Day 3 - Port Campbell to Gellibrand

    December 29, 2019 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Started the day in Port Campbell but got up reasonably early as we had to pack and check out. After a quick breakfast in the town (Danish and Cappuccino) we headed east aiming for the Great Otway national park. Before that we stopped at Gibson’s steps where you can walk down some steps onto a lovely beach and from there get quite close to one of the 12 apostles. Following that we then drove to the “Otway Fly Treetop” adventure. After parking up and a short walk we paid to enter the attraction. After about 1km of mainly downhill walking we reached the raised walkway. The raised walkway went quite high above the rainforest floor – around 30m. At the highest point, up a spiral staircase to the top of the tower, we were level with the tree tops which were pretty high. By the time we got back to the visitor centre it was lunchtime so we had a quick lunch of chicken wraps. After lunch we drove for about 2km down a track to the car park above the Triplet falls. From the car park it was a short walk (less than 15 minutes) to the main waterfall. We returned on the same path – normally there is a loop but it was storm-damaged so was closed. From there we then drove to Gellibrand as we’d booked a “bungalow” in the Otway Tourist Park. The bungalow was a bit old-fashioned but quite clean and air-conditioned which was essential as it was now 36C. We unpacked and relaxed, the key excitement was watching a video of Laura doing a sky dive in New Zealand. In the late afternoon we drove North past the town of Colac to a volcanic region – the views from the “Red Rock Lookout” were quite interesting. Finished the afternoon with a quick swim in the pool.Read more
