    Manly Beach

    Manly Beach is the plan for today: after checking in at the Base Backpackers Hostel in Sydney we took the ferry towards Manly Beach. Unfortunately another cloudy day and no beach weather for us. Nevertheless the trip was worth it! We walked along the coast, had lunch at the beach and went back strolling through the shops of Manly. Tomorrow we get up early to catch the train to the Blue Mountains.

    Manly Beach heißt der Plan für heute: Nach dem Check-in im Base Backpackers Hostel in Sydney nahmen wir die Fähre nach Manly Beach. Leider ein weiterer bewölkter Tag und kein Strandwetter für uns. Trotzdem hat sich die Tour gelohnt! Wir gingen an der Küste entlang, aßen am Strand zu Mittag und schlenderten zurück durch die Geschäfte von Manly. Morgen geht es früh zu den Blue Mountains.    En savoir plus

    Blue Mountains National Park

    The early bird gets the worm! At 7:00 a.m. we took the train to leave for the famous Blue Mountains ⛰. Quick educational excursion: the Blue Mountains carry their name because they look blue when seen from Sydney. This is due to the fumes of eucalyptus oil, which rises through the heat of the sun and looks blue from far away.
    After 2 hours train ride to Katoomba and 30 minutes bus, we reached the first stop: the Three Sisters. Three parts of the canyon forming three peaks of the mountain.
    After a short hike „into the first sister“, we took the bus to Katoomba. There we noticed that on Labour Day there are no buses to Evan's Lookout. We absolutely wanted to do the Evan‘s Lookout and Canyon Walk, because the dear family Trupke, who let us stay with them the first days in Sydney, had recommended us the Hike and spot. Well, we had two options. The first one - Uber - was too expensive and didn't really drove towards there. So we went for the second alternative: take the train to Blackheath and then hitchhike 👍🏼😅. Good old Hitchhiking 🤪. And it worked fabulously, it took one traffic light phase until the nice Liane picked us up and took us up the road for 3 km. A real Australian woman (well, as far as it can go to be real Australian) 😃. Not two minutes we stood at the road, which led to the Evans Lookout before two dear Jehovah's Witnesses ladies stopped, turned around for us and drove us to our destination😊. Hitchhiking works perfectly ✅.
    The hike down and up the canyon was very nice. It went through damp rain forest, dry rock walls and small rivers 👌🏼. After the hike, we were well done and ready for the train back. The same luck as before, we had when hitchhiking the way back from the Lookout. Two travellers picked us up and dropped us in Blackheath close to the train station. What a successful day! 🤩👍🏼

    Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm! Um 7:00 Uhr früh ging es mit dem Zug los zu den bekannten Blue Mountains ⛰. Kurzer lehrreicher Eintrag zwischendurch: die Blue Mountains trage ihren Namen, weil diese, von Sydney aus gesehen, blau aussehen. Das liegt an den Dämpfen des Eukalyptus Öls, welches durch die Hitze der Sonne aufsteigt und so von weitem blau erscheint.
    Nach 2 Stunden Zugfahrt nach Katoomba und 30 Minuten Bus, erreichten wir den ersten Stopp: die Three Sisters. Drei Teile des Canyons, die drei Spitzen des Gebirges bilden.
    Nach einem kurzen Hike bis “hinein in die erste Schwester”, ging es mit dem Bus nach Katoomba. Dort stellten wir fest, das am Labour Day (Feiertag) keine Busse zum, etwas nördlich gelegenen, Evan‘s Lookout fahren. Den Evan‘s Lookout und Canyon Walk wollten wir jedoch unbedingt machen, da uns die liebe Familie Trupke, bei denen wir die ersten Tage in Sydney schlafen durften, den Hike und Spot empfohlen haben. Nunja, die erste Möglichkeit Uber war zu teuer. Dann ging es zur zweiten Alternative: mit dem Zug bis mach Blackheath und dann Trampen 👍🏼😅. Good old Hitchhiking 🤪. Es hat fabelhaft funktioniert! Eine Ampelphase hat es gedauert, bis die nette Liane uns aufgabelte und 3 km die Straße lang mitnahm. Eine waschechte Australierin (na gut, so waschecht es eben geht)😃. Keine weiteren zwei Minuten standen wir an der Straße, die auf den Evans Lookout zuführte und zwei liebe Zeugen Jehovas Damen hielten an, drehten für uns um und fuhren uns bis zum Ziel 😊. Trampen klappt einwandfrei ✅.
    Der Hike den Canyon runter und wieder hoch war sehr schön. Es ging durch feuchten Regenwald, trockene Felswände und kleine Bäche 👌🏼. Nach dem Hike, waren wir gut geschafft und bereit für den Zug zurück. Das gleiche Glück beim Trampen hatten wir auf dem Rückweg vom Lookout, wo uns ruckzuck zwei Traveller aufgabelten und in Blackheath nah an dem Bahnhof absetzten.     Family Time in Bonny Hills

    After a very long bus ride we finally made it to auntie Elke’s place. We couldn’t wait to see her and have family time 😍. We arrived super late last night at 2 am and then we kept talking for 1.5 hours 🙈. So super tired we got up today to go to the doggie beach with little Inga and for a nice long beach walk. From the coastline we saw dolphins 🐬- so cool!
    After that some shopping, cooking and relaxing ☺️. Great time!

    Nach einer gefühlten Ewigkeit im unbequemen Bus, erreichten wir um 2 Uhr nachts endlich Elkes Haus. Wir konnten gar nicht abwarten, sie endlich zu sehen und ein bisschen bekannte Familien Zeit auf dieser Reise zu haben 😍. Wir quatschten nachts noch bis 4 Uhr 😂🙈, was uns heute sehr müde erwachen ließ. Nach dem Frühstück sind wir lange am Strand mit der süßen Inga (Elkes Hund) spazieren gegangen und haben dabei sogar Delphine gesehen 🐬 - so verdammt cool!
    Nachher stand nur noch einkaufen, kochen und relaxen auf dem Programm. Ein super Tag!    En savoir plus

    Whale Watching in Port Macquarie

    Today we went for Humpback Whale Watching in Port Macquarie 😊. The three of us went on a speedboat with a small touring company in Port. The sea was super rough today and the whales very hard to spot. It took us 45 minutes to find some. But the wait was so worth it! We finally found a mother with a cub and a companion 🐳. And they even did some acrobatics for us! How rare and lucky is this! 🤩

    Heute ging es for uns drei zum
    Whale Watching nach Port Macquare. Derzeit reisen die Buckelwale die Küste entlang. Obwohl sehr viele Wale unterwegs sind, hat es durch die wilde See ganze 45 Minuten gebraucht, ehe wir Wale entdeckten. Doch das warten hat sich gelohnt! Wir fanden eine Mutter mit Kind und einem Escort Wal (Onkel?) und nicht nur das. Das Kalb machte für uns sogar ein paar Sprünge im Wasser! Wie unglaublich sehen ist das?🤩.    En savoir plus

    Today we went to Billabong Zoo. When I first visited Australia as a 5-year old, we went to the very basic animal park “Billabong Park” in 2001 to see some native Australian rescued animals. 18 years ago I was allowed to pet the koala - he even hold onto my hand so hard. Today auntie Elki took us for a visit to Billabong to see show usage Australian native animals. We saw dingos, emus, cassowaries, kangaroos, saltwater crocodiles and other animals. Unfortunately we all thought the enclosures of the animals were way too small - they even gave space for the visitors pleasure and too have a nicer environment in the zoo, than spending the money and pace to the enclosures of the animals! The park also became more like a zoo, keeping animals, like lions and snow leopards, who are not native in Australia at all!
    Still, seeing the Koalas at the park and restating the picture I took 18 years ago was such a childhood memory moment for me ❤️. I loved Australian animals then and I do now!
    To get some good human feeing after the zoo, we went to the koala hospital afterwards. There they rescue all the kolalas injured by cars, bushfires or anything else and help them. Either they return the animals to the wild or they hold on to the ones who can’t survive in the wild no more after their injuries and treatment. So many of them are infected with chlamydia and are blind ever since. Others have brain injuries or burns 😥. Nevertheless the hospital takes care of them! So good ❤️🐨.With their releasing back to the wild programm they try to restore the population of the koala. Nice feeing of animal treatment finally 😍.

    Heute waren wir im Billabong Zoo in Port Macquarie. Als ich das erste Mal als Fünfjährige in 2001 mit meinen Eltern nach Australien flog, besuchten wir den sehr einfachen "Billabong Tierpark", um einige einheimische gerettete Tiere zu sehen. Vor 18 Jahren durfte ich einen Koala streicheln - er hielt sich sogar so fest an meiner Hand fest, das ein Wärter ihn mir abnehmen musste. Heute nahm uns Tante Elki zum Billabong Park mit, um uns einige einheimische Tiere zu zeigen. Wir sahen Dingos, Emus, Kasuare, Kängurus, Salzwasserkrokodile und viele weitere. Leider waren wir alle der Meinung, das die Gehege der Tiere viel zu klein sind! Der Zoo hat es für wichtiger befunden, den Platz und das Geld für das Wohlbefinden der Besucher und eine schönere Umgebung im Zoo zu nutzen, als es für die Gehege der Tiere auszugeben! Der Park selbst wurde zudem mehr wie ein Zoo, der Tiere, wie Löwen und Schneeleoparden hält und die überhaupt nicht in Australien heimisch sind!
    Dennoch war es für mich ein absolut emotionaler Moment und Erinnerung an die Kindheit, als wir die Koalas im Park sahen und wir das Bild, das ich vor 18 Jahren aufgenommen habe, nachstellten ❤️. Ich liebte schon damals die australische Tiere!
    Um nach dem Zoo ein gutes Gefühl zu bekommen, gingen wir danach ins Koala-Krankenhaus. Dort retten sie alle Kolalas, die durch Autos, Buschfeuer oder sonst etwas verletzt wurden und helfen diesen. Entweder wildern sie die Tiere wieder in die Wildnis aus oder sie geben denjenigen ein Zuhause, die nach ihren Verletzungen und Behandlungen in der Wildnis nicht mehr überleben könnten. So viele Koalas sind mit Chlamydien infiziert und seitdem blind. Andere haben Hirnverletzungen oder Verbrennungen 😥. Trotzdem kümmert sich das Krankenhaus so toll um sie ❤️🐨. Mit ihrem Auswilderungsprogramm versuchen sie die Population des Koalas wiederherzustellen. Endlich ein paar gute Taten für die Wildnis 😍.    En savoir plus

    Relaxing family time and less excitement

    For those who are wondering what we’ve been up to lately, here’s why we sonst blog that much 🙈. We’ve been staying at my aunts place the last 5 days and we are enjoying some family time with a feeling of home 🏠. The weather was so shitty that we just played cards, baked and cooked nice things (Elki wanted a German Hefezopf for example) and watched Netflix. The other times we spend hours taking or walking along the beach 😍😊. So really nice quality time with auntie 😘. Feels good to have a sightseeing, rushing and hostel break for once 😇.
    Tonight we are leaving for Byron Bay 🥺.

    Ihr lieben, für diejenigen, die sich fragen, was wir in letzter Zeit gemacht haben, hier ist, warum wir nicht so viel bloggen 🙈. Wir haben die letzten 5 Tage bei meiner Tante verbracht und genießen derzeit die Familienzeit mit einem Gefühl von Zuhause sein 🏠. Das Wetter war so schlecht die Zeit, dass wir einfach nur Karten spielten, backten und nette Dinge kochten (Elki wollte zum Beispiel einen deutschen Hefezopf). Oder wir schauten einfach Netflix. Die anderen Male verbringen wir Stunden damit, den Strand entlang zu gehen und zu quatschen 😍😊. So wirklich schöne schöne Zeit mit Tante 😘. Es fühlt sich gut an, einmal dem Sightseeing, der Eile und den Hostels zu entkommen 😇.

    Byron Bay and some beach time

    After saying goodbye to Elki and 7 hours of nighttime busride we finally arrived in Byron Bay. We were allowed to check in at our Hostel at 9 am - which is super nice - and therefore we’re able to catch up on some sleep. After that we went to the beach for some tanning and walking 😊. A really nice first day in Byron.
    Another cool thing about our hostel is, that they offer „free“ (I’d say included) dinner every night 😍. And it tastes quite good as well 🙉😅.

    Nachdem wir uns schließlich von Elki verabschiedet haben und 7 Stunden nächtlicher Busreise hinter uns gebracht haben, sind wir endlich in Byron Bay angekommen. Wir konnten glücklicherweise direkt un 9 Uhr morgens in unserem Hostel einchecken und ein bisschen Schaf nachholen. Danach ging es erst einmal zum Strand, um ein bisschen zu brutzeln und uns zu bewegen. Ein sehr schöner erster Tag in Byron Bay 😊.
    Ach ja, was noch sehr cool an unserem Hostel ist, dass die uns im Preis inklusive wir abends Essen bekommen. Das Beste: es schmeckt sogar einigermaßen gut 🙉😅.    En savoir plus

    Byron Bay surfing

    Today we did the one must-do-Byron Bay- thing: surfing🏄🏼‍♀️ 🏄🏽‍♂️.
    The wind in Byron is quite shitty for surfing at the moment, the only beach for surfing ain’t the beginner spot! 😂. But well, who cares, just on the board and try, try, try.
    Because the weather conditions and my self confidence about surfing weren’t very good, we just rented one board to share.
    And it worked out pretty good! First Matthias tried his luck, Sophie watching him and all the Byron Surf Guys to learn and we both did good. After Matthias it was my turn, and it worked out better and it was more fun than I expected! 😍
    We had a great day in the water and at the beach.

    Heute haben wir das absolute Must-Do-Byron Bay-Ding gemacht: surfing 🏄🏼‍♀️🏄🏽‍♂️.
    Der Wind in Byron ist momentan ziemlich scheiße zum Surfen, der einzige Strand zum Surfen ist NICHT der Anfängerspot! 😂. Aber wen interessiert es schon, einfach rauf aufs Brett und versuchen, versuchen, versuchen.
    Da die Wetterbedingungen und mein Selbstvertrauen beim Surfen nicht besonders optimistisch waren, haben wir uns entschieden ein Board zu mieten und uns abzuwechseln.
    Und es hat ziemlich gut funktioniert! Zuerst versuchte Matthias sein Glück, Sophie beobachtete ihn und alle Byron Surf Guys, um zu lernen, und wir beide taten gut. Nach Matthias war ich an der Reihe, und es funktionierte besser und es machte mehr Spaß als ich erwartet hatte! 😍

    Sunrise Run to the lighthouse

    Getting up at 5:20 am and off for a morning run uphill to the lighthouse to watch the sunrise 💪🏼. And it was beautiful and so worth it!

    Busride to Noosa with lunch in Brisbane

    After our very early morning run, we checked out of Byron Bay and went onto the bus towards Noosa Heads. The Bus made a 2.5 hours stop in Brisbane, therefore we went for some lunch. At 2 pm we continued the last 2.5 hours to Noosa. Finally in Noosa we checked into the Nomads Hostel. Funny story it turns out I stayed here 5 years ago already, just didn’t recognize the hostel on Hostelworld 😅. Some food and we are ready for the evening. It will start with a welcome drink at the hostelbar. 🙉

    Nachdem wir heute mega früh aus den Federn gesprungen sind und uns von Byron Bay verabschiedet haben, machten wir uns mit dem Bus auf nach Noosa Heads. Da der Bus in Brisbane eine zweieinhalb stündige Pause einlegte, entschlossen wir uns in der Nähe des Busbahnhofs zu Mittag zu essen. Um zwei Uhr ging es wieder in den Bus und wir traten die letzten 2.5 Stunden Busfahrt an. Endlich in Noosa checkten wir im Nomads Hostel ein. Lustige Geschichte, es stellt sich heraus, dass hier hier vor 5 Jahren schonmal war und nur das Hostel auf den Bildern von Hostelworld nicht direkt erkannt habe 😅.
    Schlussendlich gab es was zu essen und wir waren bereit für den Rest des Abends. Statten wird dieser mit den Wilkommensgetränken an der Hostelbar 🙉.    En savoir plus

    Today we had a cloudy, rainy and „exercise-intense“ day in the National Park of Noosa. We walked 23.000 steps around 16 km in total. All the way from the hostel towards the Devils Kitchen Lookout. What a nice walk along the coast, with some nice rock pools (fairy pools) to swim in. Unfortunately the weather was super cloudy and rainy. We got back soaked of the rain. Good thing - we were wet anyhow so we jumped into the nice fairy pools for some good shots 📸.

    Heute hatten wir einen bewölkten, regnerischen und bewegungsintensiven Tag im Noosa Nationalpark. Wir absolvierten insgesamt 23.000 Schritte, was 16 km entspricht. Wir liefen von unserem Hostel bis hin zum äußersten Viewpoint des Nationalpark - dem Devils Kitchen Lookout - und zurück. Ein toller Weg entlang der Küste, vorbei an tollen Rockpools in welchen wir schwimmen konnten. Leider spielte das Wetter so gar nicht mit, es war bewölkt und regnerisch - klitschnass kamen wir zurück zum Hostel. Das gute daran, wir waren einmal nass, so machte es nichts aus in den frischen Naturpool zu springen und ein paar coole Fotos zu machen 📸.    En savoir plus

    Off to Fraser Island

    After the time in Noosa we took off to Rainbow Beach. We arrived in the evening and headed straight to bed, tomorrow is going to be a very early day starting with a safety briefing for Fraser Island. We can’t wait! Heads up: We will have no reception, so we will give you updates when we get back. See you in 3 days ♥️

    Nachdem wir einen weiteren Tag in Noosa verbracht haben, ging es mit dem Bus nach Rainbow Beach für unsere Fraser Island Tour. Wir kamen spät am Hostel an und packten nur noch unsere Daypacks für die nächsten drei Tage, bevor es ins Bettchen ging. Früh heute startete der Tag mit einer Sicherheitseinführung für Fraser.     Fraser Island Day 1: Lake Mackenzie

    At the safety Briefing we were devided into groups 1-4. Matthias and I were in Group number 1, therefore we jumped into car one. Each group was assigned to a 4x4 car and was allowed to drive themselves. A lot of driver-swops ahead! Everybody was keen on trying out a 4x4 Jeep Drive along the beautiful 75 mile beach of Fraser Island.
    After the groups were ready and we crossed over to Fraser Island by a short ferry ride, we started our way through the beautiful island towards Lake Mackenzie. Lake Mackenzie is a freshwater lake 80 meters above sea level formed and filled just by rain water. Hence Fraser is a “Sandisland”, the lake looks like the beautiful Caribbean Sea 🤩! So turquoise 😍.
    The weather was sunny and windy and absolutely perfect 🏝. We took pictures, met some nice people - three in particular (Mirjam 🇨🇭, Angela 🇨🇭und Madeleine🇩🇪) and started our Fraser Island Adventure.
    After lunch we took off for a long drive towards the camp. On our way we had a great join up with a pure Fraser Island Dingo (one of around 150 on the island). He was so nosy - used to people and their food - he circled around our trailer, knowing there was food inside.
    We were quite happy to be inside the cars, hence there were some bad meetings between dingos and tourists on Fraser in the past. Stupid people have been feeding them and so taking their general fear of humans and making them ask for more food - sometimes even in a harassing way.
    We continued the drive and got to the camp by 5 pm. With a good mood every group cooked their own dinner and was released to drinking, playing or whatever activity we wanted to do.
    The camp was “dingo free” with fences and electric wires on the ground to prevent the cocky dogs 🐕 from stealing our food and other stuff.

    Beim Safety Briefing wurden wir in die Gruppen 1-4 eingeteilt. Matthias und ich waren in Gruppe 1 und sprangen demnach in Auto Nr. 1. Jede Gruppe war einem Allrad Jeep zugeordnet und wir durften selbst fahren. Demnach staden sehr viele Fahrerwechsel bevor - jeder wollte einen 4x4 Jeep entlang des wunderschönen 75 Meilen langen Strandes von Fraser Island fahren.
    Nachdem die Gruppen sich gefunden hatten und wir mit einer kurzen Fährfahrt nach Fraser Island übergesetzt hatten, machten wir uns auf den Weg durch die schöne Insel zum Lake Mackenzie. Der Lake Mackenzie ist ein Süßwassersee 80 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel, der sich nur durch Regenwasser füllt. Da Fraser eine "Sandinsel" ist, sieht der See aus wie das Karibische Meer 🤩! So türkis 😍. Als hätte jemand Farbe ins Wasser gekippt.
    Das Wetter war sonnig und windig und absolut perfekt 🏝. Wir machten Fotos, trafen einige nette Leute - besonders drei (Mirjam 🇨🇭, Angela 🇨🇭und Madeleine🇩🇪) und starteten unser Fraser Island Abenteuer.
    Nach dem Mittagessen machten wir uns auf zu einer langen Fahrt in Richtung Camp. Auf unserem Weg hatten wir eine tolle Begegnung mit einem reinen Fraser Island Dingo (einer von etwa 150 auf der Insel). Er war so neugierig! Man merkte sofort, dass er an die Menschen gewohnt war - er kreiste um unseren Anhänger wohlwissend, dass doch dort Essen befindet.
    Wir waren sehr froh, in den Autos zu sitzen, da es in der Vergangenheit einige schlechte gefährliche Treffen zwischen Dingos und Touristen auf Fraser gab. Einige dumme Menschen haben die wilden Dingos gefüttert und so, nicht nur an die Menschen gewöhnt, sondern ihnen die Verbindung zwischen Mensch und Futter beigebracht. Seither belästigen einige Dingos die Menschen förmlich, teilweise sogar auf sehr dreiste Weise. Meine Meinung: absolut der Mensch Schuld!
    Wir setzten die Fahrt fort und erreichten das Lager um 17 Uhr. Mit guter Laune kochte jede Gruppe ihr eigenes Abendessen und wurde zum Trinken, Spielen oder anderen Aktivitäten, die wir machen wollten, freigegeben.
    Das Lager war "dingofrei" mit Zäunen umgeben und Stromkabeln auf dem Boden der Zufahrtsgitter, um zu verhindern, dass die aufsässigen Hunde 🐕 unser Essen und andere Dinge stehlen.    En savoir plus

    Day 2: Indian Head, Champagne & turtles

    The first night at the Camp was alright. Not too bad but not good either. After brekkie we took off to the most eastern point of Fraser: Indian Head. We had a nice view of the island and spotted some wildlife in the ocean.
    From the lookout we drove to Champagne 🥂 Pools. Two rock pools filled with ocean water. Again some relaxing time with our new friends and a quick photoshoot.
    After the pools Matthias was allowed to drive 😍. He had to drive all the way back to the camp in soft sand! Tough job! Like driving on snow.
    Last to do for today was another fresh water lake, but this time made from ground water. Little turtles where swimming in the lake 😍. All the way back to the camp, on deep soft sand inland with many curves and holes, I was allowed to drive the Jeep - and I was told I did an amazing job 🤪 (and yes by people who don’t know me! I was proud!). It was tough but also so much fun - like a truck going through anything that is in the way.
    The day ended with some card games and live music 🥰.

    Die erste Nacht im Lager war in Ok. Nicht allzu schlecht, aber auch nicht besonders gut. Nach dem Frühstück starteten wir zum östlichsten Punkt von Fraser: Indian Head. Von dort hatten einen schönen Blick auf die Insel und sahen sogar einige Meerestiere im Wasser.
    Von dort aus fuhren wir zu den Champagne 🥂 Pools. Zwei „Felstümpel“, die mit Meerwasser gefüllt sind. Wieder hatten wir eine entspannte Zeit mit unseren neuen Freunden und machten ein kleines Fotoshooting.
    Nach den Pools durfte Matthias fahren 😍. Er musste den ganzen Weg zurück zum Camp in weichem tiefem Sand fahren! Harte Arbeit, als würde man auf Schnee fahren.
    Als letztes für heute stand ein weiterer Süßwassersee auf dem Programm, diesmal jedoch aus Grundwasser bestehend. Sogar kleine Schildkröten schwimmen in dem See 😍. Den ganzen Weg zurück ins Lager, auf tiefem, weichem Sand mit vielen Kurven und Löchern, durfte ich den Jeep fahren - und mir wurde gesagt, ich hätte einen tollen Job gemacht 🤪 (und ja von Leuten, die mich nicht kennen! Ich war so stolz!). Es war hart, aber hat auch so viel Spaß gemacht. Es fühlt sich an wie ein LKW, der durch alles durchfährt, was im Weg ist.

    Day 3: Shipwreck & Tubing at Eli Creek

    Last night on Fraser Island and we barely got a wink of sleep. Not only was the "bed" without a pillow uncomfortable, no, we also (stupidly) forgot our homemade muesli in our backpack. Therefore a mouse ate its way through the tent and part of the daypack to get to the feast. Successful! Only that the little intruder grazed my foot and woke me up. Due to the big anger about our own stupidity and the insecurity with the hole in the tent, we could hardly make an eye out.
    Nevertheless we got up early to explore the rest of the island. First we went to the famous old shipwreck. The wreck has been on the coast of Fraser since 1935.
    After a few photos we went to Eli Creek for some tubing. So cool! With a tiretube, driven by the natural stream of the water, we foated along the creek😍. After a lot of fun in the Water we had to say goodbye to the island 😟 and had to go back to Rainbow Beach.

    P.s. the previous evening we had an encounter with a snake. She hung in the kitchen of the drivercamp (camp of our tour guide) completely relaxed 🤩.
    We also had a short look at the stars on the beach. As advised we left the camp with Dingo sticks and in a group. As soon as we were back through the gate of the camp, we saw a Dingo male behind us. He had followed us hoping for food 😳. We always looked around but neither saw him nor heard him 🐕.

    Die letzte Nacht auf Fraser Island und wir haben kaum ein Auge zu gemacht. Nicht nur, dass das „Bett“ ohne Kopfkissen unbequem war, nein, wir haben dämlicherweise unser hausgemachtes Müsli im Rucksack vergessen. Deswegen hat sich eine Maus durch das Zelt sowie einen Teil des Tagesrucksacks gefressen, um so an das Festmahl zu kommen. Erfolgreich! Nur das der kleine Eindringling irgendwann meinen Fuß streifte und mich aufweckte. Durch den großen Ärger über die eigene Dummheit und die Unsicherkeit mit dem Loch im Zelt, konnten wir kaum noch ein Auge zu machen.
    Nichtsdestotrotz ging es früh auf den Rest der Insel zu erkunden. Zuerst ging es zum alten bekannten Schiffwrack. Das Wrack ist seit 1935 an der Küste vom Fraser.
    Nach ein paar Fotos ging es zum Eli Creek für ein wenig Tubing. So cool mit einem Reifen durch den natürlichen Strom des Bachs angetrieben das Wasser entlang zu gleiten😍. Nach einer Menge Spaß im
    Wasser hieß es auch schon Abschied nehmen von der Insel 😟 und zurück nach Rainbow Beach.

    P.s. wir hatten am vorherigen Abend noch eine Begegnung mit einer Schlange im Drivercamp (camp unseres Tourguides). Ganz entspannt hing sie dort 🤩. Ausserdem haben wir am Strand kurz Sterne geguckt. Wie es uns geraten war, verließen wir das Camp mit Dingo Stöcken und in einer Gruppe. Kaum waren wir durch das Tor zurück im Camp sahen wir hinter uns den Dingo Rüden. Er war uns gefolgt in der Hoffnung auf Essen 😳. Und wir haben uns immer umgesehen und doch ihn weder gesehen noch gehört 🐕.    En savoir plus

    After a nice relaxing day with Mirjam and Angela in Airlie Beach yesterday, the for of us are now ready for the sailing trip to the Whitsundays. Luckily (well not really) the girls boat trip was cancelled and they were transferred to our boat 😍. So the four of us will stick together another couple of days! Can’t wait for the Whitsundays 🏝🤩.

    Day 2: Whitehaven Beach

    Waking up in the middle of the ocean! Just beautiful! 🤩
    After a nice tropical breakfast we took off to Whitehaven Beach. We wandered around, took pictures and enjoyed the stunning view and atmosphere of the Whitsundays.
    We returned to the boat for lunch and headed off to the two snorkeling spots. Swimming along the reef and seeing all kinds of corals and fish 🐠. Amazing!
    After snorkeling we started the night by watching the sunset, a nice dinner and good music. Some dancing, laughing and talking and the day was perfect.

    Aufwachen inmitten des Ozeans: das ist einfach ein unglaubliches Gefühl! 🤩
    Nach einem schönen tropischen Frühstück starteten wir die Reise zum Whitehaven Beach. Wir liefen herum, machten Fotos und genossen die atemberaubende Aussicht und Atmosphäre der Whitsundays. Zum Mittagessen ging es zurück zum Boot. Danach machten wir uns auf den Weg zu zwei Schnorchelplätzen. Wir schwammen am Riff entlang und sahen allerlei Arten von Korallen und Fischen 🐠. So toll!
    Nach dem Schnorcheln begannen wir die Nacht mit einem weiteren Sonnenuntergang, einem leckeren Abendessen und guter Musik. Etwas tanzen, lachen und quatschen und der Tag war perfekt.    En savoir plus

    Day 3: What a great time on Whitsundays

    All good things must come to an end... 🥺
    We had an awesome time on the British Defender with great people and a perfect vibe. Being on that sailing boat is definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
    We met people from Swizerland, Canada, America, Italy, France, Germany, England, Austria and Australia. So many different countries but all on the same page.
    Not just the crew was nice, the food they cooked was delicious, the places they took us were mesmerizing and the boat was just the right size for 25 (or more) people.
    Tonight we’re gonna have a little after boat party 🤩.

    Wir hatten eine großartige Zeit auf dem British Defender mit tollen Leuten und einer absolut perfekten Stimmung. Die Tour auf diesem Segelboot ist definitiv eines der Highlights unserer Reise!
    Wir trafen Leute aus der Schweiz, Kanada, Amerika, Italien, Frankreich, Deutschland, England, Österreich und Australien. So viele verschiedene Länder, aber alle auf einer Wellenlänge.
    Nicht nur die Crew war nett, das Essen war köstlich, die Orte, die sie uns zeigten waren faszinierend und das Boot war genau die richtige Größe für 25 (oder mehr) Menschen. Whitsundays 🥰.

    Goodbye friends and hello Maggie

    Yesterday we had to say goodbye to two awesome people we met in Rainbow Beach. Mirjam and Angela are heading to Cairns, whereas Matthias and me are on Magnetic Island (Aussie slang: Maggie) for the next two days. We had so much fun with the two girls that it feels kind of sad without them. We were together non stop the last two tours (Fraser and Whitsundays) and even in between and after those. We are looking forward to meeting them again in Zurich next year!
    But for now we at excited for Maggie, the Island full of Australian wildlife 🐨🏝.

    Gestern mussten wir uns von Mirjam und Angela verabschieden. Die beiden reisen weiter nach Cairns und wir zwei haben noch einen Zwischenstopp auf Magnetic Island (im australischen Slang: Maggie). Nachdem wir über eine Woche so viel Zeit mit den beiden verbracht haben und jeder Menge Spaß hatten, fühlt es sich ohne die beiden leer an. Ohne Pause haben wir zu viert erst Fraser, dann die Whitsundays sowie die Bustouren gemacht, wir freuen uns schon die zwei süßen in Zürich wieder zu treffen!

    Wildlife on Magnetic Island

    Maggie did not disappoint us! As promised we saw a wild koala at the Forts walk this morning 😍. So cute! He even climed up his tree for me 🐨. After the Forts Walk we went to Alma Bay, a beach close to the Rock Wallabies of Magnetic Island. We had to kill some time before the wallabies would be at the rock. They gather there late afternoon to enjoy the cooling air of the coast. Visitors are allowed to feed them some appropriate food - we fed them apples 🍎. We even saw a little joey 🦘😍.
    After the Wildlife experience we returned to our Hostel right at the beach. Unfortunately besides the great location the hostel is pretty dirty and disgusting.

    Maggie hat ihrem Ruf alle Ehre gemacht! Wie versprochen, sahen wir heute Morgen beim The Forts Spaziergang einen wilden Koala. 😍 So süß! Er kletterte sogar für mich seinen Baum hinauf 🐨. Nach dem Forts Walk fuhren wir zur Alma Bay, einem Strand in der Nähe der Rock Wallabies von Magnetic Island. Wir mussten uns ein wenig die Zeit vertreiben, bevor wir die Wallabys am Felsen sehen würden. Sie versammeln sich dort erst am späten Nachmittag, wenn es kühler ist. Die Besucher dürfen sie mit tiergrechten Früchten und Gemüse füttern - wir haben unsere Äpfel geteilt 🍎 und sogar einen kleinen Joey (Baby Känguru) gesehen 🦘😍.
    Nach dem Wildlife-Erlebnis kehrten wir in unser Hostel, welche direkt am Strand liegt, zurück. Leider ist das Hostel neben der tollen Lage ziemlich schmutzig und echt ekelhaft.    En savoir plus

    Hello Cairns

    After we had to wait 45 minutes for our bus and a 5-hour bus ride we finally arrived in Cairns. Cairns is our last stop in Australia, 4 more days and we will leave for Bali 😊.
    Our hostel here is the Global Backpackers- a very new hostel. So far we can’t say too much, besides that the room is quite small, but with a balcony. There was a little confusion with our beds (the shreds weren’t removed, so nobody could tell if they were free), but we’ll managed👌🏼. Now some food and then we’re done for the day.

    Nachdem wir zunächst 45 Minuten auf unseren Bus warten und dann eine 5-stündige Busfahrt hinter uns bringen mussten, kamen wir schließlich in Cairns an. Cairns ist unser letzter Halt in Australien; nur noch 4 weitere Tage und wir werden nach Bali aufbrechen 😊.
    Unser Hostel hier ist das Global Backpackers - ein sehr neues renoviertes Hostel. Bisher können wir noch nicht viel mehr sagen, außer, dass das Zimmer recht klein ist, dafür aber mit Balkon. Es gab beim beziehen des Raumes ein paar kleine Verwirrungen mit unseren Betten (die Laken wurden nicht entfernt, so dass niemand sagen konnte, welche Betten im Raum frei waren), aber wir haben uns einfach selbst geholfen👌🏼. Jetzt noch schnell etwas Essen und dann sind wir fertig für heute.    En savoir plus

    The Great Barrier Reef

    Today we did a diving / snorkeling tour to the famous Great Barrier Reef. We choose a 1-day tour with an instructor dive (because we don’t have a diving certification yet). The tour took us to a very beautiful spot of the reef! We were devided into groups of three, while some groups started their diving the others were allowed to snorkel. Matthias and me had to wait and this started with the snorkeling 😍. We saw turtles 🐢, tons of fish and nice corals 👌🏼 and took tons of videos and pictures. Very beautiful!
    After that it was our turn diving! Unfortunately we were the last group... we had just 15 minutes in the water.. my ear pressure was very bad.. but I endured it to make the most of it. Also my mask was absolutely fogged, I tried to fix it twice with the instructor, but it didn’t help.. to not destroy Matthias’s diving experience I just let it be 😂. One important thing, the crew told us there would be two spots for the day and that we weren’t allowed to bring the camera on our first dive, hence I thought the next dive i might see more! Bullshit! the tour we booked just included one dive, the other spot would cost another 60$ pp. We were pretty upset, because they didn’t tell us that until after our dive was finished. I’d never would have stopped cleaning my mask if I’d known that be my only chance.. we’ll, it is as it is.. not to happy we still enjoyed the day snorkeling at the second spot at the reef.
    Definitely go diving again (if my ears will play along though😭).
    We ended the day with cooking with a new friend Chrissi and going out for a hour dance for Halloween 👻.

    Heute machten wir eine Tauch-/Schnorcheltour zum berühmten Great Barrier Reef. Wir haben eine 1-tägige Tour mit einem Instructor-Tauchgang (da wir noch kein Tauchzertifikat haben) gewählt. Die Tour führte uns zu einem sehr schönen Ort des Riffs! Wir wurden in Dreiergruppen eingeteilt. Während einige Gruppen mit dem Tauchen begannen, durften andere schnorcheln. Matthias und ich mussten warten und fingen mit dem Schnorcheln an 😍. Wir sahen Schildkröten 🐢, tonnenweise Fische und schöne Korallen 👌🏼. Wir nahmen tonnenweise Videos und Fotos auf. Soooo schön!
    Danach waren wir an der Reihe zu Tauchen! Leider waren wir die letzte Gruppe und wir hatten nur 15 Minuten im Wasser... der Druck auf meinen Ohren war total beschissen... aber ich habe es durchgehalten, um das Beste daraus zu machen. Auch meine Maske war voll beschlagen. Ich versuchte sie zweimal mit dem Instruktor vom Nebel zu befreien, aber es half nicht... um Matthias' Taucherfahrung nicht zu zerstören, ließ ich es einfach sein und sah eben wenig 😂 . Eine doofe Sache, die Crew sagte uns, dass es zwei Tauchplätze für den Tag geben würde und dass wir die Kamera bei unserem ersten Tauchgang nicht mitbringen dürften, daher dachte ich, beim nächsten Tauchgang könnte ich diese dann mitnehmen! So en Quatsch! Die Tour, die wir gebucht haben, beinhaltete anscheinend nur einen Tauchgang (was uns natürlich keiner sagte), ein weiterer Tauchgang am anderen Platz würde weitere 60$ pp kosten. Wir waren ziemlich verärgert, weil sie uns das erst nach Beendigung unseres Tauchgangs gesagt haben. Ich hätte nie aufgehört, meine Maske zu reinigen, wenn ich gewusst hätte, dass das meine einzige Chance ist.... Nunja es ist wie es ist... nicht allzu happy, dennoch genossen wir den Tag beim Schnorcheln am zweiten Platz des Riffs.
    Auf jeden Fall werden wieder irgendwo auf der Reise tauchen gehen (wenn meine Ohren mitspielen).
    Wir beendeten den Tag mit Kochen mit unserer neuen Freundin Chrissi und damit für eine Stunde zu Halloween tanzen zu gehen 👻.    En savoir plus
