while the cheapest, but still fully equipped one, was about CHF. 3. 😋🍚
