Up at 6.15am. Dark and cloudy day. Breakfast in Richard’s and Karen’s modern B & B Carcassone unit around 7.15 am. Left after 8..30am. There was a couple of hours driving through very rural countryside on French “D” roads. We had to detour when a bridge was out in a village and the laneways to leave the village were very narrow. The road beyond was patched single width tar marginally better than dirt for a while. We eventally arrived at the first Carthar castle we planned to visit around 10.45am. The Chateau de Peyrepertuse ruin in the Languedoc-Roussillon
French region, was a Carthar Castle originally part of a Catalan county which joined the county of Barcelona in the early 12th century but was captured by the French in 1240. We walked around and explored the site and ate cashews and grapes for morning tea before leaving around 12.30pm. Drove to Chateau de Queribus in the Languedoc-Roussillon region which we skipped due to high wind and cloud obscuring everything on arrival. Lunch at a cafe/pub located in the Maury village in a wine region in the valley below.Läs mer
