08.05; ich weiß gar nicht wo was wie

    May 8, 2016 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

I did the tongariro crossing yesterday (and actually walked simply into mordor).
Isi and me also decided to try to go up mt Ngauruhoe. Try. After all, we had to go and destroy that ring.
At first there was a path, snaking its way onto the mountainside. This is easy, we foolishly thought and followed it, thinking we'd be just fine. Hah. Hah. Hah.
Barely ten minutes later the path shriveled up to nothing, the incline was getting progressively steeper (~45° slope) and the scree getting steadily slipperier. So many times we fell to our knees, and began to climb on our fours as we slowly crawled upward. For 2 hours , we crawled and slid and huffed and puffed, hauling ourselves over sharp and craggy rocks, trying to find footholds and clinging to their narrow edges.
People say that the closer you are to death the more alive you feel, i dont know how close to death we were (it felt really close) but oh god, i felt more alive than ever before and the adrenaline kept me going up and up. Being on top the valley trails looked like needle thin threads so far below us as the wind whistled around the face of the volcano. Despite questioning our decision multiple times on the way up due to the difficulty of the climb, the views at the top were definitely worth the effort. After feeling very accomplished, we made the long and slippery trek down. Bringing down and avalanche of volcanic Mountain with us as we descended slipping and sliding down on our asses,
we shakily stepped on firm ground and thanked god that we made it out alive.
After doing this hike i truly understand how much sam is the real hero carrying frodos bitch ass up that slope and i can't believe that we climbed a fucking volcanoe.
