Céline Dion Saves the Titanic

Just a short walk from The Queen’s Head stands the Criterion Theatre, home to one of London’s most delightfully ridiculous musicals.

Titanique.

When I bought the ticket earlier that day, I honestly had no idea what I was walking into.

All I knew was that it somehow combined Titanic with the music of Céline Dion.

That alone sounded wonderfully absurd.

The premise?

Céline herself retells the story of the Titanic… from her perspective.

Yes, it’s every bit as over-the-top as it sounds.

And it is absolutely brilliant.

The show constantly switches between heartfelt ballads, outrageous comedy and complete chaos, all while somehow managing to honour—and lovingly poke fun at—the famous film.

The cast was phenomenal, the audience was laughing throughout the performance, and every time I thought the show couldn’t possibly become any more ridiculous…

…it did.

In the best possible way.

I left the theatre with a huge smile on my face.

Sometimes the best travel experiences are the ones you never planned for.

If Avenue Q had been playing that evening, I never would have discovered Titanique.
