    Port Arthur's convicts

    Acting all touristy we walked around an old, well-preserved convict site with an expensive ticket in an orange string around our neck and the camera over the shoulder all day. Convicts were send here when no where else was suitable, and escape was impossible. Some were helped back into accepted society, some were a lost cause and kept isolated for years after multiple attempts to escape or stealing the wrong persons shoes. Quite a few people have lived and developed a large town there, but at some point the balance tipped, and more old and crippled than working convicts remained, hence the city shot down, turned into a tourist attraction.Read more
