Village Monmocillo

Loss of words for today’s adventures! One hour trip along the Rio Nanay —> 20 min Tuk Tuk ride along red dirt roads to the village of Momoncillo. This isn’t the village we came to serve but one that District is involved with along with La Libertad.
Arriving at the village, we were greeted by the villagers at the school that District built and kicked off the visit with prayer and thanksgiving. From there a “walk” to the main village area where we were able partake in educating them about seeds and gardening, and even provide them with a starter pack! (No one should have to guess that I was not a part of this… Succulents are my thang).
But after this it was time for some volleyball! Yep. Hat backwards and it was on like Donkey Kong. Well only as much as this 45 year old could muster in the heat and humidity. 🤪
From there some lunch (pork, rice and salad) and then kid activities; stickers, coloring and nail painting!
And… water fights!!! Kids loved this and it was a true testament to my growth and maturity that I did not pelt a kiddo with a water ball. #competitive #itsinmyblood. Then… God showed up and down came the rain!!! He wins again! We retreated to the covered area and came up with our exit plan. Once the rain stopped and the skies became azul again (pretty much fluent espanol) -> 3 x 3 we were Tuk Tuk’d out of the village. Slip sliding away… we went! Driver Rolando was a champion! We managed to avoid getting stuck. But we do have Jesus on our side, so there is that!
Final share for today before showers and dinner… Met the cutest little lady… she was standoffish when we first met but I wore her down and by the end of the day, she had a blue cross necklace and gave me a hug!! And not just any hug but a solid squeeze. Impressive courage since let’s just say the deodorant for many of us had expired for the day by now. 🤍
It’s been said that they think we come to help and provide for them but really … what they give us is more precious than we could ever provide or return to them. It’s pure joy from a simple life. Joy not from material things or money, but just simply embracing each and every day as it comes.
