  • The Journey Begins

    April 8, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Just arrived at Orlando airport, although I travel frequently this trip is going to be special. Leaving with my sisters (Renee and Nicole) to meet up with another sister (Lise) in Newark, NJ. As I sit here I am thankful to my sister Renee and brother Rick for all their insight and coaching, I feel ready! Much love to Paul for his support and encouragement! While most people have been looking forward to the solar eclipse today, I have been excitedly anticipating this adventure.Read more

  • Welcome to Portugal!

    April 9, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We arrive in Porto, Portugal today. Made it to our hotel, dropped off our packs and headed out to explore. Porto is a beautiful city and will always be special as our starting point for our first Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of Saint James. We purchased our Credential de Compostela and our Pilgrim Shell. The scallop shell is symbol of this pilgrimage.Read more

  • Sea and Sunshine

    April 10, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We woke up to a beautiful sunny day. Morning coffee in our room and then off to start our 17+ mile walk. Day one of training on how to spot the yellow arrows which will guide our way to Santiago de Compostela. We enjoyed the sunshine and the sound of the sea as we walked today. Taking our boots off midday while we ate our picnic lunch purchased from a local grocery. We like so many pilgrims before, us left our footprints on the sand and the boardwalks. Arriving in Vila do Conde, just in time to visit the church and attend the rosary service. Sharing a 4 person room tonight with my sisters. Rest before another day on the Camino.Read more

  • Hitting My Stride

    April 11, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Starting to learn how to become “one with the pack”. We most spent the day walking along the beach on boardwalks and sand. So grateful my sister Renee is here to share her experience and provide coaching. We turned inland for a bit and got a change of scenery as we passed soccer fields and a golf course next to the ocean. Definitely feel fatigued by the end of the day, but keep walking forward. Luckily, I won the sister room lottery and got to sleep in the private room.Read more

  • Reality Sets in-Climbing Higher

    April 12, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

What a tough day! I think I underestimated how difficult some days would be. The terrain goes from pavement to boardwalk then cobblestone and forest with rocks and tree roots. It was mostly uphill- patience was my key word. Hiking 🥾 in these conditions makes travel take much longer. We are walking 8-12 hours a day. The scenery is beautiful and the pilgrims are all so friendly. Someone asked me if a was enjoying the Camino…..I just stared and didn’t have a response. Mom always said if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all! “Keep on Trekking”.Read more

  • Welcome to Spain

    April 16, 2024 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

After a quick breakfast we loaded our packs in a taxi and flew to the dock. We boarded a small motor boat and speeded across the water over to Spain 🇪🇸. We stayed in the most charming Bed and Breakfast. We were able to do some much needed laundry. We ate dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and were treated to a beautiful sunset. We enjoyed scallops, shrimp, garlic aoili potatoes with some red wine. Sweet dreams tonight!Read more

  • Leaving Santiago

    April 23, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

After doing some laundry and having a wonderful shower, my sister Renee and I did the rooftop tour of Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. We took the narrow staircase up to the rooftop. The stairs were a breeze after walking the Camino. The views were spectacular and I enjoyed seeing the other Pilgrims who completed their Camino basking in the sun and laying against their backpack in the courtyard. We literally walked on the shingles and tried not to get blown off the roof. It was so beautiful to look out over Santiago. We rented a car and are heading to Fatima. The adventures continue…..Read more
