  • Bude to Crackington Haven

    June 4, 2017 in England ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We left Bude after a nice English breakfast. The proprietors of Surf Haven, Peter and Caroline, saw us off at the front door. It was raining and windy when we left so we had our waterproofs on, but we quickly shed them at the first hill as the sun came out. Apart from one short squall it was nice weather most of the day. We stopped at Widemouth Bay for an early lunch. We had scones with clotted cream and jam. A really healthy choice but we don't ever get that at home. The hike today was around 17 km. For the rest of the way after lunch it was quite up and down. Some if the ascents and descents were pretty steep, but it was dry. Along the way we saw a lot of dramatic geology, with folded-over sedimentary layers. We saw horses and Val took some pictures of them. We finally arrived at Crackington Haven, which is tucked in a narrow cove. We ordered drinks and then checked into the hotel. After dinner we walked on the beach. It is cool and windy. Today is our 29th anniversary.Read more
