  • It’s seriously only day ONE???

    18. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

First real day to settle in.
The girls crashed hard at 4pm and didn’t wake until 4am — meanwhile Dustin and I were wide-eyed by midnight, convincing ourselves to “rest” until coffee could be located, and the gym opened up!

Two hours at the rooftop pool was enough to introduce our very white bodies to the Thai sun… slightly crispy, but easing in 😅

The most Incredible Indian food to fill our bellies , you know we came to eat.

A Thai massage felt like the perfect reset after long travel days.

And how could you possibly walk passed… baby lions… it happened. A quick pit stop for cuddles, obviously. 🐯

Slowly syncing our bodies and minds to this place …. Until next time.

    Peace.

  • Quiet Days and Hidden Treasures

    20. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Yesterday was a quiet one as we’re still shaking off the jet lag. The mornings have been full of giggles around 5am, all of us wandering the apartment wide-eyed and ready to start the day long before the city wakes up.

We spent a few more hours at the pool, then Ava and I set out on a mission to book a head spa treatment and accidentally wandered into Old Town. What a place. It feels like a different world down there—ancient walls, tiny pocket storefronts, and the coolest handmade treasures tucked into every corner. We even found a thrift store that felt like stepping into another era. We’ll definitely be back to wander some more.

Breakfast at an old diner cost just $15 for all four of us, followed by a slow afternoon of family card games back at the apartment. An early night was the goal—we’re hoping for a solid sleep because this weekend’s adventures are shaping up to be life-changing.

    Stay tuned ✨

  • The Heart of the Jungle

    21. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

I’m going to do my best to unravel the last two days of my life here.

Early one morning, we were picked up from our Airbnb and driven out to meet two men who are now so fondly known in our family as Lah and MuMu. They greeted us with warm handshakes—something we’ve since learned isn’t always customary here. Most Thai people greet each other with a bow. This was their way of meeting us where we are, and it felt like the quiet essence of Thailand itself: kindness, gentleness, and respect woven into everyday moments. Repeated again and again, in almost every interaction.

    Anyway—back to Lah and MuMu.

As we were greeting each other, two giant elephants casually wandered past us. Totally caught us off guard. Lah smiled and said, “Oh yes, they roam free here. They do what they want. You can say hi.”

We stood there, sharing a moment with these gentle giants, completely in awe. Then we piled into their vehicles and headed deep into the jungle.

We stopped along the roadside, grabbed our packs, machetes, and water (the boys in flip-flops), and began our trek after meeting Lah’s wife at the trail entrance. She waited with the warmest smile and handed each of us a small offering—rice wrapped beautifully in a banana leaf—for well wishes on our journey.

Only moments into the hike, Lah began teaching us—through broken English—how his people live off the land. He showed us plants that hold water, leaves used as bandages, trees whose bark becomes medicine, and bugs we’d never seen before. Everything had purpose. Everything had a story.

Side note: I’d had a canker sore for days, so when we came across a tree that bled paracetamol, I was all in. He pressed the white paste onto my gums and the pain instantly disappeared. I didn’t even realize until the next day that the sore was completely gone.

    Wild. And so cool.

They led us to their favorite watering hole, where we ran into Lah’s youngest child and his friends. They were bursting with excitement, practicing their English—“Hello!!!”—taking pictures, sharing food. Together we prepared the most incredible soup using ingredients from their farms, cooked over fire, served in bamboo and banana leaves.

It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

After cleaning up, we swam in waterfalls, then continued on toward their home village. We walked for kilometers through stunning rice fields dotted with cows, chickens, cats, and dogs wandering peacefully through the land.

The little kids in the village were completely in awe of Sloane. They just wanted to stare and talk, even though we didn’t share a language. So it became smiles and giggles, high-fives and fist bumps. Pure joy.

We explored their farms, played with tiny puppies, saw coffee bean plants and watering systems, asked questions about how it all worked—and about their dreams for the future.

When we arrived at Lah’s home, we learned MuMu was actually Lah’s older son’s best friend. He’s learning the ropes because his dream is to become a guide—so he can teach others how they live.

The kids cooked for us again as we lay in hammocks, soaking in the scenery and settling into our accommodations. This place was magic.

My heart tightens when I think about the broken conversations—trying to explain our lives to each other with limited words. But I learned that some things don’t need language at all.

    Kindness.
    Generosity.
    Cooking with love.
    Wanting to provide.
    Dreaming.
    Gratitude for learning.
    Helping one another.
    Smiles.
    Hugs.
    Music.
And staring up at the stars in awe.

    That shit is universal.

    That’s what it’s all about.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude, to know my family experienced this together.

    ❤️

  • Walking with Wisdom

    22. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

The next morning , after Lah cooked breakfast over an open fire - he brought us to wear the elephants roam. Spent the day with them, and I don’t think my nervous system will ever be the same (in the best way).

We made medicine for them with plants from the land, walked alongside them through the jungle, played in the waterfall, and gave them giant sand scrubs. No chains. No commands. Just presence, trust, and time.

They were free to roam, babies tucked close to their mamas, moving at their own pace. Curious, gentle, playful. Truly just giant puppies — enormous dogs with souls as soft as their eyes.

Nothing forced. Nothing rushed. Just co-existing for a few hours with beings who carry so much wisdom in their quiet.

    I’ll carry this day forever.

  • Grandmas Cooking School

    22. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Today we spent the day at Grandma’s Cooking School in Chiang Mai, and it was so much more than learning recipes.

We wandered through the local market first — colors, smells, sounds — learning how food begins with the land and with care. Back at Grandma’s, the property was pristine. Everything cared for just-so.. like wandering through a secret garden. Everything slowed down. Hands in bowls, laughter in the air, herbs crushed and tasted, stories shared between strangers who felt like family by the 4th time we sat down to eat. I think we entered food comas 3 seperate times. This place was super cool. Our instructor spoke wicked English and was funny and let us engaged the whole time. 7 hours of eating and cooking.

Nothing rushed. Nothing fancy. Just simple ingredients, passed-down knowledge, and the quiet wisdom that lives in kitchens all over the world.

It felt like being welcomed into someone’s home — where food is love, learning is gentle, and everyone belongs at the table.

My heart (and belly) are very full. 🍃🥥

  • Trading in Snow for Street Markets

    25. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Tonight is our last night in Chiang Mai before heading back to Bangkok for the night, then catching an early flight out to the islands. The weather is looking a little less charming over in Koh Samui at the moment, but we’ve got plans to spend time with friends—so fun, beaches, and lots of laughter are still very much on the agenda.

Our Christmas Eve was spent wandering little markets, bartering for hilarious and thoughtful tiny gifts that could somehow fit into our backpacks for the next month — truly the best kind of holiday shopping.

For now, wishing a Merry Christmas Eve to our friends and family back in Canada 🇨🇦
We love you and miss you so much

  • Early Morning 🌴 Island Energy

    27. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

Vibrant yet relaxed, Koh Samui greeted us quietly this morning.
A 3:45am wake-up, cloudy skies, heavy humidity — and landing just as the town was stretching awake. All smiles, that early-morning slow start energy that makes everything feel new.

A small hiccup on the drive in reminded us how quickly things can shift —— but we’re grateful everyone was ok. Our bolt driver actually clipped a young girl on a scooter and tossed her to the street. Startling experience forsure.

Off to explore this island, gently. Waiting for our villa to be ready so we can settle in.

  • Sun , Salt and Humidity

    29. Dezember 2025 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Chiang Mai held our hearts gently — mountains, markets, quiet mornings, and the kind of warmth that sinks in slowly and stays. Tha place is so genuine and authentic , it really is capable of opening the hardest of hearts. It’s just so people oriented. Theyre thrilled to show you their way of life, and so excited when you choose them to let feed you.

Now we’re posted up in Lamai, letting the days stretch out slowly. 6000 steps on the beach before it’s filled with people. Salt air, bare feet, sun-warmed skin, and that deep exhale that only the ocean seems to offer. If you know us well, you know Dustin and I love to worship the heat and the sun. While yes, we’ve experienced some rain here - it’s safe to say, at 8am with 99% humidity , when the sun peaks out on the beach- it’s the hottest we’ve EVER felt. Just leaking from every pore sitting there for a minute.

From jungle paths to island tides —
same wonder, just a different rhythm.

  • Flip Flops and Fireworks

    2. Januar in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Happy New Year to all back in Canada !!

Firstly, im so sorry - but while you were layering parkas and debating road conditions, we rang in the New Year at a slightly oversized beach club party in Koh Samui—think 10,000 people, sand everywhere (including places it shouldn’t be), and the kind of chaos you only experience once and then talk about forever 🥳🌴

Yesterday was the perfect recovery: a lazy beach day, flip-flopping around, wandering with no agenda and nowhere to be.

All is very well on this side of the world, friends. Feeling incredibly grateful for the people we love back home and the chance to see the world a little differently for a while. Carrying you with us into 2026 and wishing you a year filled with good health, deep laughs, and moments that remind you what really matters 🤍✨

  • Moments aren’t planned. Theyre delivered

    3. Januar in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

The most important time never feels planned.
Old Fort Mac friends, different paths, same island, same moment. No schedules, no expectations — just shared music, food, games, and the kind of time that feels like it showed up for us. Hired a private boat to tour us around islands. Ko Rap was full of pigs, the crew danced and snorkeled and napped. It was pure enjoyment. From sun up until down.

No itinerary could have made that happen. Life scattered us, shaped us, pulled us into different versions of ourselves — and somehow still returned us to the same dock. Pun intended. A reminder that the bonds formed early don’t disappear; they wait. And when they resurface, it’s never loud or dramatic — just familiar, easy.

  • Cloudy Skies, and Sad Goodbyes

    4. Januar in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Soccer golf, speedway go-karts—just a day set aside for fun.
The cloud cover was a gift, letting us do things the sun wouldn’t normally allow.

It felt so good to move again after a few lazy days.
The very best way to spend our last day with Jesse and Mio… and to say goodbye.

    Yes, there were tears.
He waved back, yelling, “I’ll see you tomorrow!!!”—not quite understanding that it was time for us to part ways.

    That kid is special.
And so was our time together.

Leaving Koh Samui a little teary-eyed, and also looking forward to putting some steps on again with my husband.

The trip is starting to wind down, and the sighs feel deeper somehow.

Sitting at the pier now, about to board the speedboat ferry to Koh Phangan.

    Off we go.

  • After the Full Moon- Island Exhales

    5. Januar in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We arrived in Koh Phangan after boating over from Samui. Of course, we showed up early—always aiming to avoid any rush—and made a beeline for the top deck as soon as we boarded. Those boats are notorious for pukers, and my gang was not about to be taken down by a sick neighbour.

The views were unreal, and although my nerves were definitely awake (the middle of the ocean is not my favourite place to hang out), the crossing was quick, smooth, and absolutely gorgeous.

On our first day, we checked into our villa—and wow. It was stunning. Exactly what we were hoping for: quiet, still, tucked away in the jungle. A place to truly land. The rental was top-notch.

This island is known for its infamous Full Moon Party, which had wrapped up the night before, but surprisingly, everything felt calm and peaceful. Everyone just doing their own thing. We took a little wander to scout out hangout spots and places to eat and realized life here would be simple—minus the flip-flop hike down from our jungle villa.

After a fun, social week with friends, this slower pace was more than welcome. We started stacking steps, getting in morning runs, and hitting up the outdoor gym.

Such a rad spot to play cards, eat well, catch a hockey game, and post up for a few days.

  • Where giggles echo at night

    6. Januar in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Yesterday kicked off with an M-150 with Dustin—Thailand’s version of a Red Bull. Efficient. Powerful. Slightly unhinged.

Then I went for a morning jog with my girl. We were happily paraded by dogs coming from every alley and walkway, dipping in and out of Sloane’s and my run like they were pacing us. It kept things entertaining and helped distract us from the unrelenting morning heat. Thankfully, we veered onto quiet residential roads, shaded by massive jungle trees—absolute relief.

After cleaning up, we smashed a quick bite and hopped into Brain’s Jeep. Yes—Brain. Not Brian. Such a kind human. He took us to spots I’m pretty sure we never would’ve found on our own.

One stop was the island’s oldest tree. We touched her, watched locals bring offerings, pray, and wrap their arms around her. It was gentle and beautiful and grounding in a way that’s hard to explain.

Dustin and Sloane went snorkeling, we sipped fancy drinks on sky-high patios, crushed some unreal local Thai food, then wandered out again for late-night eats after showers.

Time with the fam has been so, so good. I love hearing the girls giggling in their room at night while I tuck into my husband’s arm.

    Life is good.

  • From Island time to City Lights

    8. Januar in Thailand ⋅ 🌬 26 °C

It’s been cloudy the last couple of days, so it’s probably safe to say the tanning chapter has come to an end. Instead, we’ve been playing cards, watching scary movies, ping pong and pool tables … oh and walking everywhere—all the time. Haha

Koh Phangan was such a gift. We slowed right down. Island time is a very real thing. We walk slower. Talk slower. Think slower. Eat slower. And somewhere along the way, it all settled into us.

Now reality is gently tapping us on the shoulder as we head back to the bustling city tomorrow. Catching a flight to Bangkok—Dustin and Ava are getting tattoos, while Sloane and I will likely wander, explore some markets, and sneak in one last Thai massage before the long flight home on Tuesday.

Grateful, full, and soaking up these final moments

That strange in-between space—where the adventure isn’t quite over, but your heart has already begun to pack itself up. • Spending time in the Big City

    12. Januar in Thailand ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Old Capital Bike Inn and Khao San Road feel like two completely different worlds that somehow coexist just minutes apart.

We chose to stay in this Inn just moments from the chaos. It is calm, thoughtful, and quietly charming. It feels like a pause button in the middle of Bangkok — leafy streets, creaky bikes leaning against the wall, and a sense that you’re being welcomed rather than hosted. Mornings are slow and intentional, with breakfast served like a small ritual instead of a rush. It’s the kind of place that makes you notice details: the light, the wood, the kindness of the people who run it. A soft landing in a busy city.

Then there’s Khao San Road — loud, chaotic, colorful, and unapologetically alive. Music spills out from every direction, street vendors call out, lights flash, and the whole road pulses with movement. It’s messy and fascinating, a collision of travelers, locals, curiosity, and energy. You don’t go there for peace — you go to feel the city buzz through your bones, even if only for a short walk.

Dishes of Scorpions , snakes and crocodiles being bbq’d in front of you. Endless markets to explore. And I do mean endless.
Last few hours of Thailand for us and we’ll be enroute to the homeland.

  • This Chapter, Gently Closed

    15. Januar in Kanada ⋅ 🌬 0 °C

The last couple of days have been a whirlwind. Bangkok was tied up with a beautiful bow as Dustin sat for a 17-hour tattoo in my honour—something I’m still in awe of. The strength, the intention, the depth of that gesture… truly overwhelming. Ava sat right beside him and got some ink of her own, absolutely giddy and glowing the whole time.

Travel day was long—manageable in the moment, but the jet lag aftermath has been real.

Honestly… it feels nearly impossible to sum up a trip of a lifetime.

As I sit here at home, sipping coffee, trying to wrap words around what the last month has meant, I find myself with tears in my eyes.

There were several mornings in Thailand where I’d open my eyes to birds (yes, even the roosters), the sound of a river flowing, my girls giggling, the smell of morning coffee, and the sight of my husband smiling, waiting for me to get up—and I was instantly overwhelmed with gratitude.

What an incredible gift it is to disconnect from schedules and reconnect with each other, with nature, with community, and with a shared sense of adventure.

We work very hard all year—and that month was our reward.

I couldn’t be more grateful to my husband for planning this trip for his girls, and to my girls for being the best fuckin’ travel buddies there is.

    Until next time, friends.

    I bid you adieu. 🤍
