Temples 1-6, Tokushima

This pilgrimage visits 88 Buddhist Temples around Shikoku. The Japanese use a mixture of walking, car and public transport.

Temples 1-6 are close together so it's easy to visit them all in one day by walking, and tonight I'm in Temple 6's comfortable temple accommodation.

The walk was through small towns on the outskirts of Tokushima city.

On arrival at each temple there's a sequence of actions: bowing, washing hands, lighting candles and incense, saying sutras, ringing the bell and obtaining proof of prayer in a stamp book or calligraphy book.
