  • Grand Lake - Celina, OH

    July 2, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌫 24 °C

Entertaining dinner at Bella Italian Grill which is on the west side of Grand Lake. History lesson... the world's largest man made lake was finished in 1845, and dug out by hand by Irish and Germans who were paid 30 cents a day plus a jigger of whiskey.
Outside the restaurant was a circular overspill and some guys were fishing from the bridge using a circular net with weights round the edges, extremely efficient way as one guy was pulling 6-10 good sized fish out each throw !! Yep, the water was green !!

  • St Mary's State Fish Hatchery, OH

    July 3, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Monaco Travelers trip to the State Fish Hatchery in St Mary's. Really interesting film on how they collect the eggs by milking fish then fertilise them. Surprised at how much work goes into the process and most get released into state waters when they're around 1 1/2 inches long. They hatch walleye, yellow perch, catfish and saugeye, a hybrid walleye and sauger. In the holding tank below are blue catfish which they get as fry and release when they're around 6 inches.
Great lunch afterwards at La Carreta, a Mexican restaurant in Celina, check the chairs.

  • Mercer County Fairgrounds - Celina, OH

    July 9, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌫 26 °C

Last day at Monaco International rally, great brunch then we moved the coach to make sure we could get off the grass after Friday's thunderstorms, quite a few coaches have been stuck and needed a tow. We were fine and we dumped and moved to a gravel site where we filled up with fresh water as we're off to the FMCA convention in Indianapolis tomorrow in a caravan, around 30 coaches all heading off in convoy !!! The fairgrounds have a muscle car show with craft beer and BBQ this afternoon, which was fun to look round.Read more

Invited to join the Brew Tour by Sandra & Pierre from Ottawa. It was organised by FMCA Energised who used to be the Under Sixty club, a great group of people who like to be active and some have their young kids here with them.
Visited 4 local breweries and sampled some great beer and could purchase more by the glass or in a 'growler' to go.
A really fun afternoon with new friends. Our driver, Bob, when he found out we were from Scotland, introduced himself, 'Robert Burns Macauley' !!

Impressive building, now a museum where Former slave Dred Scott sued for freedom in 1846.

  • Gateway Arch - St Louis, MO

    July 21, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

Walked from the Old Courthouse to the North entrance of the Arch, boy was it hot, glad to get through security to the air conditioned visitor centre. The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot (192 m) monument. Clad in stainless steel and built in 1965 it is an inverted, weighted catenary arch, it is the world's tallest arch and tallest man-made structure in the Western Hemisphere. A tram takes us to the top, pods of 5 people squashed in and a 4 min ride. Views from the top are breathtaking, the city one side & the Mississippi River and our RV park behind the Casino Queen on the other.Read more

  • St Louis Zoo, Forest Park

    July 23, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Trip to Forest Park the venue for the 1904 World Fair and 1904 Olympics. It is known as the "Heart of St. Louis" and features a variety of free attractions, including the St. Louis Zoo, the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum, and the St. Louis Science Center. We did not get any further than the Zoo, which is recognized as a leading zoo in animal management, research, conservation, and education. Great day out and so much good work being done here to ensure species do not become extinct. Highlight was Moyo, a male black rhinoceros calf born May 17, 2017 weighing 130lbs, he now tips the scales at over 280lbs. Oh the butterfly house was amazing too, the sweet smell of the flowers and butterflies flying round us were awesome !!Read more

The Prairies seem endless, the biggest wheat & cornfields we've ever seen. Occasionally see small oil wells are pumping away.

  • Travelling West in Colorado

    July 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Travelling on I-70 we cross into Colorado, lots of open prairie with a scattering of small towns, most of which have huge grain silos. Had to take a photo as we passed Flagler as it reminded us of a recent purchase we made before our trip .... a rare bottle of Glen Flagler malt whisky.
Couple of trucks passed us loaded with humongous tyres.
Last photo is of US highway stretching out before us as we head towards Denver, CO.

  • Cherry Creek State Park - Aurora, CO

    July 27, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Fantastic State Park on the outskirts of Denver with plenty of space between sites and really surprised to get full hookup.
This is our second and last night here as we could only book for two days. Rode the bikes round the lake and saw pelicans, egrets, cormorants and mergansers. Surprised to see a praying mantis on the trail and spotted a couple of prairie dogs alongside the road (didn't get a photo, it was too hot, high 80s F)
Great sunset tonight looking towards the Rocky Mountains, the storm clouds are gathering.
