    After visiting Temple 23, as an alternative to a busy main road, I diverted to a quiet ravine-spanning coast road that promised ocean views, although 5km longer. Now and then monkeys loped across the road ahead of me.

    My minshuku accommodation is a very basic traditional Japanese family-run guest house with dinner and breakfast. Futon on the floor, tatami mats and the pillow feels like a bean bag, no WiFi but there is air-conditioning.

    At dinner, I tried everything. I loved the langoustines and raw fish, but couldn't eat the squid.    Read more
