    The Flight → Munich

    1. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

A smooth start to the trip from Vancouver, kicking things off in style at the SkyTeam Lounge with snacks and a glass of bubbles. The flight to Munich was surprisingly comfortable (extra legroom = game changer for long legs). Arrival couldn’t have been easier — quick immigration, luggage in hand, and straight to picking up a hybrid SUV that’s ready for the road trip ahead.Læs mere

  • Herkomer Café

    1. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

A much-needed coffee stop halfway through the drive — and what a spot to land. Herkomer Café sits right next to the iconic Mutterturm, making it one of the most scenic caffeine breaks you could ask for. Strong cappuccino, very chatty staff, and exactly the energy boost needed to push through the jet lag.Læs mere

  • Landsberg am Lech Walk

    1. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Landsberg am Lech turned out to be an absolute surprise highlight. The Lech river cuts dramatically through town, with the weir creating a stunning foreground to the colorful old houses. Wandering through historic gates toward the main square, past the old town hall and the Marienbrunnen, felt like stepping into a postcard. These unexpected small towns are often the best discoveries.Læs mere

  • Oberried im Allgäu Arrival

    1. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Arriving in Oberried im Allgäu felt like entering a completely different pace of life. Julia and Thomas’ place sits high up with sweeping Alpine views, surrounded by the sound of cowbells and total calm. A home-cooked meal, a glass of wine, and long catch-up conversations — the perfect way to end a long travel day.Læs mere

  • Kempten Farmer’s Market

    2. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

A morning trip into Kempten led straight to the local farmer’s market — the perfect place to stock up for dinner. Set against the backdrop of the cathedral, the whole square was buzzing with life: fresh produce, food stalls, and people enjoying wine and beer in the sun.
We came for groceries and left with armfuls of Spargel (Germany’s beloved “white gold”), plus a completely unplanned — but absolutely delicious — watermelon thanks to a very persuasive vendor. Coffee stop included, of course, with a cappuccino from Purschwarz Coffee Roasters right at the market.

  • Purschwarz Roastery, Wiggensbach

    2. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

From Kempten, we headed to Wiggensbach — a name that really does sound like it belongs in a Harry Potter book — to visit the Purschwarz Coffee Roasters roastery.
Tucked away in an industrial area, the space is sleek, modern, and true to its name: beautifully minimal and black. After a great chat with the team, we picked up some beans to take home and enjoyed another excellent cappuccino in the sunshine. A hidden gem for coffee lovers in the Allgäu.Læs mere

  • Oberried – Food Heaven

    2. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Back in Oberried, the day turned into a full-on food celebration. Julia’s dad arrived with Argentinian beef steaks, which paired perfectly with the fresh market haul: Spargel, potatoes, sauce hollandaise, fresh salad, and a crisp glass of white wine.
After an already incredible breakfast of local cheeses and meats, this felt like the ultimate Allgäu food experience. Safe to say: I’m being very well taken care of here.

  • Aussichtspunkt Iberger Kugel

    3. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

A quiet Sunday called for a short hike up to the Aussichtspunkt Iberger Kugel — and the views did not disappoint. Rolling green hills, fresh Alpine air, and total stillness.
At the top, I brewed a cup of the coffee from Purschwarz Coffee Roasters — cold brew style. Refreshing, smooth, and exactly what you want after a hike in the sun. A proper Brews & Views moment.Læs mere

  • Oberried – Sunday Mode

    3. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Back in Oberried im Allgäu, Sunday delivered exactly what it should: great food and even better company. More time to catch up with Julia, paired with another incredible meal — chicken grilled over beech logs, green asparagus salad, and parsley potatoes.

As the evening settled in, the light suddenly shifted into a surreal, almost hazy glow. Looking out the window revealed the reason: massive clouds of pollen rising from the surrounding forests and meadows, lifted into the air by a light breeze. Absolutely stunning to watch — though slightly terrifying if you’re dealing with allergies.

Also, small plot twist of the day: turns out the “hybrid” rental hadn’t been charging its battery… until now. Problem solved — and suddenly the road trip just got a bit more efficient.

  • Basoni Kaffeerösterei

    4. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Finally made it to Basoni Kaffeerösterei — a spot that’s been around since 1998 but somehow never made it onto my itinerary until now.
Super welcoming team and a great chat about their coffees led me to pick up a bag from Ethiopia. The cappuccino was served from their original Ape 50 coffee cart — the very setup that started the whole roastery back in the day. A place with history and heart.Læs mere

  • Burgkaffee Roastery

    4. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Next stop: Burgkaffee — a roaster that’s been on my list for a while.
The space is still finding its rhythm: located in an industrial area, a bit rough around the edges, with construction noise and empty shelves. But you can already see the vision — sleek design, coffee bar, and even space for events.
Picked up a bag called Sanfte Prinzessin (fitting, given the name “castle coffee”). Definitely a spot to revisit in a few years once everything has settled.

Hidden between forests and flower-filled meadows, Burgruine Alttruchburg feels like something out of a fairytale.

  • Reutlingen Walk

    4. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Arriving in Reutlingen after a scenic drive through the Oberallgäu, I headed straight out to explore the old town.
Highlights included the famous Spreuerhofstraße — officially the narrowest street in the world at just 31 cm wide — along with Marienkirche, Maximilianbrunnen, and plenty of beautiful timber-framed houses.
One unexpected standout: the Friedrich-List-Gymnasium, a stunning 16th-century building. Imagine going to school in a place like that.

  • Arabica Reutlingen

    5. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Arabica had a completely different vibe — busy, lively, and full of character.
Tables packed outside, people chatting under the awning, and inside a mix of chocolates and old-school coffee storage containers. A cozy, long-standing spot. Picked up two bags of beans and enjoyed a solid cappuccino.Læs mere

  • Muckefuck Coffee

    7. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Final coffee stop before leaving the Allgäu: Muckefuck Kaffeerösterei in Marktoberdorf.
Parking in town was absolute chaos, but the stop was worth it. Great coffee, delicious pastries, and super knowledgeable staff. Bonus points for serving takeaway coffee in mason jars - a fun touch and very fitting for the vibe of the place.Læs mere

  • Dinzler Coffee Roastery

    7. maj, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

After picking up Sanjay at Munich Airport, we hit the road toward Slovenia and stopped at Dinzler Kaffeerösterei for lunch.
What started as a quick food stop turned into a full coffee experience: show roastery, massive bean selection, café, restaurant… the whole thing is huge. Naturally, a few more bags of beans came along for the trip home.Læs mere

  • Hotel Park Bled

    7.–10. maj, Slovenien ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

After hours of driving through heavy rain, wind, and miserable weather, we finally crossed into Slovenia and arrived in Bled.

  • Old Bled Cellar

    7. maj, Slovenien ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Tonight delivered one of those classic travel stories where a mistake somehow turns into the perfect evening.

My mom had asked me to make a reservation at the restaurant of her hotel, but somewhere between translations and research I mixed up Old Bled Cellar and Old Bled House. We arrived, sat down, and only after 15 minutes did I suddenly wonder: “Wait… where exactly are the hotel rooms here?”

Turns out: wrong restaurant. Meanwhile, my mom was waiting at the other location. Thankfully, she came over — and honestly, the mix-up could not have worked out better.

As she arrived, the clouds opened up and the sunset exploded over the lake, with Bled Castle glowing above the water. Incredible food, stunning scenery, and a reminder that travel mistakes sometimes lead to the best memories.

  • Lake Bled Morning Walk

    8. maj, Slovenien ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

    6:30am alarm. Worth it.

Mom, Kinga, and I started with the idea of doing a short lakeside walk around Lake Bled… and somehow ended up walking the entire loop before breakfast. The morning light over the lake was incredible: blue skies, calm water, fresh air, and the mountains slowly lighting up in the sun.

On the far side of the lake, I brewed coffee for us with one of the best backdrops imaginable. A proper Brews & Views moment.

  • Blejski Otok & the Pletna Boat

    8. maj, Slovenien ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

After breakfast, Sanjay and I headed back to the lake planning to rent a rowing boat to Blejski Otok. But just as we arrived, one of the traditional Pletna Boats was about to depart — so plans changed immediately.

Watching the rower guide the boat across the lake in the traditional way was such a peaceful experience. Once on the island, we explored the trails and visited the famous church before returning to shore.

  • Bled Castle

    8. maj, Slovenien ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

    Next stop: Bled Castle.
The final approach on foot through the old gate really sets the mood. The entrance fee is definitely on the higher side, but honestly — the views alone make it worthwhile. Add in the history of the castle and the dramatic setting above the lake, and it becomes one of those places that fully lives up to the hype.Læs mere

  • Vintgar Gorge

    8. maj, Slovenien ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Vintgar Gorge is absolutely stunning… but also one of the most confusing visitor experiences I’ve had in a while 😄

We followed the GPS to a parking lot only to discover we needed tickets and a shuttle. Then we arrived at the gorge itself and found plenty of cars parked there anyway. Once inside, the canyon and turquoise water were breathtaking — completely worth the trip.

The only challenge: the trail descriptions could really use some clarification. The “easy meadow return walk” starts with a steep uphill climb that definitely caught us off guard. Still, despite the logistical confusion and sore legs, the gorge itself was incredible.
