    Huế, the Imperial Citadel

    8 Nisan 2023, Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Huế, the former imperial capital of Vietnam, countains the treasures of Vietnam's royal history and has an interesting blend of bustling streets and tranquil settings. 🇻🇳🪷

Duc took us for a tour of the Imperial Citadel - this fortress houses the Imperial City and the citadel-within-a-citadel, the Forbidden Purple City. This icon was almost completely destroyed during the Vietnam/American War, and the ruins and holes left by bombs are a reminder of the destruction caused.

The group went out for a homecooked meal but we fancied strolling around Huế and having some European food to sooth our stomachs before a long train journey the following day. We ate in a Bistro called La Carambole, I had tuna steak 🐟🥕. Dave bought some clothes (his now classic beige cargos) 🛍️, prices and quality were great and I went for a scalp massage💆🏻‍♀️ (which involved pulling my hair and knocking at my skull). Our aim to have an early night was sabotaged by some live singing 🎤 literally outside our hotel (Parkview Hotel)! But the earplugs worked very well.
