• Race to the Med

    Sep 16–17, 2025 in France ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Another great breakfast sat by the pool with good chat. We set off along the canal which was single track and very bouncy, We came across the Malpas Tunnel that we had to go over the top of - Jim said that this tunnel was created in 1679 and is 169 metres long. The legend is that the canal builder was told to build locks over the hill and Maloas
Means bad passage on the sly he drilled the tunnel in only 1 week before the kings committee came to tell him it was a bad idea - you can read more here https://www.canal-du-midi.com/en/explore/along-…

We then got to Béziers which had the longest set of canal locks in France. We just stopped to take photos as it was too busy.

The path became an excelled tarmac path and we were going Ii. excess of 16 miles an hour on this stretch.
We stopped for a coffee but decided to keep going to get to Agde for lunch.

We arrived after 50km and had a very dodgy lunch note no photos of this.
We then cycled on to the coast so Helen could swim. it was so clear and warm. bliss !

When we got to the guest house we are the only ones here - no pool
But there was a jacuzzi and the lady who owns the house brought us wine beer and snacks.

Agde is not a pretty place
And we had dinner on a boat which was ok and a drink on the way back.
Now chilling ready for a short day cycling to Sete tomorrow
