The Queen Day 11 Are we there yet?

The sea has roughed up a bit as we get out of bed this morning. Not too bad though. The days at sea are flying by. One more day then Teneriffe.

Last day today before stops in Teneriffe and Madeira

Woke this morning as the ship slid into Teneriffe harbour. Great view out our window to the island.
Shuttled off to Santa Cruz about 9:30.
Walked into the town then decided to get a local bus over toBaca lagi
The Queen Day 14 Madeira

Woke up this morning to see the lights of outlying islands as we approached Madeira.
Dolphins escorted us into Funchal Harbour as the sun rose. The island looked great so we soon had brekky and madeBaca lagi
The Queen Day 15 At Sea

Woke to a grey sky and sea, must be getting close to the UK.
After breakfast joined a tour of the kitchens, then on to a talk in the theatre. Woman who rowed the Atlantic with her son in 1997.Baca lagi
The Queen Day 16 At Sea

Skies still grey, sea grey but not too rough. Did onboard immigration clearance before brekky.
Went to end of voyage sales where the guests scramble after goods reduced to something approaching normalBaca lagi
The Queen Day 17 At Sea

Our last day at sea was a quiet one. The Bay Of Biscay was kind to us though it was pretty cold out.The highlight of the day was the final show at night with Kev Orkian and the 4 SeasonsBaca lagi
Southampton to Winchester

The ship docked this morning at 6 am in Southampton. The end of our sea voyage. Disembarkation was leisurely and we were off the ship about 10 am.

Winchester

We woke to a clear but cold day in Winchester. After a juice to get us going in the morning we took off for a walk out through the water meadows to the St John's Cross Hospital about a mile away. ABaca lagi
Winchester to Heathrow

After a nice sleep in we packed our bags. Leaving them at the b&b we went for a walk up to St Giles hill for a view over Winchester. Picked up our bags about 1pm and went off to catch the bus toBaca lagi
Trip to Bilbao

Up this morning at 5:30 to catch the flight to Bilbao. Good flight except for a few bumps coming in to Bilbao. Long queue to pick up the car but eventually got the keys to a Mercedes A200. Nice carBaca lagi
A Day in Bilbao

Highlight of the day was getting a haircut for 11 euros (as opposed to the ridiculous prices we pay at home) And quite a nice cut too considering she couldn't speak English and me no Spanish. HerBaca lagi
Drive to Naves

Leaving Bilbao was nerveracking. When we finally left the perimeters though the scenery was dramatic, green, mountainous and lovely. We decided to head inland and then rejoin the coastal area aroundBaca lagi
Back to Santillana del Mar

After our experience at Naves we decided to look for somewhere we could have a rest and get some decent food. We found a nice hotel in a place called Santillana del Mar which is back towardsBaca lagi
Santanilla del Mar

Our day in Santillana began with breakfast at the hotel which was OK without being great. Afterwards we went into the town and had a look at the 12th century church around which the town was built.Baca lagi
Drive to Farmstay

Longish drive today to the farm stay. Arrived in the late afternoon after traffic jambs getting through Bilbao. Farmstay was exquisite, perched high on the hills overlooking the valley. Hosts spokeBaca lagi
A good day out that went bad

After a leisurely breakfast we went exploring. Our first stop was to the Oma forest where an artist has painted the trunks of trees in a grove.

Off to Bilbao and Madrid

A nice day for a drive..
First to Bilbao airport to change the car. About an hour to get there. Avis were very good and gave us another Merc the same as the one we had but brand new with only 9 km onBaca lagi
Madrid and the Embassy

Up early to get to the embassy as early as possible. Nice walk of about 15 minutes up the road. Embassy is on 24th floor off an office tower. Security was extreme even to get into the lobby of theBaca lagi
Madrid and the Embassy day 2

We had to wait until 3pm to pick up our emergency passports so this meant staying another night in Madrid. Went to reception to extend the stay only to be told the price of the room had gone fron 79Baca lagi
Back to San Sebastian

Today we have our big drive up to San Sebastian to meet up with Pat. After a muesli breakfast in our room we checked out of the hotel and headed off in the car. After a couple of times around theBaca lagi
San Sebastian Day 1

A bit slow getting going this morning, but after breakfast in the hotel we headed off in the car to explore the coast. Took the coastal route west from the hotel along a narrow and twisty road alongBaca lagi

Slow start again but finally headed off into the countryside in the car for some exploring. First visited a cider museum where we learnt all about the local cider history and industry. ModeratelyBaca lagi

Big storm overnight with lots of thunder and lightning (all very frightening!!) We started the day by taking the car back to Avis. Just before we left the hotel, a bus slipped off the wet roads justBaca lagi
San Sebastian Day 4 Trip to Pasaia

With no car now, we decided to take a day trip to Pasaia in the bus. This is another little inlet hamlet about 6 kilometres from SS. The day started a bit drizzly and stayed much the same all day. AsBaca lagi
