    October 14, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Did a tour to St Marks Square which was not really a tour but took us from Fusina where our ship docked into Venice so we could see where the Basilica & the palace were which we would like to visit tomorrow. Stayed in Venice for the afternoon & found a tour through Venice & a gondola ride before returning to the ship on the shuttle boatRead more

  • 14th October Venice

    October 15, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Slow start this morning in fact nearly missed breakfast. Took the ships shuttle boat into Venice & got skip the line tickets for St Marks Basilica which was stunning then had time for a coffee & a wander around especially looking at all the beautiful blown glass work made in the area. Joined a tour of Doge's Palace which was outstanding before fighting the crowds back to the shuttle boat for the ship.Read more

  • 15th October Venice

    October 15, 2024 in Italy ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Very quiet day today, thought we could walk to the shops in Fusina where the ship is docked but apparently not. Had lots of issues from home to deal with today so spent the morning catching up & was delivered a bottle of wine in our room for continuing to cruise with Viking. Excellent timing as that was just what we planned to go shopping for this morning - so worked out well. Lunch & some time in the spa filled in the afternoon. Jeff had a hair cut & we went to dinner at Manfredi's the Italian specialty restaurant which was outstanding.Read more

  • 16th October Split

    October 16, 2024 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Did a walking tour of Split today & went through the castle & it's cellars. Also went down the smallest street in Split which is only 70cm wide - one way traffic only. Touch the toe of the statue that will bring us good luck for the next 10 years. Relaxed on the ship for the rest of the dayRead more

  • 17th October Dubrovnik

    October 17, 2024 in Croatia ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Did a tour of quaint towns where we stopped at Cavtat and wandered along the waterfront & climbed the steps to the back streets to wander along. Went onto Ljuta & saw the water mills that ground the wheat & beat the yarn for making clothes & blankets. Had some snacks & average wine but really enjoyed there walnut brandy so I had to buy some as it is (apparently) good for the stomach - best medicine I have tried 😋. In the afternoon we did a walking tour of Dubrovnik which is such a lovely place.Read more

  • 18th October Kotor Montenegro

    October 18, 2024 in Montenegro ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Did a walking tour of the town today. It is an absolutely stunning place with bright beautiful shops, full of lovely things & lovely little streets. With the amazing rugged mountains behind & the town walls up the mountain. How did they make these things? A few showers today but not bad, so after having a look around we left the city & our ship was right at the city wall. Another lovely dinner & show.Read more

  • 20th October Katakolon (Olympia)

    October 21, 2024, Ionian Sea ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Didn't do any tours today as we had covered Olympia when here before so just waffles for breakfast, then went for a walk around the town. There wasn't alot open as it is the end of season so came back to the ship for coffee & a spa. The crew at the end of each cruise have welcomed people back on board for the last time with a party atmosphere of singing & clapping so this time we watched from our deck & we set sail for Athens at 2pm. Had to pack this afternoon for bags to be out by 10pm - a job I was very reluctant to do. Enjoyed a final dinner & listened to a great guitarist in the lounge before bed.Read more

  • 21st October Thessaloniki

    October 21, 2024 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Up really early this morning & said goodbye to our home for the last 3 weeks. Had a very long drive to the airport in peak traffic & flight delayed for 20 minutes. After sqeezing into a tiny lift with 2 suitcases we found our somewhat small hotel room, I had to put Jeff on the balcony while I sorted out the suitcases & you need to sit on the toilet on an angle so as not to hit your head on the basin when putting the paper in the bin. Once settled in all is fine. We went for a walk & found the nice waterfront & got our bearings & a few supplies. Found a lovely (& cheap) restaurant across the road & enjoyed a quiet dinner.Read more

  • 22nd October Thessaloniki

    October 22, 2024 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

Had a lazy morning with a sleep in & then caught up on some admin & washing before wandering to the waterfront where we stopped for lunch I had a fabulous salad but could have fed a family of 4 with it. Had a look at the massive markets until we got lost, so just headed for the water & back to the square. Walked a couple of kms to the white tower & sat people watching for a while until it was time for our booking at the Skyline Cafe so had drinks & nibbles while watching the sunset & revolving around the skyline of Thessaloniki.Read more

  • 24th October Thessaloniki

    October 24, 2024 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Jeff has had yet another cold & cough & this time he seems to be passing it on to me. Had a walking tour this morning & there was just 3 of us in the group so was quite nice. It appears that on Saturday it is a holiday to celebrate St Dimitrios (Patron of Thessaloniki) apparently he can heal all that ails you, so let's see what happens to our colds. Hopefully it won't interfere with getting to the airport with aĺl the parades. We had a leisurely walk along the waterfront to our meeting point then had a fascinating walk through the city learning the history. Some of the history we had learnt in Greece previously & in Spain followed through to Thessaloniki so really expanded on what we have already learnt. After the tour we had a coffee with the other guy on the tour which was interesting. Returned to the hotel to get some washing out in the sun & had a quiet afternoon to rest up a bit.Read more

  • 25th October Thessaloniki

    October 25, 2024 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

Up early again for a tour to Pozar Thermal Pools & Edessa. Was about 1hr 45mins from Thessaloniki then we had a couple of hours to enjoy the pools & hopefully cure all as feeling pretty average today with a cold. After the pools we stopped in a pretty quiet town for lunch & then onto Edessa Waterfalls, so was quite a relaxing day. Got a takeaway pizza & finished our wine as couldn't be bothered going outRead more

  • 26th October Dubai

    October 26, 2024 in Greece ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Had to pack this morning which was exhausting as full up with a cold. Jeff had to sit on the balcony to make room for the suitcases to come out. Fortunately we had till 11am before leaving our room so had plenty of time. Made it to Dubai about 11.45pm & transferred to our hotel ( think the lift was larger than our room in Thessaloniki). The hotel sent our luggage to the wrong room so by the time we got it & into bed it was about 3am so the do not disturb sign went on the door.Read more

  • 28th October Dubai

    October 28, 2024 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ 🌙 30 °C

We had a full day private tour of Dubai today, we saw both the old & new sides of the city. Drove around the Palm Jumeirah where all the rich & famous are, stopped at the Museum of the Future. We had tickets to the Dubai Frame & Jeff even walked on the glass floor 50 floors in the air. Went to Burj Khalifa to the 125th floor for amazing views & horrendous crowds. Our guide then took us through the old town to see how the houses were made especially with no air conditioning & then across the creek to the spice & gold souks stopping to sample the date chocolates & the camel milk tea. All the while we had a fantastic insight into how Dubai has evolved in just 30 years including the life for the people both immigrants & the original citizens of the country, & the status symbols of cars & number plates. Was really a fantastic day. Got back to the hotel in time to change & get a taxi to The Tap House at the Dubai Mall where we had dinner reservations sitting out on the terrace to watch the fountain show which was outstanding & we were able to watch 3 shows including the light show on the Burj Khalifa before heading back to the hotel.Read more

  • 31st October Home

    October 31, 2024 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ 🌙 28 °C

Was awakened in the early hours by our cameras going off to see some strange lady going into our house with cleaning products. Sarah had arranged for her cleaning lady to clean our house before we got home. Had to get up early anyway as we had a 6.30am transfer to the airport. Had a real problem going through immigration as I went through the gate first & Jeff got rejected but I couldn't get back to him. Ended up having to go on & get a security guy to bring him through as he wasn't coping on his own. Finally made it to a coffee & we both settled down before boarding. Flying premium economy so have a few extras to make the long journey a little easier.Read more
