  • Tahquamenon Falls State Park MI

    September 20, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Stayed at Portage Campground within walking distance to the Lower Falls. First photo was taken near dusk.
Drove to the Upper Falls the next day on way out of the park & walked the trail to the edge of the falls. Colour of water is due to tannins that drain into the river from the cedar swamps. Reminds us of the cold tea colour of some Scottish lochs.Read more

  • Baraga State Park MI

    September 23, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Google Baraga State Park & the photo is not of the park. So we were a bit disappointed to have a busy road between us & the lake. Did some investigating..... the photo is of Ojibwa campground a few miles round the bay, so only stayed 1 night & moved on. Trees or should I say leaves are starting to change colour.Read more

  • Ojibwa Campground - Baraga MI

    September 23, 2016 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

Found the campground we've been dreaming about on the shore of Lake Superior & it's almost empty. It is owned by the Native American Ojibwa tribe. Had the pick of sites, number 47 called to us !!! surrounded by lakeshore. Stew's hunter gatherer instinct has kicked in, gathering firewood from empty sites. Dinner experiment worked a treat, hot smoked salmon over a campfire, sweet potato roasted in the campfire with cilantro lime mayo... Delicious with a glass of wine !!!Read more

Had to visit 'On the Road Again' Willie Nelson's place. Lots of memorabilia from old country stars. Guitar was played by Willie at his Grand Ole Opry debut 23rd Nov 1963. Furniture was confiscated by IRS for unpaid taxes, background are outfits worn by some of Willie's friends, one is Dolly Parton. Wall of gold & platinum records & his tour bus Honeysuckle Rose. • Ryman Auditorium - Nashville TN

    October 7, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Originally built as the Union Gospel Tabernacle by Thomas Ryman for the revivalist Sam Jones & was renamed after Ryman's death. It is best known as the home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. It fell into disrepair & was going to be demolished, but after being renovated shows started again in 1994 & continue today. We toured the Ryman and it is a special place, with great atmosphere, especially when you think about all the greats who performed here. Minnie Pearl, Roy Acuff, Hank Williams, Dolly to name but a few.Read more

  • Tootsie's Orchid Lounge - Nashville TN

    October 7, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

A back alley separates this honky-tonk bar from the Ryman & artists would come here to hang out during & after performances. Owner 'Tootsie' Bess was well-known for her generosity toward struggling musicians such as Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson & many more. According to tradition, a painter mistakenly painted the exterior orchid purple & that's how it has stayed. This place has 3 floors & was mobbed all day !!Read more

  • Grand Ole Opry - Nashville TN

    October 8, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

08:30 given our backstage passes for the tour, brilliant got to see the artists entrance, security check in, mailboxes full of fan mail, each member has one. The members board has the names of past & present artists who have been invited by the show's management to join, based on their commitment to country music, the fans & the Opry itself. We toured the 18 dressing rooms & walked onto the Opry stage from the wings. The 'Circle' has not been broken as a circle of the original Ryman stage has been placed here. History of the Opry & the artists that have performed here is overwhelming. This weekend the Opry is celebrating 91 years & we were lucky to get a package deal that included The Ryman & Opry Backstage tours plus picnic lunch, afternoon concert (Crystal Gayle) & the evening Opry Show.Read more
