    Barnard Castle to Woodside Lodge

    March 6, 2025 in England ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Stopped in Barnard Castle for a bit of a car charge, a bit of a shop in Lidl and a bite to eat and a wander.
Unfortunately the EV chargers at Lidl had been removed 😠so used one in the town centre, no biggie as we were planning to have a look around. Saw a horse and cart (or something like that) in the car park where we were charging.
The drive over the moors was amazing, so big, very impressive

  • Woodside Lodge

    March 6, 2025 in England ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Arrived just after 5pm, our host Gillian was getting washing in 😁. Showed us around the lodge, she’s really nice.
The lodge isn’t huge with a lounge, kitchen and dining room, bedroom and shower/toilet room, perfect for us and nicely done with lovely decor.
A big plus is the view from the lounge, south facing so will get plenty of sun, hopefully we’ll get some while we’re here.

  • Hexham

    Mar 7–10, 2025 in England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Rainy day so decided to visit Hexham. Had a little walk in the town and then visited the abbey, quite big and over 1300 years old

  • Kielder water

    March 8, 2025 in England ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Did the Bull Crag peninsula circular walk. Just over 10km but all on a very well maintained track by the reservoir and through woods. A very nice walk on a lovely sunny day
Sitting at a table at the end with some biscuits and visits from small birds.Read more

  • Corbridge

    March 8, 2025 in England ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

On the way back from Kielder we stopped off at Corbridge for a Chinese takeaway. Nice little town but the centre was lots of narrow roads and lots of cars. We parked just outside the centre in a free car park with a short walk over a narrow bridge into the town.Read more

  • Hadrians wall to Vindolanda fort

    March 9, 2025 in England ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Left the wall behind us and headed back to the car via Vindolanda Roman remains. More great scenery but getting very tired. Will need to come back another day to have a look around the remains.
Now sat in the Twice Brewed pub for a well earned meal, burger and fries for me and roast chicken for mum, can’t wait so hungry 😋Read more

  • Vindolanda Roman fort

    March 10, 2025 in England ⋅ 🌬 6 °C

Visiting the Roman fort Vindolanda today, interesting but the cold wind and light rain don’t help us appreciate it fully.
