    Jeff went to his work conference in Rosemont and I took the train into the city and walked around Chicago for awhile. I love Chicago. It’s casual, lots of visitors, and mostly people leave the city to go back to their neighborhood after work.Leggi altro

    Wicker Park

    Wicker Park is a very cute neighborhood 10 minutes outside Chicago off the Blue Line. Lots of great restaurants, cute stores, hip young people, bookstores, and a library. Oh, and look at that ceiling in Walgreen’s! We went to Paradise Park for dinner and I had a great salad with the perfect amount of dressing and Jeff had a tasty calzone.Leggi altro

    Chicago Day 2

    Jeff went to Day 2 of his show and I went into the city again. Conveniently, the hotel was only 10 minutes from the Sears Tower and Sydney said I should go there so I did. Then I came back to the hotel and met Jeff and we went to south side Chicago. OMG. Pretty scary, but mostly sad. So much poverty. We went to hunt down sites from the 1893 Columbian Exposition, but didn’t find much. Frederick Law Olmstead designed Jackson Park and despite its neglect, the bones he created are strong. So much potential, but unless things change, it will just go downhill more. Too bad our past president isn’t concerned about his past community. Chicago teachers have been on strike for eight days. Kids out of school. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised our Uber driver said people there don’t want the presidential library built there. 🤷🏻‍♀️Leggi altro

    Lincoln's Tomb and Home, Springfield, Il

    This morning we got to the train station just in time to get on ours to Springfield to visit with Manish and Manjarie. Manish picked us up and we went straight to Oak Wood Cemetery to see Lincoln’s Tomb. Drove around the cemetery a little bit then went to Lincoln’s home. It and the land and homes surrounding it are part of the National Park Service. We took a tour, walked around, then went home and helped Manish with dinner — traditional Nepalese momos, chicken and Book Choy.Leggi altro
