  • Blue Lake & Engelbrecht Cave

    24 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

I woke up around 7, packed up all, looking like rain is in the way. Then went for breakfast.
After that I got ready and left the Camp at 8:45am. First stop, Mt Gambier, South Australia! By leaving Victoria to South Australia I was "winning" 30 minutes as South Australia is in an other Timezone.
Just that 30 minutes is so weird.
I stopped at the Blue Lake. Pretty cool place! The water is really dark blue. You can't really see it in the pictures unfortunately.

Next up, the Engelbrecht Cave. Arrived there just in time for the 10 am tour. So I did that. Pretty cool to the the cave. It's a dry cavem no tripping water. Very cool!
Got a lot of information, to much to be honest.

Did a quick stop to buy some water and food and then I was off again.

  • Stick Tomato Cave - Naracoorte

    24 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Next up, Naracoorte area. An area with a lot of limestone caves.
Totally amazing. To bad I don't have so much time. I also arrived at a bad time, no tours going now so I went for the only cave that is able to visit without a tour, the Stick Tomato Cave.
Pretty cool walk around there. I really like this discovering under ther ground.
After that I had a quick lunch and hit the road again around 1:10pm. Still some hours and km left to drive.
Had to stop one more time to fuel up but managed to drive the rest at once!
Was obviously pretty warm on the way, up to 28 degrees. But windy, all the time windy.. I hate it!

  • Cape Jervis Campground

    24 marca 2023, Australia

I arrived at the campground in Cape Jervis shortly before 6 pm.
As I can put up my tent where I want to, I tried to find a spot as protected from the wind as possible. It's blowing like hell and should get even worst during the night. I am so tired of that fucking wind..

Got through my mail and saw, that my accommodation for the next two nights on Kangaroo Island was writing me, that they were running out of water. So I wrote back to them and decided to cancel the booking. As I should cancel it, I just get back a small amount of what I paid for it, not even have of it. So I wrote to the AirBnB Support and asked, if cancelling because of no water is a reason to get the whole amount money back. They were pretty fast in answering me and yes, I will get all back! Nice!
The AirBnB i booked instead, was writing, that they can't host me, because they need 5 days in advance to prepare. I wonder what..
I started to panic, as Hotels ECT are booked out or super expensive. Found another AirBnb that was okay with the price. It took some time for her to write to me.
Meanwhile I had dinner and noticed, that my car key is making problems. Can't open the trunk anymore and need to press a few times before it's locking or unlocking the car 😬 Great, exactly now. In the middle of nowhere with a ferry booked for tomorrow morning. I just wanted to cry.
At least I got the AirBnB booking confirmed. God what a relief!
The car key problem I have to solv tomorrow. Don't know how but it's already after 10pm and I will try to sleep.
My spot is pretty good. The wind is not moving my tent at all!

  • Seal Bay - Kangaroo Island

    25 marca 2023, Australia

I woke up aroun nd 7 am as the Galahs that ate around here seems to have a party in the trees around my tent.. 🙄
So I got up, tried a few times to unlock my car.. 😬 It was working in the end. So I got up to have breakfast. Talked to a couple that I already met yesterday. And told them about how bad my evening turned out. I wanted to call a garage on Kangaroo Island and ask them if they can help me with the key.
The couple said I should call the hire company first and asked them what I should do. Good Idea, so directly after breakfast I called Avis.
They wanted me to call Roadside Assistanc, so I did that and they could send some out to the campground straight away, so I will make it to the ferry in time! Awesome!
So I got ready, packed down everything and went to the entrance to meet them there. He arrived at 9:13am, me already nervous as I have to be at the ferry at 9:30am.. He was like, it's the key? Not sure if I can help you.
Well he had to Google how to open that stupid key and he managed to open it a d had even a new battery and everything is working as it should! Woho!
I didn't have to pay anything, even better and I was off to the ferry at 9:25am. Just on time as it's a 5 minutes drive to the ferry.
The ride over to Kangaroo Island takes 45 minutes and was a bit rough, but okay.
Went to the I-Side to pick up some information. The lady over there was really helpful, so I now have a pretty good plan for the next days here.
    First stopp, Seal Bay!
And how lucky I am, the sun is coming out and that makes everything so beautiful. Much better weather then it's supposed to be.
Well I don't think I have to mention the wind? Horrible, as usual.. But at least the sun is shining.
I did the Broadwalk, recommendation from the I-side lady, as you get closer to the sea Lions like this. There is also a guided tour on the beach, but you have to stay 10 m away from the sea Lions.
I had two right under the Broadwalk, not even 2 m away from me!
    Such a cool place!
Chilling seals, playful seals, hungry young once. They adults are 2-3 days out on the ocean before they return back to rest or feed their little once.
Met a lovely couple from England and we had a nice conversation.
Back at the car it was time for a short lunch break. Just a short one, still much on my to do list and traveling here is different and takes more time.

  • Cape du Couedic - Kangaroo Island

    25 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Next up, Cape du Couedic. I parked the car at the lighthouse carpark and was going for the roundwalk around the lighthouse to some lookouts and down to the Admirals Arch. Nice to move a little bit after the last days in the car.
Beautiful walk, bit the wind is horrible here.
It was blowing so much, that I had problems to take pictures from the first lookout. Totally crazy, so beautiful sky ans sun and then that horrible cold wild.
I saw a lot of seals on the rocks. They are everywhere. These are Australian fur seals.
It's such a beautiful place to walk around. I really love it here!

  • Remarkable Rocks

    25 marca 2023, Australia

I did a short stop at Weirs Cove, but for me it was nothing special. So I went on to the Remarkable Rocks.
That is such a cool place!
Hard to describe. You are allowed to walk around the rocks. Totally crazy.
Without the wind I could stay here longer.
But it's already late a at least 1 1/2 hours drive to Kingscote. So it was time to hit the road.
I can say I made the best of the day!

I arrived at my AirBnB in Kingscote shortly before 7 pm. Nice place, way to big just for me, but I have all I need here!
Took q shower, cooked dinner and was relaxing info of the tv for the rest of the evening, wasn't long. Was super tired and went to bed around 9:20pm.

  • Reeves Point

    26 marca 2023, Australia

I woke up around 8:30am. No stress today, it's raining today. I heard it started to rain shortly before 6 am. So there is nothing planned for today. So I took it very easy this morning, had a good breakfast and as it was stopping to rain for a while I decided I can do some exploring around the town. Just not to far way in case it's starts raining again. And the weather forecast says, there is a lot more to come 😅
So my first stop was at Reeves Point. I was walking around here a little bit. It's also an historical side but I was not going for all the spots and signs.
It's still dropping a little bit every now and then.

  • Emu Bay & Lavender Farm

    26 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Next up, Emu Bay. Beautiful beach, home to some penguins over night. I walked around the beach little bit, watching and wondering why the police was driving over the beach. When I felt the first drops, I turned around again and went back to the car.

As it was not really starting to rain yet I stop at the Lavender Farm on the way back to my place.
I love the smell of lavender. A few was still blooming but most have been cut down already.
On the way back it started to rain. I was back in Kingscote around 12:30pm.
As it was just dropping a little bit I was thinking I might do something more. But in the end I stayed at my place and that was good. Around 2:30 it really started to rain like hell.
So I had a nice nap on the couch instead of going and explore something. Also really nice.

    26 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

As the rain stopped again in the evening I went for a short walk to the corellas. I can here them from my AirBnB all the time.
There are hundreds of them and getting even more all the time. So amazing!
Went back after a while and was cooking dinner and had a relaxing evening. It was raining like hell later in the evening and during the night. Good I am not sleeping in my tent. 😅🙄

  • Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park I

    27 marca 2023, Australia

    I woke up around 7:30am.
No more rain but it is super cloudy and grey outside. Had breakfast, packed my stuff, cleaned up after myself and left shortly before 9 am. Lot to do today!
Plan was to drive to Cape Borda. But it was foggy out there. So I changed my plan and started with the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park. Was there just as they open up at 9:30am .
So I was walking around the park for 2 1/2 hours . The encounters could be bigger but they are taking in a lot of injured animals all the time. After the horrible bushfire 19/20 they build a vet clinic and huge hospital for all the animals. They took in almost 1000!! Animals and took care of them and managed to release quite a few back into the wild. So they are really doing a good job. That's way I am here.
And it's a good way to get some close up pictures.
You can feed the kangaroo and wallabies. That was funny but they are holding tid onto your hand. 😅 And they have claws!

  • Cape Borda

    27 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Next up on my plan was Cape Borda. I knew I gonna need to drive over a gravel road for a bit to get there. But it was 30 km each way and the last 15 was not good. Had to drive really really slowly and was a few times thinking I maybe should turn around.
But I didn't and I was very lucky to spot a huge eagle on the side of the road. Just couldn't stop there but it was massiv. And I have met a few people, that really wanted to see one, but never did! So I am lucky!
Shortly before I reached Cape Borda I had a group of 10-15 yellow tailed black cockatoos flighting from the trees right in front of my car and stayed in front of me for like 2 minutes. That was sooo cool!

When I was finally reaching Cape Borda I went for a walk around the lighthouse and saw some Wallabies.
I did even the Clifftop Walk down there to the Cliff. Nice and easy. Weather is pretty okay now. Even a little bit of sunshine I got every now and then.

  • Stokes Bay

    27 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Next up, Stokes Bay. Didn't really know what to expect here, but it was blowing me away!
Nice beach with some cool rocks.
I even saw a pelican in the distance.
Then I noticed people going back from the rocks. So I went there and had a look.and there is actually a path through this rocks. Pretty small at some points but still good to pass through.
And the other side was just blowing me away. What a beautiful beach with amazing cliffs and cool rocks also at the other end of the beach. Did a walk to the other end of course and one the way back I even saw a little cave in the cliffs. So cool!
From here I went straight to the campground for tonight. Because I need to be there until 5pm.
    I arrived at 4:57pm 😅
Driving here takes time. I underestimate it again.
    Nice campground in the wild.
Had some nice talks during cooking and dinner with two older couples and as they where leaving another couple came to the campkitchen and we had another lovely talk for over 1 hour.
All's Aussies, all traveling around for a few month to maybe years.

  • Kangaroo Island Ocean Safari

    28 marca 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today I went on a tour with Kangaroo Island Ocean Safari.
I hope to swim with dolphins and seals 🤞
Unfortunately the weather is not so good, it's very cloudy and it is raining every now and then. We quickly found a pit of dolphins and went in the water with them. We were supposed to hold onto a long line that was behind the boat, but the dolphins came never really close to us so we should let go and swim towards them. It wasn't super successful for me, but I saw a few at least.
We watched them then from the boat, what was much better! The visibility in the water is not good today.
After that we went to the seals but unfortunately they didn't feel for a swim with us and stayed on the rocks. The crew really tried to get them motivated but no chance. That's ok, it's wild animals and they do what they want to do.
It was anyway a nice tour in shit weather 🙈😅

  • Prospect Hill

Last stop before the ferry, Prospect Hill!
I was motivated enough to walk up all the steps to the top to enjoy the view!
Then I went to the ferry and arrived in Cape Jervis when it was already almost dark. Qi
Quick shower and dinner and that was all. I hope I got a good spot to protect my tent a little bit from the wind.. We will see.
