  • James Irvine Monument

    20 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Next stop was at the Jane's Irvine Monument.
I stopped here basically because I needed a toilet but the waves here are so massive and scary that I had to watch them for a while. No one out there surfing. Guess that means, it's to dangerous out there! Crazy so crazy.
The wind ist still as strong and not getting any better.
    Not so funny

  • Bay Of Islands

    20 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Last stop was a few stops at the Bay of Islands! And I can say, it took me almost 6 hours to travel and see and walk to all the sights I saw from the helicopter within 10 minutes.
    Totally crazy.
From here it was still a 40 minutes drive to Warrnambool where I will spent the night. Hopefully more protected from the wind and with more sleep. 🤞

  • Pickering Point & Merri Island Lookout

    21 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Woke up to a grey sky. And it was just starting to rain.. Was hoping it's just a short shower but I was raining all the morning. So after breakfast I was packing a totally wet tent in the car, what should I do.
Went down to the ocean for a short walk from Pickering Point over to the Merri Island Lookout. Beautiful place also with still some raindrops here and there.
Easy walk. In Merri Island are also some Blue little Penguins living and here they even breed twice a year because they have such a good food source here.

From here I went to buy some food and then I was hitting the road to The Grampians.

  • Tower Hill Peak Climb & Lookout

    21 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

On my way to The Grampians I stopped at a lookout I was passing. Totally fascinating.
It's like a crater with a lake in it an in the lake is a huge island. I was so fascinated that I was googling it and found out it's a wildlife reserve.
So I had to go there!
Went down to the entrance road and stopped at the first stop, the Tower Hill Peak climb.
Extremely steep but just a short walk up the hill with a nice view over the crater. And it's not raining anymore 🥳

  • Tower Hill - Lava Tongue Broadwalk

    21 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

I went to the main carpark and had a look on the information board. Decided to do the Lava Tongue Broadwalk as I was not feeling for a long walk, when I still want to have time in The Grampians.
The walk was easy. Through a lake and then a part passing through a forest. And I was lucky enough to spot some koalas in the way 😍
Totally I saw 4 koalas on the walk.
    So cool.
After finishing the walk I went back to the carpark and bumped into an emu. Nice, haven't seen one on this trip so far. As I was driving to the exit I saw one more koala in a tree. Sooo cool! They make me happy, even though I am tired and a little bit unmotivated today.

  • Mount Abrupt Walk

    21 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

As the lady in the I-Side highly recommend this walk, I had to do it.
Its just a short drive from the I-Side to the carpark.
I started the walk at 2:18pm.
Motivated, don't know where this came from now.
The first bit was good. Uphill but in a nice way, no steps or so. So I made my way up pretty good, but after a while it got steeper and more and with more steps. After a while I wonder what the hell I am doing here. Gaining hight with every step, had to stop more often.
After 35 min I reached a sign, marking out, I made it half way up! I did a 10 minutes break here, to eat a wrap and rest a little bit.
Then I kept going. In the second part of the track were some flat parts, even shorter downhill sections as I had to climb up 3 hills so to say.
I made it up to the top after 1 hour and 20 minutes! Pretty good I think! I am happy with it.
It's blowing pretty cold up here so I couldn't stay so long to enjoy the view even though I was putting on a pullover straight away when I reached the top.
Took some pictures, enjoyed the 360degrees view and after 5 minutes I started the walk down the hill again.
Took me 1hour to get back to the carpark. So I made the whole track in 2:20h. 💪
3,3km one way, almost 500m elevation change per way.
From here I went straight to the campground in Halls Gap enjoying a hot shower, and just relaxed and enjoyed the sun that is finally out and it good nice and warm.

  • Road to The Grampians

21 de março de 2023, Austrália

From Tower Hill I drove straight to the Grampians. I only stopped at the I-Side in Dunkelt for a quick toilet stop and to grab a map and get some advise which walks are good.
The lady in the I-Side recommended me to to the Mount Abrupt Walk. And all the walks in the center of the Grampians. There is so much to do, I think I could spend weeks here easily.
Here are some picture from the drive to The Grampians and through the Grampians to Halls Gap.

  • Clematis Falls & Chatauqua Peak

    22 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

I got up around 7:30am. I have a massive day in front of me, so I had a good breakfast, prepared some wraps for lunch and packed some müslibars and crackers.
I went to the reception to confirm that I want to stay one more night, already asked them yesterday, if it's possible.
First up, the Chatauqua Peak Loop, a 5,6km circuit.
I started the walk around 9:50am.
I was greeted by many kangaroos. Some stopped on the track and I had to wait for them to move. So cool, I came really close to them or better, they came pretty close to me.
When I reached the first stop, the Clematis Falls, unfortunately without water, I knew it's a seasonal waterfall, I met a girl and we started chatting end was ending up walking together for the rest of the circuit.
Next up was Chatauqua Peak. A, compare to yesterday, easy climb up the hill. More flat, not so many steps and definitely not as steep as yesterday.
We were finding our way up, what got difficult in the last part as we had to climb over rocks to reach the peak. And we are high up and it's a steep drop on our left and right hand side! 😬
I was so glad we made this part together, so we had an eye on each other.
    She also said that!
Together we made it to the end! So beautiful up here, just some annoying bugs out here.
We had a short break up here and then returned. How can the same track looks so much worst on the way back? 😅
How did we do it? I can't believe it. Totally crazy. Back at the circuit track, we continued to the next stop.

  • Bullaces Glen & Venus Bath

    22 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Next up was Bullaces Glen, a waterfall with a little little bit of water. Yeah!
It's a really nice walk around this forest here. Much to see on the way and we also go had much to talk about.
I am so happy about Kiki's company. As she has been here already 7 times she gave me a lot of tips, which I really appreciated.
Next up was the walk to the Venus Bath.
We saw some cool rock formations already on the way but the last metres to the Venus Bath were stunning! Unfortunately some families with many kids arrived just before us so we just stayed a few minutes and then went for the last part of the walk back into Halls Gap.
We made the whole circuit in 2:30 hours, easy with breaks and no stress.
We said goodbye and I was off to the next carpark. Got stuck in a roadwork and had to wait 30 minutes to pass it. Sucks..

  • The Pinnacles

    22 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Next up, the probably most famous walk in the Grampians, The Pinnacles Walk, from the Sundial Carpark. There a two ways to walk to the Pinnacles, I choose the easier one, just 110m elevation change instead of 295m.
After yesterday I need to take it easy. Also Kiki said, this one is the way to do it!

It was a really nice walk! Just one steep part the rest was pretty easy. The view was beautiful up there! I really loved it! And the weather is so good! Just got a little bit cloudy as I reached the top, but that means also, it's not to warm.
I had a nice lunch break up here and got ready to go back to the car for the next part with new energy!
At the steepest part, I met a group of Chinese people, asking if it's a lot left to walk. Well yes, you have done just like 1/3 part of the track so far, max. Oh they wasn't very happy about that, but what should I say. I tried to motivated them with telling them that this is the steepest part and it's easier after this section. Don't know if it was working.

  • McKenzie Falls & Cranages Lookouts

    22 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Next up on my list was the McKenzie Falls. Unfortunately just today and the next two days the track to the base of the falls and to the Fish Falls, which I also wanted to see is closed due to construction work at the base of McKenzie Falls.
So I could just do the short walks to the McKenzie Falls Lookout and the Changes Lookout.
I even saw one emu here!

  • Broken Falls Lookout

    22 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Also from the carpark you can walk to the Broken Falls Lookout.
Pretty cool but hard to see because the trees are pretty tall and in the way. Was discussing this with an older couple I already met at the McKenzie Falls Lookout. Together we found a little path down the hill to a rock from where you had a beautiful view over to the Broken Falls.
    That's the view we wanted!
Must have been a platform here too at some point. You can see some wood and metal left around.
I was feeling, that my muscles starting to get really tired and the left knee wasn't very happy too. So I decided to just do some shorter walks and then that's it.
    I mean I did a lit today!

  • Splitters Falls

    22 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Last one up, the walk to Splitters Falls.
Oh I was already so tired and finished, but I made it anyway. And it was worth it. Cool walk! Just a little bit to much downhill on the way to the waterfall, so I hade to made my way back up the hill. That was almost to much.
After this walk I went back to Halls Gap. A nice hot shower was very needed!
I was then resting a little bit, talked to my neighbors for tonight, went cooking and had dinner and was straight to bed after that.
Mission accomplished! Just shorter walks left for tomorrow morning!

I walked around 14 km today!

  • Reed Lookouts

    23 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

I woke up around 7 this morning, the night was better than expected, my muscles didn't hurt as much as I was thinking they will.
As it is extremely cloudy outside and my weather apps said, that there might be some rain now this morning I got up and packed all together, so the tent is dry in the car and not wet. Was sitting in the car for a while to really wake up.
Then I got changed and had breakfast. Ieft the campground around 9:30 am and drove to the Reed Lookout. From here you have a beautiful view over a valley. And here is even the sun shining. So cool.

  • The Balcony

23 de março de 2023, Austrália

Next up the short walk to the Balcony. I think I was a 2km return track. Nice flat walk, just what I need today.
Beautiful view also from here. Good way to start the day!
From here I drove over a pretty scary road to Silverbend Falls. If I would have known, that it's a one way road I would be so scared to meet another car 🙄😅Leia mais

  • Silverbend Falls

    23 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

The walking track to Silverbend Falls was closed. But as I saw many people walking it anyway I also did it.
Nice easy walk, just a part almost at the end was tricky, impact from a flooding I guess. But just like 50 m and when you are careful you can pass it easily.
    Nice little waterfalls.
No it's time to hit the road and drive all the way to Portland. I stopped in Dunkeld again, toilet break and I felt for a pie. So I went and bought one.
And then I was back on the road.

Arriving in Portland I made my way straight to the Blacknose Point.
Man it's blowing like hell, again..
Stupid wind. I didn't miss the wind in the Grampians.
    Nice little spot here.
Went a few minutes to the Gannets Colony from here. . Wasn't expecting it to small Soo bad here.
Huge colony of Gannets. You can't get really closed to them. Could just see them from a viewing platform a bit away. Didn't stay so long the smell was to bad. .

  • Bridewater Blowholes & Petrified Forest

    23 de março de 2023, Austrália ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Next up the Cape Bridgewater withe the Bridgewater Blowholes and the Petrified Forest.
Extreme amazing place! The coast ist amazing and the area looks a little unreal. The wind was horrible here, but I anyway walked a round here for like 40 minutes.
Decided then, that I want go for the 2 hour walk to the seal colony, maybe I do it tomorrow. So I went back to Portland to the campground, got some laundry done, showered and went to cook.
Ended up with a group of cyclist. Really nice company for the evening.
I am not going on the walk to see the seals tomorrow, they told me I will see a lot of them on Kangaroo Island.
So the plan tomorrow is: drive all the way to Cape Jervis, ca 650km. I have to, I am running out of time and I wond some days on Kangaroo Island.
