19/8 Ollantaytambo day 1

Our first day in Ollantaytambo (oh-yahn-tie-TAHM-bo).

We explored the historic village which is unique as the original Inca urban layout is maintained including narrow cobblestone streets, stone houses and stone aqueducts running alongside the roads and paths, which still function for irrigation. We had a delicious lunch of quinoa and veggies (Quinoa is very popular here as the Incas considered it a sacred grain).

Second stories have been added to many of the residences and thatched roofs replaced with tiles, but the lower stories maintain their original 15th century granite blocks constructed by the Incas.

We became good friends with the cat at our hostel, who we later found out is named Nirvana.

Por la tarde Sal had a Ponche Piteado 'Spiked punch' described as 'Hot punch with nuts, vanilla and pisco'. Dijo que estaba muy delicoso.
