7Eleven brekky was like a buffet for kings! Train into Akihabara District on the other side of Tokyo. Biggest Tech store in the world, morning tea of matcha icecream and fruit pancakes. Harry’s Zoo was enjoyed by all, petting meerkats, hedgehogs, ferrets and Arctic foxes. Lunch was ordered from a vending machine, another train was boarded to enjoy the beautiful Scientific art museum (Team lab Borderless). Evening train with all the workers back to the hotel. Dinner was enjoyed at a local restaurant, then back for a well earned rest and bed. 18,000+ steps! Phew.

    The journey through tokyo

    7. syyskuuta 2024, Japani ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

The world’s largest radio signal tower. The crazy shibuya crossing, delicious Starbucks and a gigantic rabbit warren of shops under the Tokyo train station. This morning we jumped on a train to the Tokyo tower. We went to the top deck that was 330M tall and had an amazing view. For lunch we went into a gyoza restaurant. We ate our gyozas. But the thing that stood out the most was the horse that we ate. It had a bland taste and didn’t really taste like anything. The restaurant was amazing. 10/10 recommend. Would eat again. Next we went to the hectic shibuya crossing. There were so many people. After walking on it, we went into a Starbucks. It was amazing and tasted magnificent. The beverages were good and we had a very nice person who took our order. Then, we went into the Tokyo train station to go into the shopping mall under it. There were so many things from food, to camping gear. There was a huge array of food to choose from like wagyu, unnatural extremely large fruit, bread and millions of sweets, cakes and Mochi.next we watched people make rock candy. It tasted good and was still warm. Now we are back home for a delicious meal of 7 eleven food👍. From your amazing narrator Hayden.😮‍💨🥸🤯🤗🤩🥳🥱Lue lisää

  • Watching half naked men wrestle -yay!

    8. syyskuuta 2024, Japani ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Islah’s birthday! Started off by unwrapping her presents, with wrapping paper made up of travel brochures and advertising! Set off at 8:30 for the train, where we then arrived in Akihabara at the national sumo arena. For 6 hours we watched half naked men wrestle, and made friends with the family behind us ( baby pictured above). Watching the sumo was awesome, with lots of yelling, throwing and smacking. Towards the end bets were placed on who the winner would be, with Hayden somehow raking in the big bucks. After finishing the day of sumo wrestling we caught a train back, and walked to the “ super hotel” where we were staying. During this walk Bryce led us in the wrong direction by 1km, where we had to witness furrys walking the streets of Japan. We finished the night off with 7 eleven dinner, then made our way back to the hotel for an early night. Mum, Islah and I went to the girls only Onsen, where there was a lovely spa mirror station. Islah and I had soft drinks back in our room, then went to sleep on our uncomfortable bean pillows. A nice end to Islah’s 12th birthday 🥳
Fun fact : apprentice sumo wrestlers have to wipe their sensei’s bums 🤗

  • Kanazawa and (boys 1st Onsen)

    9. syyskuuta 2024, Japani ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Up this morning to some very tired and disheveled individuals at 0730- 15 min to get ready and head on downstairs for bfast. Scrambled, boiled, some crumbed thing that might have been seafood, cook meatball in veg and noodle, mixed steamed Asian veg, pastries, about 5 weird tasting soft drinks, miso/beef/corn soup, fruit, yoghurt, fresh banana smoothie. Then walked to Akihabara train station for Tokyo train- got lost at Tokyo station trying to find the Shinkansen booking area. Then boarded the 0956 Shinkansen to Kanazawa- 396km as crow flies and took 2hr 45 min with 3 stops. Kids vegged out- read/looked out window & IT on phone. Shopped at store in Kanazawa station and awesome entry/exit to station and even had the digital time and date presenting on a water feature. 18 min walk to Onyado Nono Kanazawa Natural Hot Spring hotel, all wheeled luggage had to have wheels cleaned on mat before being allowed entry as well as all shoes off and placed in a shoe locker in foyer. Rooms are awesome and Onsen opens at 1500 and had to dress up for the occasion- hotel pj’s- mmmmmm sexy indeed. Girls to girly Onsen and boys to manly one. Boys not sure about undressing in locker area and maintaining towel over nether regions and bathing on kiddie stools. Then off we went to 40degree, 43 degree bathing and rock pools, two large pot pools a sauna and a 4 degree bath when all too hot. Absolutely bloody sensational relaxing time for all concerned when finished after 1hr 20 min. Dressed and off to a sushi restaurant 5 set menus and couple of extras afterwards for total of 17780 Yen- around $180- bloody beautiful- apart from Islah who won’t eat raw seafood( or any seafood really- don’t know where she gets that from). And now back in hotel for a scotch night cap with my beautiful wife.

  • The Days We Captured Kanazawa

    10. syyskuuta 2024, Japani ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Today we went to the Omicho Markets where there was seafood galore!! We also tried Wagyu Beef, sea urchin and eel liver, you might think that the prices are high in Japan but they are actually pretty good for what you buy and what you get. The different types of seafood, meat and drinks are also amazingly delicious, tasty and cheap. And that was just in the day!! During the afternoon we hired some electric bikes and rode to an amazing park and castle from the samurai ages when Japan had Emperor and Empress, it was amazing. Next we rode to dinner on our E-bikes and had the most delicious food ever, and 10/10 would eat again. Definitely the most amazing and delicious dinner I have ever had in Japanese dinner.

  • Kanazawa to Nagano

    11. syyskuuta 2024, Japani ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

We woke up in Kanazawa heading to an early onsen to freshen up. We then walked to the samurai district and headed up a shopping street hoping to find some delicious breakfast but it was all closed even though it was 10:00. After our leisurely stroll through the district we went back to the hotel and grabbed our half broken suitcases and walked on over to the train station. We hopped on a Shinkansen to Nagano which was an hour and a half. We then took a bus for half an hour and found our hotel. We then got prepared for an alkaline Roman bath/onsen which smelt like sulfur but was really good. We had an amazing dinner and after that we found a small bat flying around our floor and it scared our host so much but we managed to catch it and release it.

  • Nagano

    12. syyskuuta 2024, Japani ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

This morning we had a lovely breakfast, well, it’s actually western which is a bit disappointing, but that’s ok. Onsen again before heading it for the day. We actually have almost the entire Ryokan (hotel) to ourselves as it’s off-peak, so it’s nice and quiet. There’s only 2 other couples staying here (who we haven’t even bumped into).

We headed out to do our washing at the local laundromat. Not really sure if we even had washing detergent added to the load, as there was no way to purchase detergent! Some machines we have seen add the detergent automatically during the wash, but not really sure if this was the same. Oh well. While we waited for the washing g, we sat in the adjoining cafe and had Takoyaki, pancakes, bubble tea, curry bread and Chris ordered a Weiner Coffee. Now, that was a bold order as we had no idea what it was going to be, but all worked out fine as it was just coffee topped with cream (Vienna coffee).

We walked to the Information centre to grab some local cycling maps and headed back to the hotel.

The rest of the afternoon was quite chilled. We had to move rooms as our Aircon broke, kids watched tv and read some books.
The kids and I went for a ride along the river while Ciennah jogged. It was nice to get lost in the little town and work our way back to the hotel. We fed the Carp fish and headed to our dinner banquet- my favourite part of the day!
Plenty of beautiful sashimi, tempura and pickles.

Another lovely day in Nagano (Chikuma).

    Exploring Nagano

    13. syyskuuta 2024, Japani ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

    Exploring Nagano

This morning we got out of bed to a delicious cooked breakfast and went on our way to a shrine. We had a staff member from our hotel drive us around Nagano to the shrine. There, he showed us all the things we needed to do there. Like pay money to pray to a god or for good fortune. After that we walked down the streets where we all had matcha/ green tea icecream. We also bought our “tour guide” one as-well. After that we went through all of the mountain to the samurai street. Where we bought tokens to do games. First we shot corks at a wall with things on a shelf. We all failed miserably. Then we got metal throwing stars and threw them at a target. You get five shots and dad only got one on the target, everyone was telling him how bad he was, next the rest of us tried it and we didn’t get any anywhere near the target except mum who also got one on. We were all laughing so hard. Next we went and threw rubber throwing stars at a shelf with ninjas on it. We won multiple prizes such as a velociraptor badge which had the skeleton of a t- rex on it. And batons that you could hit people with. After that we went on all of the ninja courses that got all of the kids
Sweating a lot in the heat. Next we went to a river with barrels on it and rope from one end to the other. You had to balance in the barrels and pull yourself to the other side. Bryce made the
Mistake of choosing the smallest barrel and in the end fell in with his clothes on and was left cold for the rest of the day. After that we went on a slide while sitting on sleds with wheels, it was fun but didn’t go very fast. Then while on our walk to a bus
Stop it started to pour down with rain. Once we got to the bus stop we got on the bus and left once it was our stop, but on the way out we were shocked to see that the hour ride for the six of us cost $81. We got off and went onto a train that was packed full of people. Just as the doors were closing a man tried to get in but was squashed by the closing doors. In the end he got through and was stuck in a carriage packed full of people. Now we are back at our hotel waiting for the time to come for our dinner. Finally dinner has arrived and mum and dad got sake. The sake arrived and is in the biggest bottle we have ever seen. Before that we went into the onset as-well.
